Chapter 1 - The Aelorian Encyclopedia 1

Aeloria is the only known planet, floating in a vast cosmic void. There are no stars, no meteorites—just the solitary Sun and Moon, which orbit the planet.

This world was conceived by the god of magic, Aelor, who created the Aelor language for humanity.

However, his work was left unfinished, as the god vanished from existence.

Some believe he ventured into the chaos beyond the void, while others hold that he sealed Aeloria to protect it from malevolent beings whose knowledge could shatter the human mind.

Magic and Power

In Aeloria, magic is the fundamental force that governs life. It is divided into two main categories:

Elemental Magic

Elemental magic is based on knowledge, imagination, and the ancient Aelor language. Anyone can learn it, but mastery of its 10 tiers (Tier 1 to Tier 10) depends on the user's intellect.

Legendary: Is achieved through the study, comprehension, and analysis of the world and its elements.

Divine Magic

Divine magic is a gift from the gods, granted to those who show deep faith and reverence. Humans must choose a deity to receive their power, which comes with its own challenges and benefits. However, it is rumored that this power binds followers to their gods, preventing them from achieving godhood themselves.

Divine Power: Those who follow a deity gain unique abilities, but the path to becoming a god is nearly impossible.

Legendary Magic: The next level after Tier 10. It is believed that the few who reach it can become something more, though not necessarily gods.

The Deities of Aeloria

Three known gods interact with humanity, each offering a path of magic and faith.

The Goddess of the Moon

The goddess of knowledge, worshiped mainly by demons due to their longevity, which allows them to accumulate vast knowledge over 1,000 years.

Powers: Her spells are strongest at night. They enable illusions, attacks, and defenses.

Benefits: Praying to her grants a temporary boost to intelligence and wisdom.

Followers: Scholars, alchemists, engineers, blacksmiths, and all who seek knowledge.

The Goddess of the Sun

The goddess of fire and resilience, who achieved divinity after thousands of years of struggle with fire. She detests pyromaniacs.

Powers: Her magic grants strength and increased resistance to the elements (fire, ice, lightning).

Benefits: Praying to her provides a temporary elemental resistance buff lasting 15 to 30 minutes.

Followers: Adventurers, beast hunters, and those who seek danger.

The Goddess of Light

The creator of divine magic. Her magic is pure and sanctified, designed to help humanity fight against evil. She established a standard of morality based on karma.

Powers: Her magic allows for healing, exorcisms, and the creation of divine shields and weapons that affect beings with negative karma. Followers can also see the aura of others' karma.

Benefits: The goddess promises immortality in her realm to those who reach the legendary magic tier, but this comes with a vow of eternal service.

Followers: People with kindness in their hearts who seek to help others.

Consequences of Divine Magic

Praying to the gods in Aeloria isn't just an act of faith; it has direct effects on the user, which vary depending on the deity, these effects aren't necessarily punishments, but the price of using power that isn't inherent to a human being.

The Goddess of the Moon: Praying to the Goddess of the Moon, which focuses on intelligence and wisdom, can leave her followers feeling isolated and disconnected. Although their minds expand to understand the vast and cold information of the cosmos, their mortal intellect struggles to process it. This can cause them to feel distant from the feelings and concerns of others, making them more reserved and detached. It isn't a form of insanity, but a type of emotional detachment that comes from overwhelming knowledge.

The Goddess of the Sun: Her magic, which grants great resilience, has the side effect of leaving spiritual scars. Every time an adventurer prays and uses her blessing to resist an attack, part of their vitality is consumed by the goddess's flames. These scars aren't physical. Instead, they manifest as a persistent feeling of exhaustion and a phantom pain, reminding the user that their strength comes at a personal cost.

The Goddess of Light: The Goddess of Light's magic is pure, but it's also purifying in an absolute sense. Her power is so clean that when used to heal or fight evil, it purges more than just negative karma. The user is forced to confront their own weaknesses and painful memories in a process of self-purification. This can be an emotionally painful experience, as the user must sacrifice their insecurities and personal desires for the greater good.

In short, praying in Aeloria is never free. Each divine blessing comes with a personal sacrifice that molds the user in a profound way, not just physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. Choosing a goddess is a commitment not only of faith, but also to accept the high price their power demands.

The Establishment of the Karma Standard

The Goddess of Light, in her divine wisdom, observed the moral chaos of early humanity. She saw a world where the lines between good and evil were blurred. A compassionate healer might also lie, and a ruthless warrior might protect their village. Humanity was a constant swirl of light and shadow, and she realized that for her pure magic to be truly effective, it needed a clear, objective guide.

She chose not to judge, but to define. Drawing upon her own pure essence, she created a new system, a moral compass that would manifest as an aura around every soul. This was the Karma Standard, her vision of an ideal humanity made visible.

Karma: The Standard of Morality

Karma is the reflection of a being's soul, visible to the followers of the Goddess of Light. It is based on intentional actions, whether causing harm or helping others.

Positive Karma (White and Gold Tones)

Gray Karma: Normal, with life's ups and downs.

Gray with light white tones: Has saved 10 to 100 lives.

White Karma: Has saved 100 to 1,000 lives.

White with gold tones: Recognized as a sage or semi-hero. Has saved 1,000 to 10,000 lives.

Gold-White Karma: A hero throughout history, blessed with the longevity of demons. Has saved more than 100,000 lives.

Gold Karma: Non-human beings or gods who have transcended humanity.

Negative Karma (Red and Black Tones)

Red Karma: Has killed 10 to 100 conscious beings for pleasure.

Dark Red Karma: Has killed 100 to 1,000 conscious beings. They are considered cruel but still have a tiny trace of goodness.

Red with black: Has killed 1,000 to 10,000 conscious beings. They despise life and have no goodness left.

Black Karma: Has killed over 100,000 conscious beings. These are beings of pure evil.

Society and Races

Unlike other worlds, there is no significant racial discrimination between demons and humans in Aeloria. Both races coexist amicably, and evil is considered a matter of individual actions and karma, not of racial heritage. A demon can be just as good as a human, and vice versa, depending on their upbringing and choices.
