Chapter 2 - The Dutiful and The Lazy

A stunning woman sat behind a desk, scrolling through her phone. With white hair, emerald eyes, and a figure that could make men lose their minds, she was truly a sight to behold. A soft smile curled her lips as she scrolled, enhancing her beauty even further.

The door to her office burst open, revealing a panting woman. She, too, was beautiful—but next to the woman behind the desk, she seemed almost plain. She wore a sharp black suit, white trousers, and had long red hair that flowed to her hips. Her red eyes burned with urgency.

"What have I told you about knocking, Nisha?" the woman behind the desk said. Her voice was soft—soothing, melodic. A voice people longed to hear again once they'd heard it once.

"There's... an emergency. Zephyr City has been... destroyed, Lady Vex," Nisha said, still breathless.

Vex froze. Her smile faded. Her face went cold.

She stood from behind the desk and walked swiftly toward the door, Nisha falling in step beside her. Vex wore a snow-white sundress that hugged her body, elevating her beauty to something nearly divine.

"How do you know this?" she asked, approaching the elevator.

"Ross sent an Echo. He's requesting help. Says Paragon Quinn has it engaged but is being overwhelmed. He also said he'll provide support," Nisha reported quickly. Her hands trembled and her voice cracked slightly when she spoke of Quinn.

"What!?" Vex snapped, her voice sharp now. "He'll die. He doesn't stand a chance against something that can overwhelm Quinn."

The elevator stopped with a chime, opening to reveal a massive hall. The guild members inside paused, murmuring excitedly as Vex stepped out. Whispers followed her like shadows.

"Contact Zero's Guild," she ordered. "Tell them to deploy at least three Paragons. Also notify their Guild Master. I'm going to Zephyr City."

She exited the building.

Outside, the scenery was breathtaking. Snow drifted gently from the sky—a peaceful, quiet world. A stark contrast to sun-drenched, burning Zephyr City.

BOOOOM!

A sonic boom shattered the stillness as Vex took off into the sky, breaking the sound barrier with ease.

More booms followed in her wake as she vanished into the clouds.

Elsewhere, in a city where the sun had never risen—

"Zero, Lady Vex has requested your assistance. She says to send at least three Paragons to Zephyr," a man in a white tuxedo said, the air shimmering around him. He looked old with his white hair and wrinkled skin.

"Uuuggghhh. Why? Take care of it. I wanna sleep," a young man said lazily. He looked to be in his early teens, around 13 or 14.

He lay tucked in on a massive bed, easily four king-sized beds combined.

He looked pale, with hair that looked like a rainbow and the color wheel had a baby. He curled up on the bed, hiding his head under the covers.

"My Lord, she says Zephyr City has been destroyed and Paragon—I didn't catch his name—is engaged in battle. He's also losing. She says to meet her at the city." The butler continued, he looked composed, but if one paid attention, they would see his eyes twitching in annoyance.

"Take care of it, Rudolph. I'm sleepy," the boy, Zero, said.

"What the hell, Rudolph?!?" Zero exclaimed as Rudolph yanked the covers off him.

"Lord Zero, might I remind you that you are one of the world's leaders and it's your duty to attend to matters like these," Rudolph said, his voice stern.

"Fine, I'll go, but after this, I'm sleeping. Alright?" Zero said, his eyes shut.

"Sure, My Lord," Rudolph replied, though his voice lacked sincerity.

Zero floated off the bed. A white eye mask wrapped itself around his eyes like a blindfold.

"Let's get this over with. I hate being awake," he muttered.

"My Lord, you're still in your pajamas. I suggest you change into something more... suitable."

"This won't take long. I'll be back soon anyway," Zero said before vanishing in a flash of light.

Rudolph's mouth twitched at his Lord's laziness and arrogance before he exited the room.
