Irene's POV
"I'm so bored I could scream," Valda announced, draping herself across my bed like a tragic heroine. "We've been cooped up in this mansion for days. Don't you want to see the city? Experience life beyond these walls?"
I looked up from my notes—still basking in the glow of the brilliant paper I'd submitted thanks to Yin's help. "I guess? But I have research to do, and Mrs Fortescue will have a fit if I skip my deportment lessons—"
"Forget Mrs Fortescue or your assignment! You're the lady of this house, not some schoolgirl." I shot her a glare, no one was allowed to talk down on my future career.
Valda sat up, her eyes bright with excitement. "I know the most beautiful place, just outside the city limits. Flowers everywhere, absolutely stunning. But you'll need to dress appropriately."
