Chapter 36 - Well Played, Lord Yin...

Yin's POV

The carriage was waiting when I came downstairs, Lucian and Ervin already inside while the guards slightly bowed as I claimed in.

"You look tense," Ervin observed as I settled into my seat. "Is everything okay?"

"I don't like leaving her alone," I admitted. "I don't trust anyone in this mansion to keep her safe." Especially when that cunning and sneaky witch was still in the house.

Lucian raised an eyebrow. "She'll be perfectly fine for a few hours." He said. "The guards are all over the house, Valda won't try anything stupid except she has a death wish."

I knew he was right, but something felt off. The way she'd looked at me when I'd asked if I should stay and she'd asked me to go.

"Ervin," I said, leaning forward. "I want two guards stationed outside Irene's door. No one goes in except the servants I've already approved. And if anything happens, anything at all, I want to be notified immediately."

"Of course, Your Highness."
