Irene's POV
I couldn't stop crying. How was i supposed to after what just happened to me?
Pathetic, really. Sitting on my bed, mascara probably running down my face, sobbing like my world had ended. Which, in a way, it had.
My future was supposed to be university, a degree, independence. Instead, I was suspended indefinitely because Charlotte Whitmore and her vindictive little minions decided to ruin me for sport. Because apparently being married to Yin made me a target.
"Lady Irene, please." Juniper sat beside me, rubbing my back in small circles. "Don't cry. You'll make yourself sick."
"My life is over," I sobbed. "Everything I worked for is gone. Because of a lie I can't prove."
"Lord Yin will fix this. He promised twenty-four hours—"
"What if he can't? What if they expel me anyway? What if I never get to finish my degree?" The words came out in hiccupping gasps. "What if I'm just stuck being the disgraced wife who everyone thinks cheated her way through school?"
