Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

GAIA POV:

So, to kick off my amazing trolling, I think I'm going to create magic.

Now, when I say "magic," I don't mean Kamar-Taj's brand of mystical energy manipulation. No, I'm talking about real magic — the kind you'd see in Harry Potter. Blood magic. Magic that can warp reality itself.

Even though it's limited, it has so many uses. Just look at the spells in Harry Potter: there's Reparo to fix anything, Avada Kedavra to instantly kill, Transfiguration to literally alter matter and reshape reality. It's insanely overpowered, yet still weak in its limitations — which makes it perfect for what I have planned.

Just imagine it… Tony Stark, flying around in his Iron Man armor, casually firing off Avada Kedavra blasts at his enemies. The thought alone is giving me goosebumps.

And by that, I mean literally.

…Because I think I just accidentally destroyed an entire town with an earthquake.

Yikes. That was… a mistake.

Note to self: Be calm. Chillax.

Okay, I think I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here. That's… a bit harder than I initially thought. Now that I'm really thinking about it, giving reality-warping powers to multiple people — even in a limited way — would be pretty complicated.

So, I think I'll take a different approach. Instead of straight-up magic, I'll go for a chakra system, like in Naruto.

Ooh… maybe I could make it natural energy-based instead. People would draw energy from me — since I'm literally the planet — and use that to fuel chakra techniques. Or, in this case, natural energy techniques. With it, they'd be able to manipulate the elements, create illusions, and basically do everything chakra can do in Naruto. It's definitely more combat-focused, but it could still be used for building and creativity if someone's clever enough.

Actually… I could even introduce the Sharingan and the Byakugan. That would be so damn cool. Bringing Naruto's world into the Marvel Universe? Oh yeah, that would be fun.

But — and this is important — they'd have to be balanced this time. In Naruto, the Byakugan really got done dirty. It started off hyped as one of the "Three Great Dōjutsu"… and then spent the rest of the series being almost completely irrelevant. Meanwhile, the Sharingan went from basic eye powers to Mangekyō Sharingan, then Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, and eventually the Rinnegan. Meanwhile, the Byakugan? Nothing. No power-ups. No evolution. Just vibes.

I always thought that was such a waste, because the Byakugan is actually amazing when used properly. And before you ask — no, anything after Shippuden doesn't exist to me. Not canon. I said what I said.

…Anyway, I got sidetracked. Let's get back to the plan.

Step one: find a random human somewhere. Then, I'll give them my natural energy.

Looking across my entire body — the planet — I scan every single person until I find one. A random guy. His name's David Ramirez. He's 19 years old, a community college student studying journalism, and he works weekends at a food truck in Queens, New York. His favorite color is navy blue, and he's got a crush on someone named Sophia Kim.

For hobbies, he's into street photography and trying to fix his dad's old motorcycle. Lately, he's been trying to learn basketball, but… let's just say it's not going great. David's curious but cautious, and he dreams of becoming an investigative journalist. The problem? He gets way too nervous when confronting people.

He has this little quirk where he always carries three pens because he never trusts that one won't suddenly stop working. His biggest fear? Never amounting to anything — especially since both his older siblings are way more successful than him.

Right now, he lives in a small apartment with his mom and younger sister. The building constantly has minor electrical problems and unreliable power, which annoys the hell out of him.

…Whoa. That was strange, but also incredibly cool. Why didn't I try this earlier? I literally know everything about everyone on the planet! What the hell?! That's so broken… but also so amazing.

Yeah… I'm definitely going to abuse this power more often. I can know everything about anyone.

…Okay, yeah, I can feel it now. I'm definitely getting a god complex. Bigger than the one I already had. You know… being the planet and all.

Lol.

David Ramirez's POV

Well… hi, everyone. My name's David Ramirez. I'm 19 years old, and two days ago… I was bitten by a radioactive plant.

Okay, I don't actually know if it was radioactive… but, uh, it really hurts. Like, I'm talking it-feels-like-I-got-shot-fifty-times levels of pain, all in the spot where it bit me. And the weirdest part? The mark is still there. Which makes no sense, because…

I think I've gained superpowers.

Yeah. From the plant. What else could it be?

I've figured out I can control energy — the natural energy of the planet. The plants, the environment… It's like I'm connected to everything. I know I can do more than just that, but right now, trying to use those powers feels… impossible. It's like knowing how to move your arm but forgetting where your muscles are. So frustrating.

But… also amazing.

I have superpowers.

Do you know how cool this is?! Take that, Miguel! No matter how successful you are, you don't have superpowers — but I do! Get rekt, nerd.

Now, I could, without a doubt, make money. I could heal people. I could probably do anything. Like… am I a god? Is that what I am? Did that plant awaken my super-god genes or something? Because I know I can heal. I can feel it.

But instead of getting rich… I'm going to do the smartest possible thing in my situation:

I'm going to be a superhero.

"David! Did you say something?!" my mom yells from the kitchen, probably because I've been screaming like a lunatic at the top of my lungs. It's late. Like… 9 PM late.

"Nothing, Mom!" I shout back.

"Okay, dear!"

I grin to myself. Yeah. This is happening. I'm going to be a superhero. No — I'm going to be the greatest superhero ever. Because no one else has powers. I do. Well, except for that Captain America guy from back in the day, but he's been gone for like sixty years, so he doesn't count.

…So. How do I start?

In comics, it's always alleyways. That's where the trouble is. Which means… I need to find an alleyway.

[Time Skip – A Few Hours Later]

The house is quiet. Everyone's asleep.

I could… walk out the door like a normal person. But normal people don't become superheroes. No, no, no. Real heroes? They jump out of windows.

I slide open my bedroom window and climb up onto the ledge.

"This is so cool—" I start to whisper, and then freeze.

"…Oh my god. I forgot I'm afraid of heights."

Suddenly, my legs turn to jelly. My hands start sweating.

"Oh my god. Oh my GOD. Get me out of here! Get me out! GET ME OUT—"

And then it happens.

Something in me… reacts. I feel energy surge through my veins, and in a blink, the world snaps around me.

I teleport straight to the ground.

There's a soft poof as I land… but because I was falling horizontally, physics decides to bully me anyway, and I crash straight into the pavement.

Crack.

"OW!" I scream, clutching my nose. "I… I think I broke my nose!" Tears sting my eyes as pain throbs through my face—

And then… something incredible happens.

Green energy starts leaking from my hands.

The glow spreads into my skin, and as I clutch my nose, I feel it shift… pop… and straighten back into place.

"Whoa…" I whisper, touching it cautiously. "I knew I could heal! This is amazing!"

Alright. Time to patrol.

I start crawling through alleyways, trying to look mysterious and cool, keeping my eyes peeled for trouble. Minutes pass… nothing.

So I do the smartest possible thing: I go to another alleyway.

And that's when I find it.

Five guys. One victim. Guns in their hands. Beating him up, getting ready to rob him.

My heart pounds. My palms sweat. And then I do the dumbest thing possible.

"HEY!" I yell.

Five heads turn toward me.

"Pick on someone your own size!" I shout heroically… which would sound way cooler if I wasn't 5'5" and every single one of them looked like they were six feet and up.

The biggest guy — and I mean mountain-sized — steps forward.

"What'd you just say, punk?"

The others drop the victim and surround me.

"Yeah, you heard me!" I shout, trying to sound confident. "Pick on someone your—"

BANG!

I don't even finish my sentence before a fist slams into my face.

"OW! OW! OW!" I yelp as the other four pile on, punching me from every direction. "STOP! OW! STOP IT! OW!"

And then… something inside me snaps.

Green energy explodes out of my hands, solidifying into sharp wooden spikes — and I accidentally stab every single one of them.

"OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" I scream, flailing, while the gang members are screaming too.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!"

"GET IT OUT! GET IT OUT!"

"WHAT THE FUCK"

"AAAAAAAAH!"

I panic. "I'M TRYING! I'M TRYING! I'M SORRY!"

"You shouldn't rob people! Be good!" I yell desperately.

"WE WILL! WE WILL!" they all scream back, writhing in pain.

But then… something worse happens.

I feel a pull — a deep, unnatural connection — and suddenly, the spikes start absorbing their energy.

"W-Wait, what's happening?!" one shouts, his voice breaking.

I watch in horror as their bodies wither. Their muscles collapse, their faces sink in, their skin clings to bone. They grow thinner, and thinner, and thinner…

And then…

They turn to dust.

Every single one of them.

I stumble back, shaking, staring at my trembling hands.

"Oh my god…" I whisper, my voice cracking. "Oh my god, I… I just…"

I run.

I sprint out of the alley, my heart pounding, tears burning my eyes. I can't breathe.

I killed them.

Not… innocent people, but… still. They were human. They had lives. Families. Maybe even kids.

"Oh my god…" I whisper again as the guilt slams into me like a truck.

I don't feel like a hero anymore.
