Chapter 18 - CHAPTER 18

ZAIN

Tracking Aiden and his new found friend made me remember the old days. When I had no allegiance, I just did my duty as a dream god. When I had allies, even friends that I could call upon. But those days are over now just because I trusted the wrong person, no not trust gave my soul to the wrong person. Seth being the conniving bastard used the situation to his advantage, all of them thought i wanted any part of this. What they didn't know is that am also just a pawn in Seth's game like everyone else and he's just a few moves from checkmating everyone.

The bastard is smart, I will give him that. But his one weakness is looking down on others, thereby underestimating them. Looking through the transparent barrier Seth set to keep my daughter away from me, the daughter I couldn't hold since the day she was born. A tear dropped from my eyes, the daughter I ache to hold, chatting with someone I didn't know just a few meters from me yet she's thousands of miles out of reach. Seth at least kept his promise and saved her, he just didn't leave it at that. He went and joined her life force to his, making him untouchable to me and owning my loyalty and protection by force.

"She's a lovely girl, isn't she?" Seth spoke as he came into the room, "she calls me uncle you know"

Yeah, he was goading me on purpose but to what end?, So he can laugh about it and show that he's the one in control. I have spent the last 19 years with him to be able to read that much about his intent.

"You aren't rising to the bait, I see. You must have plenty on your mind" he spoke as he pours himself a drink.

"Jared just met up with Taweret and they are on thier way to Ra's throne" I informed him

"That's good, that's very good. Your help has been much appreciated thus far, you have proved yourself an indespensable ally"

I smirked, ally my ass more like slave. We both know I have no joy in doing this and the minute I get the opportunity, am going to kill him or I die trying. There's nothing I can do for now or in the future, he made sure of that by joining my daughter's life force with his. Any attempt to kill him may very well end my daughter's life. Thinking about it every time gives me migraine which is absurd considering am a god.

"Don't forget our deal Seth, when you get what you want..." I reminded him

"I haven't forgotten, as long as you complete your end of the bargain" he smiled.

I know he isn't going to release my daughter just because of a bargain made. Seth isn't one to keep his promises, have learnt that much about him. That's why I need him to believe I believe he's going to keep it, so I can pull the one last trick I have up my sleeves. Time to meet an old of friend.

"I have to take something from Jared's house, something he owns that has his essence. We need to make you look exactly like him, that's the only way you are entering his father's domain"

I said that last part to get on his nerves. He hates it when Jared is referred to as Ra's son. His look of supreme disgust on his face had me secretly smiling.

"Well, go on and be fast about it. There's no time to waste, you are dismissed"

I made my way out of his house thinking of the time I had to spare for a quick stop, time is of the essence now. I braced myself for the visit I intended to pay an old friend of mine, knowing full well the reception I will be getting.

TEMPLE OF THOTH

"What the hell are you doing here" came the shout that nearly deafened me. I looked to the shawdows where the voice came from. He was seated on a throne, in the middle of what was once a temple enamored with all the pleasant things that could be found on earth. Those days when he was revered and worshipped, those days that he still haven't gotten over by the look of things.

"I need your help, Thoth" I announced like I had every right to, knowing it would provoke him.

The face moved out of the shadows and the smile on that face was darn eerie. Thoth, god of wisdom and keeper of time, one of the 8 original gods of the Ogdoad.

"You have a death wish boy?" He asked me, "if that's why you are here, then you came to the right place" still smiling that eerie smile of his.

"Am here to collect a debt, a debt am owed by you" I said with bravado that I wasn't feeling and he knew it.

"Is that so?, Why is it that I can't remember it?"

"Don't play with me Thoth, you very well know what am talking about" I said meeting his stare without flinching. when you are in Thoth's presence you don't show weakness of any form. I stared the him down for what felt like minutes.

"Very well, what do you want?" He said reluctantly, beckoning me towards him.

I walked up to him, stretching out my hands. The minute he touched my palms, I felt sick to my stomach, so this is how you feel when you have all your secrets sifted through, I wondered. Finally releasing my hand in what felt like hours when it was actually Less than a minute.

"You are very stupid" he spat, "why would you sleep with a human female in her dreams?"

There it was, the truth I didn't tell anyone. That I had a relationship with a female in her dream state, a thing of shame for me. Lou's pain reached out to me on one occasion when I was dream walking and never let me go. I looked down in shame over something I would always regret.

Thoth looking at me disdainfully said, "there's no way I can help you"

I looked up immediately to watch him, watching me intently. "What do you mean?"

"Your plan is to kill Seth and free her through her death with Anubis powers, isn't that so?"

"Yes and why can't you help me?" He was the only one that could talk Anubis into doing anything.

"He didn't just join his and your daughter's life force, it's his life force in the first place that's keeping her alive. Simply put, kill him, you kill her" he said coldly without emotion

Not knowing the words he just uttered shattered any ray of hope I had. How can this be, how can there not be a single way to help my daughter. A tear slid down my cheek.

"She's just an extension of him now, your daughter has no life force of her own. It's a process that can't be undone"

I wasn't even aware I had fallen on my knees. So, this is how am going to be living now. I knew Seth isn't going to let us go like that, I knew that with every fiber of my being. Should I just kill him and mourn for my daughter for the rest of my life?, Can I stomach doing so?. Too many questions flowed in my head, not knowing a answer to a single one.

I felt Thoth approach me, crutching in front of me with his hands on my shoulders. I looked up and saw pity in his eyes.

"You need to let her go Zain, or you will live the rest of your life a slave" and I sobbed for the daughter I never got to play with, that I never got to introduce myself to, the daughter that was an innocent in the scheme of a self entitled mad god. Knowing that, I had made up my mind on what I would do.

"I need a favor from you" I said, already planning my next move

"Ask away"
