Chapter 56: Spider-Man Xi Nian Online
Under the protection of Spider-Woman, the instructor and students managed to leave the mall building and arrive on the pedestrian street outside.
Xi Nian looked around. The situation outside on the city streets was even worse than inside the mall earlier!
The school bus that had been parked at the entrance was already scrapped, crushed beneath collapsed buildings into a heap of twisted metal. A series of car accidents blocked the main roads completely. In every street and alley, alien machines descended, killing and bombing at will. The cries and screams of humans overlapped one another, and the very heart of New York had fallen into chaos.
At this moment, it was like the end of the world.
"That is…"
Amid the chaos, Xi Nian spotted a familiar tall figure standing atop a car.
The young man wore a blue tight-fitting uniform, his left arm carrying a round shield emblazoned with a star.
This shield was nothing like the cheap toys sold on the market. Its metallic sheen, the way it was thrown to strike down an alien machine and then defy physics to fly right back into his hand—it all proved it was the true relic of history.
"Captain." Xi Nian's heart stirred. New York City right now clearly wasn't short of superheroes.
Captain America, Steve Rogers, noticed Xi Nian as well. He jumped down from the car and quickly told Xi Nian and the group of students, "It's too dangerous here. You need to leave at once!"
"Then where is safe?" Instructor Lott asked urgently.
Half of Captain America's face was visible beneath his helmet, his expression grim as he answered bluntly, "Nowhere in New York City is safe. Follow the road out of the city center. The outer districts should already have officials organizing evacuations."
So the situation was that dire…
Xi Nian frowned deeply. From the Captain's words, even the fall of all New York was possible.
But it made sense.
Xi Nian raised his gaze. The blue beam of light pierced straight into the sky, and the abyss above was growing wider. The area around Stark Tower was shrouded in oppressive darkness.
Thunder roared there, bolts of lightning tearing through the sky and striking down swarms of alien aircraft. Clearly, there were other extraordinary heroes fighting to hold the invasion at bay.
For now, the superheroes stationed in New York could barely manage against the alien machines. But as long as that rift remained open, the invaders would multiply without end.
This was the second time in modern human history—and on a massive scale—that Earth faced an alien invasion.
…
Xi Nian handed the alien energy rifle he had picked up to the instructor. First, he had never learned to shoot. Second, with the artifact bracelet on his wrist, he didn't need it—his weapon was far more reliable than an alien gun.
With New York's superheroes clashing against the invaders, and with Spider-Woman secretly protecting them, Xi Nian, his classmates, and the instructors managed to retreat safely from the heart of the battlefield.
Ten kilometers out—
This part of the city had not yet been touched by the alien forces. Police struggled to maintain traffic, and the roads were jammed with cars and pedestrians carrying their belongings, all fleeing New York.
Instructor Lott, the alien rifle slung across his chest, told his assistant and the students, "Beck, take the students farther out of the city."
"Lott, you're staying behind?" Mysterio Beck asked in shock.
Lott nodded firmly. "Some students got separated earlier and are still in the city. As their instructor, I must find them and bring them out."
"…Alright." Beck sighed when he saw Lott's determination and did not try to dissuade him further.
"Wait—where's Xi Nian?" Beck scanned the group of students in surprise.
"I don't know. He was just here a moment ago."
The students looked at each other, confused.
…
In the outer city, down a side alley not far from the main road.
Xi Nian had slipped away on his own. As shadows flickered on the wall, Spider-Woman descended upside down on her white webs, hanging two meters above the ground.
"You're going back into the battlefield, aren't you?" Xi Nian asked her directly.
Spider-Woman nodded softly. "There are still many people who haven't escaped."
"I knew it." Xi Nian wasn't surprised.
Not only did Gwen inherit Officer George's sense of justice, but even when she had faced Abomination before, she had chosen to fight.
Now, of course she wouldn't back down.
"Then go. Do what you need to do," Xi Nian said, encouraging her.
"But…" The usually decisive Spider-Woman suddenly hesitated.
"You're worried about me, right?" Xi Nian said helplessly.
If it were Gwen normally, she would have denied it with a blush. But now, as Spider-Woman Gwen, she answered firmly, "Yes."
"Then let me tell you a secret." Xi Nian smiled. He reached forward and tugged at the edge of her mask, pulling it down just enough to reveal her nose.
Before him was half a delicate upside-down face—half a girl's features, half a spider's mask.
"What secret?" Spider-Woman asked curiously.
Before she could finish, Xi Nian leaned in and kissed the corner of her lips.
But that alone wasn't enough to trigger his ability.
There needed to be a medium.
He hesitated. And in that moment, Spider-Woman's lips parted slightly, like an inviting dessert waiting to be tasted.
No reason to hesitate anymore.
Xi Nian adjusted his angle, covering her soft lips with his own, reaching deeper for the medium his ability required.
Gwen truly lived up to the name of Spider-Woman. Not only was her body supple on the outside—inside, she was just as flexible.
For a moment, Xi Nian felt as though he were savoring the most precious, soft jelly. At the same time, subtle changes began in his body—
His pupils narrowed.
Every hair on his body stood on end, sensing every detail around him.
Toned muscles—biceps, abs, the kind that even athletes struggled to achieve—began to take shape across his body.
"W-what?!" Spider-Woman's eyes widened in shock as she felt Xi Nian's transformation.
Her spider sense flared violently.
Her body told her the truth—Xi Nian was now one of her kind.
"There's nothing to worry about anymore," Xi Nian said after breaking the kiss. He had obtained the powers of his childhood friend.
