"What are you talking about? What is he talking about?" Layla asked Kane, then turned to Quinn and questioned her.
Asher was looking at his mom then at Quinn, confused at what was going on. And so was everyone else. Quinn, however, didn't seem too confused. As a matter of fact, Kane could see right through her.
He wasn't wrong in his assumptions of something going on between Quinn and O'Daniel. Well, of course he wasn't. He is Alex Kane after all. One of Gryfton's best investigators.
"I don't know what he's on to," Quinn responded, defending herself immediately.
Her breathing had increased. The pulsating vein on the side of her head had grown slightly bigger. She was swallowing hard, and avoiding eye contact with Kane. Little did she know that Kane was looking at all of these.
He needed her on the edge to read her body language. And from the word go, she was lying through her teeth. For Kane, this was like a ferris wheel ride. It was fun for him to see everything and know exactly where to poke.
The thing is, Kane knew that whatever Quinn's secret was, it had no impact on the disappearance of O'Daniel. For him, it was going to be a show of what he can do. A show for them to understand that telling him a lie could only get you so far before he calls you out. It was a move, for Ethan to understand, who he was working with and why he was called one of the best.
"Okay. You sound so confident, yet I can see you lying with every word that has come out of your mouth," Kane commented, looking at the case file.
He was focused on the pictures that they had for O'Daniel. He looked at them keenly, while the others were in a limbo of confusion, wondering what Kane was on to.
"Mr Kane, whatever it is you think you've uncovered, I hope you don't mind sharing it with us," Ethan said, having a sense that Kane was just pulling that move to show off.
He never quite understood how Kane had gotten so good while he was still young. It didn't help that they've never worked together.
"Okay, if you must insist. I was hoping Quinn was going to say it out loud for herself, but she must be shy about it. One would think that this is a serious matter. I can assure you that it's not. Neither does it not relate with the case, I just want to make sure everyone in the room is on the right track," Kane responded, giving Quinn one last chance to say it herself.
Instead, she sat on one of the couches and looked at Layla, confusion written all over her face.
"Ah, fine. I'll start with saying what I'm sure is going through all of your heads. She wasn't having an affair with Mr O'Daniel," Kane finally started to spill the truth.
As these words came out of his mouth, Layla froze while Asher's stare snapped to Quinn.
"I know you were thinking exactly that when I told you something was going on between your husband and Quinn," Kane said, turning his attention to Layla, who was still in shock but with a sense of relief.
If that wasn't what was happening, then what was it?
"I can easily tell from how Quinn has responded. She's been very nervous from the moment I've started going after her. As soon as I've made that accusation, she froze as well, in shock. When she sat down, she was tapping her foot on the ground from the tension in the room. And, when she heard about having an affair with your husband, her facial expression changed. If she was having an affair, she would have shame all over her face. But she didn't." Kane informed everyone as they all looked at Quinn.
"What expression did she have if not shame?" Jenna asked, intrigued with how Kane was handling the matter.
"Disgust. She was grossed out with the idea of sleeping with your husband. Your husband doesn't strike me as the man to go around looking for other women. It's not like him, as I'm sure you would say," Kane responded.
"Why would Quinn be disgusted and not ashamed. And if she wasn't having an affair with my dad, then what's going between her and him?" Asher asked, starting to get anxious to know the truth.
Quinn hadn't moved, neither had she said a word. She was looking at Kane, wondering if he was really certain of her secret. Their eyes met, and for a second, Kane could feel that perhaps she was challenging him. Asking him to prove that he wasn't on a wild goose chase. And Kane took the challenge.
"Well, it should be obvious from here. I mean, look at Quinn's jawline, eye color and posture. Then compare it with O'Daniel's. Layla, as a mother I'm sure you're now starting to see the resemblance between Quinn and your husband," Kane said, waiting for Layla to catch on.
And she did. Kane could see her eyes go wide with shock as she looked at her husband's photos and looked at Quinn.
"What is he talking about?" Asher questioned, looking at his mother.
"Asher, I'd like for you to meet your sister. Or if need be, your stepsister," Kane answered him, looking at Quinn, who was flabbergasted.
"I'm sorry, what in tarnations is going on?" Jenna asked in shock, looking at the file and realizing that nowhere was Quinn mentioned to be O'Daniel's daughter.
According to what she could see, O'Daniel had only one child, and that was Asher O'Daniel.
"That's why she's been so concerned with finding out about what has happened to O'Daniel and if he'll be found. She isn't here in the capacity of his secretary, she's here as a worried daughter whose father has gone missing," Kane finally stated as he looked at Quinn who looked shocked.
