Chapter 1 - The Ring

Cole Mercer wasn't expecting this. His life had been filled with ups and downs but one day it all got worse. It was discovered that Cole could not manifest an Aura, a rare condition that has sparingly appeared throughout history. He was among the unlucky and his aspirations of becoming a Huntsman were severely damaged, yet he kept going. Desperate to find another way to become a Huntsman. No matter what he did, he kept hitting roadblocks and yet that didn't stop him. He trained and pushed himself and yet he kept failing.

No one was willing to give him a chance at becoming a Huntsman. Cole didn't stop and trained himself, pushing further to give himself a fighting chance. Though, he never got the chance to forge his own weapon. He couldn't even attend one of the classes that inevitably lead to a Huntsman Academy. It was hopeless but Cole kept going. Holding onto hope that he can still become a Huntsman.

But that wasn't what he didn't expect. Today was just any other day, filled with training and learning to become a Huntsman. His hard work pushing him further. Yet it wasn't enough like always. So, Cole went for a walk outside of his home village. He had gotten far away when he noticed something falling from the sky at intense speeds. He was confused and thought it was a meteor, but it was green. When it crashed down not far from him, he went to investigate and found a crater with a small green ring inside.

He slid down the crater and walked up to the ring with curiosity and confusion resting on his face. He knelt down and grabbed the ring before standing up and inspecting the ring. It had a unique design and Cole thought it looked cool. But how did it fall from the sky at such speeds? It looked like it could fit on his finger, and his curiosity got the best of him.

Cole put the ring onto his middle finger. Once it was snug on his finger, his eyes suddenly began glowing green as a large amount of information flew into Cole's mind. He then levitated off the ground as he began to speak.

"In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power... Green Lantern's light!" Cole chanted unconsciously.

A bright flash of green emits from the ring as it covers Cole's body. Once it died down, his feet touched the ground before Cole's eyes stopped glowing green. He then looked at himself and saw a green and black suit with white gloves on his body. The suit around his wait to his knee was black and below the knee were green boots. His arms beneath the shoulder and to his forearm were also black, but his white gloves covered the rest of his forearm and hands. The suit on his torso and shoulders was green as a strange symbol, the same one seeing on the ring, is stamped on his chest. Cole feels something on his face, so he touched his face and feels a mask over his mouth, nose and eyes. He looks at his hands confused.

"What the hell?" Cole asked, totally confused and caught off guard by what happened.

Then the ring glowed a little. Cole looked at it before a hologram projected from the ring and showed him a figure.

"To whoever discovers the Ring, you have been chosen for a task of unparalleled importance." The figure in the hologram said. "You must protect yourself and the Universe around you from the forces of evil. Your path as a Green Lantern will be difficult and filled with many challenges, but through your willpower, you will overcome all who oppose you."

It was clear to Cole that this was a message, but who was this figure? What was this ring? What is a Green Lantern?

"To bring an end to your confusion, I have filled this ring with the necessary information you'll need for training and learning the ways of the Green Lantern. Many legends have come before you, let their achievements be an example of what your capable of." the figure said. "You have a long journey ahead of you, I have faith that whoever you are. You will be among the greats. Good luck, Green Lantern."

With that the figure vanished back into the ring leaving Cole even more confused. But he recalls the information that flooded into his mind. He tries to focus to process it all, and it comes to him piece by piece. This ring is a Green Lantern Ring, a powerful item capable of turning imagination into a weapon and is fueled by Willpower. That's pretty much all it said, but it also told him how to call upon his new ring's power to access the stored information. So, he looked at the ring before he projected a ton of holographic screens from the ring.

"Oh boy... this is gonna take a while." Cole said.

[Timeskip]

Cole had been digging into the information stored into the ring and training with his newly acquired powers. Thankfully he grasps concepts quickly. He also wrote down notes about this all, so he doesn't have to rely on the ring for information. From what he understands, he now possesses numerous powers, but the most important one is that he can create energy constructs powered by his willpower. The instructions he found were simple enough to follow and with them he was able to form anything he wanted from green energy. The only real limit was his imagination apparently. Something this powerful shocked him, he also learned that it came from another Universe and unlike other rings of that Universe, it doesn't require an external power battery to recharge. It will be charged by Cole's own willpower. However, if his will begins to weaken and fade away, the ring's power will as well.

This took him weeks, but he got the hang of the basics. He also tried to apply for Beacon Academy, and he was now waiting for any news to come back. He hopes that he can get accepted. He also had to get used to flying, which was a struggle, but he got it. He was currently far from his home village testing out the ring. He had created a gauntlet around his right and left fists and was punching the air. He then stops and descends from the sky. Once he lands, he uses the ring to switch from his Green Lantern suit to his casual clothes. Once he did, he felt a vibration in his pocket. He reaches in and pulls out his scroll. As he opens it a notification pops up telling him he was accepted into Beacon Academy. He was stunned at first before smiling. Finally, his change to prove himself.
