Thus He once more wielded divine power and created Tethys (Tethys, Ancient Greek: Τηθ, not Thetis, mother of Achilles).
She is the goddess who governs the flow of waters, the goddess of fresh water, the goddess who moistens all things, and the goddess who nourishes the world.
She is responsible for drawing the endless waters of the vast encircling ocean Oceanus into the world and then returning them to the ocean.
She is also responsible for coursing all the world's rivers and lakes and using them to nourish the world, making it teeming with vitality.
Yet even with the moistening of flowing water, the earth still seemed too desolate, lacking a vibrant scene of life.
Therefore the Sky-Father, the lord of all things, once again wielded supreme divine power and created the god of creation, growth, and harvest—Kronos!
At this point the world was sufficiently perfected, formally stepping from the "binary state of the unity of opposites" into the "ternary state that engenders the myriad things."
This is the cosmic truth that Dao (Wuji) begets One (Taiji), One begets Two (Heaven and Earth, yin and yang, light and dark), Two begets Three, and Three begets the myriad things.
"Three," this sacred number, is the number of perfection in the universe, the number of all things.
It symbolizes the unity of beginning, middle, and end, and represents the summation of past, present, and future.
It is the smallest odd prime, the first asymmetric prime, and the first composite number.
The basic dimensions of three-dimensional space—length, width, and height—constitute the foundation of solid geometry and are the basic form of physical existence in the real world.
The three basic states of matter—solid, liquid, and gas—form the core logic of material change in the world.
The three primary colors of light (red, green, blue) and the three primary colors of pigment (red, yellow, blue) are the basis of vision and color.
Even the biological genetic code: DNA codons are also composed of three nucleotides, the basic units determining protein synthesis.
"Three," this sacred number, marks the thorough transformation of Heaven and Earth from chaotic disorder to orderly arrangement.
The world's evolution entering the ternary marks the beginning of the gods evolving the myriad beings and phenomena.
After the advent of Kronos, the world's earth became prosperous; endless plants began to appear.
Under the joint gestation of the divine power of Heaven and Earth, mortal life also began to slowly appear, sprouting the earliest consciousness.
By now the world had completely found its proper course, was free of external threats, and was thriving at an astonishing pace, brimming with vigor.
Even the darkness among intelligent beings—the now lone Night Goddess Nyx—played dead, not daring any disturbance, not daring in the least to challenge the Sky-Father's authority.
It seemed as if everything was fine, everything flourishing, as though an eternal Golden Age were about to arrive.
However, at this very moment, in the depths of the heart of the ancient and powerful primordial Mother of Matter, Gaia, there was already hidden an endless rage.
Uranus constantly expanded His authority, disregarded Gaia's opinions, wantonly created and evolved, and forced her to "gestate" one law after another.
He split her authority into fragments.
If everything could have met her wishes, if the two gods could have created together with one heart and one mind, that would have been one thing.
But everything hinged solely on Uranus's will; she dared say nothing, and had to fully cooperate with Uranus's endless taking as He pleased—how could she endure that?
She is the primordial Mother of Matter! The root of all existence!
Yet now she had become merely the source for Uranus's creations!
Like a passive tool!
This mood, suppressed to the extreme, made her nearly go mad—or rather, nearly be driven to despair by this unceasing oppression.
When it cannot be borne, there is no need to bear it any longer!
Of course that was impossible.
She could only keep enduring.
What became of the last one who could not endure—all the gods could see it clearly.
Direct confrontation was absolutely impossible; it would only bring instant destruction.
She could only think of a plan in secret and seek the chance to strike back.
She would borrow the power of Uranus to open her counterattack!
Thus she took the initiative to engage in a union of laws with Uranus, intending to conceive a pure god of matter, a god of destruction, to serve as the blade of her counterstrike.
Uranus did not care about the thoughts of any intelligent beings; the stronger the world, the stronger He became.
But the one exception was Gaia, Mother of All.
The supreme firmament, the supreme sovereign—He did not care about anything in the cosmos nor keep anything in mind, for those were all petty, humble existences He could create or annihilate with a flick of the hand.
Only the most root and essential cornerstone of cosmic existence, the concrete embodiment of matter, the source that gave birth to spirit—the source of all things, Gaia—could forever draw Him deeply.
The active union of the Mother of All only delighted Him; therefore the Sky-Father willingly sank into joyous union with the Earth-Mother. Heaven and Earth once again entwined, and the cosmos was filled with the rhythm of divinity.
The difference was that this time the union was led by the Mother of All, Gaia. They joined at a depth never before seen; the laws of the world collided and evolved violently.
The firmament and the earth fused tightly; endless laws clashed violently; endless matter was generated at a rapid pace; the cosmic quickening reached its peak.
After a length of time incomprehensible to mortals, within Heaven and Earth, amid terrible thunderous booms and blinding flashes of light, were born three Kyklopes (Cyclopes, Greek: κκλωψ), the legendary one-eyed giants.
They were:
Brontes (Brontes / Βρντη): meaning "thunder," whose birth brought rumbling from the depths of the cosmos.
Steropes (Steropes / Στερπη): meaning "lightning," whose birth tore open the primordial darkness.
Arges (Arges / ργη): meaning "bolt," whose birth bore destructive power.
The intelligent beings conceived this time were entirely different from before.
Because of the Earth Mother's active cooperation and deep union, the three Cyclopes were born with bodies by nature, rather than being mere embodiments of cosmic law; they were the perfect union of flesh, divinity, and law.
These three Cyclopes fully combined the strengths of Heaven and Earth.
They were deft of mind and hand, possessing extraordinary craftsmanship, capable of forging astonishing divine artifacts.
They also possessed extraordinary wisdom, able to discern the mysteries of law.
At the same time, they possessed fearsome primordial might and the power of law.
Their power was inherited from Uranus, Lord of the Cosmos, and Gaia, Mother of All. Their bodies, naturally born of Heaven and Earth, were incomparably mighty from birth.
They could treat mountains ten thousand li high like marbles to be played with at will; they could easily divert rivers a million li long; even the boundless inland sea could not drown their towering forms.
