My hand closed around the knight's throat, slamming him against the pillar with a force that rattled the hall.
His eyes bulged as he clawed at my grip.
"You let her leave?" My voice came as a growl. "You watched my wife ride from my home without stopping her?"
"S...sire..." he choked, "we feared..."
"FEARED WHAT?" My roar shook the corridor, sent the other guards stumbling back. "There is no force in this world you should fear more than me when it comes to her!"
I dropped him, letting him crumple to the floor gasping for air.
My knights stood frozen, eyes wide with terror.
One dared to speak. "My lord, shall we send word to..."
"No." My tone cut him off. "Not a whisper leaves this palace until she is back in my arms. Anyone who breathes a word of this will wish they had never drawn breath at all."
"You do not know where she went?"
"No, sire," one whispered.
