Chapter 6 - The Rider

Chapter 6

Hazel's POV

As we walked on our way towards the village path, me carrying the groceries for Stepmom, Laura lost in thoughts about Lexi, suddenly a rider on a black horse came galloping toward us out of a shadowy grove. The rider was clad in black armor, a black cloth covering his face, leaving only his piercing green eyes visible. He came out of nowhere, scaring the life out of us. We both screamed and started running faster toward... well, away from him.

In my panic, I lost my footing on the uneven path and fell down hard. The bags of groceries went flying, flour spilling everywhere like a white cloud. I rose up quickly, cursing the rider under my breath. "What the heck was that?!" I snapped, brushing myself off.

The rider stopped his horse a short distance away and looked at us. I glared at him. "Some people got no sense riding like maniacs!" I said loudly. "What's wrong with you?"

Laura stood frozen beside me, her eyes wide. She just kept quiet like I'm the only one affected, well I was the only one affected because my stepmom will drained the life out of me.

The rider, was alluring in his black armor. His hair was dark brown with natural waves that framed his sharp jawline. Strands of it peeked out from under the edge of his helmet. His piercing green eyes seemed to bore into me, intense and captivating. Despite the cloth covering most of his face, the aura around him was commanding and attractive.

I kept insulting him, not knowing who he was. "You could've killed us! What's your problem?"

Laura nudged me subtly, trying to quiet me down, knowing something. But I didn't catch on.

The rider swung down from his black horse with a fluid motion. He walked towards us, his black armor creaking softly with each step. His dark brown hair moved in luxuriant waves as he walked, framing his sharp jawline and emphasizing the intensity of his piercing green eyes. Strands of hair danced slightly with his movements.

He stopped right in front of me, Hazel. His green eyes seemed to sparkle with a hint of amusement as he looked down at me, standing amidst the spilled flour. A subtle smile played on his lips, visible even beneath the black cloth covering most of his face. It was a smile that was both captivating and unnerving, making my heart beat a bit faster.

I glared up at him, still not backing down. "You shouldn't ride like that. Could've hurt someone."

Laura was silent beside me, watching the scene unfold with wide eyes. I don't know why she's so quiet.

His gaze lingered on me, his eyes crinkling slightly at the corners as he smiled more noticeably now. For a moment, it felt like he was looking at me in a way no one else ever had – like he saw something in me that was interesting.
