Chapter 14 - The Reunion

Chapter 14

Writer's POV

The King sat at the head of the grand table in the dimly lit throne room, surrounded by all the royal authorities. Dukes, earls, barons, and other high-ranking nobles were present alongside advisors and military leaders. Henry, second commander of the hunters and a trusted ally of Lord Lexington, was also present. The air was thick with tension as they discussed the brewing conflict. Lord Lexington, also known as Lexi, commander of the Elite Hunters, stood before them, his piercing green eyes surveying the room.

"My lords and ladies," the King began gravely, "we've received troubling news. The vampires are on the move, and to make matters worse, reports indicate that the werewolves are joining forces with them. Lord Lexington, you've led our Elite Hunters on many missions against these threats. Tell us more about the situation."

Lexi nodded, his voice steady and serious. "Yes, Your Majesty. Our intelligence confirms the vampires are mobilising, seeking to exploit the shadows for a strike. The werewolves, traditionally adversaries of the vampires, are now reportedly in talks of an alliance. It seems the vampires have offered them a truce and a united front against humans."

The royal authorities exchanged worried glances. "An alliance against humans?" asked Lady Alethea, a sharp-witted advisor. "What basis do they have for this?"

Lexi's gaze was unflinching. "The vampires promise an end to centuries of strife between them and the werewolves, my lady. In return, the werewolves would lend their brute strength in battles against humans. Together, these two forces could be unstoppable."

Duke Harrington spoke up. "How reliable is this intelligence, Lord Lexington?"

"Very reliable, my lord," Lexi replied. "My Elite killers have infiltrated the fringes of both vampire and werewolf territories. They've witnessed meetings between leaders of both sides. The pact is not yet sealed, but it's imminent."

Henry, sitting beside Lord Thomas, nodded in agreement with Lexi's assessment. "We've seen signs of unusual activity among the werewolves too, Your Majesty," Henry added.

The authorities began discussing strategies in hushed tones. The King raised his voice above the murmurs. "What do you recommend, Lord Lexington, given your experience against these foes?"

Lexi didn't hesitate. "We must prepare for war, Your Majesty. Defensive preparations along the borders, intelligence gathering on both vampire and werewolf movements, and protecting human subjects are paramount. The Elite killers are ready to strike at key targets if needed."

Lady Eleanor, concerned for the populace, spoke. "My lord King, what of the people? How do we keep them safe?"

Lexi answered, his tone firm. "We'll increase patrols in villages, my lady. The Elite killers will work with local guards to ensure safety. But we need the kingdom's full cooperation to counter this alliance's threat."

The King nodded solemnly. "We will prepare. Lord Lexington, I want daily reports on the situation. You have full authority to act as needed to safeguard our kingdom."

Lexi bowed his head. "Yes, Your Majesty. I'll do everything to protect the kingdom."

The meeting adjourned with a sense of foreboding, the authorities dispersing to prepare for the looming threat of the vampire-werewolf alliance.
