Chapter 1 - Prologue...

Nobody cares…

As I've lived quietly, I know that nobody really cares about me. And why would they? For them, I'm nothing more than an extra—someone who came and then went away. And it's not wrong either. From my own perspective, I do the same. I don't care about anyone, so I can't really say it's a wrong thing.

But here's another fun fact: no one is really an extra, you know. They just feel like an extra in other people's lives. But in truth, they're always the main character of their own life, their own story.

Even if someone portrays another person as the main character of their story, the truth doesn't change—they're still the real MC of their life. No matter what.

…But one thing remains unchanged, and that is… nobody cares about an extra.

Yeah.

Even in fiction, most of you might have noticed… or maybe not, whatever, I don't really care. The thing is—in fiction, no one cares about an extra. Even we, who read or watch, don't care about them. It's universal—I know it, you know it, we all know it. Same goes for reality.

Well, it's not like we have some kind of responsibility to worry about extras. So yeah, no need to pay them any mind. Just focus on yourself. Be just yourself…

BAAM!!

Something—or someone—just slammed into the dungeon wall.

As the dust settled, it revealed a young girl struggling to get up, blood dripping from her mouth as she coughed.

"ARGHH!! Take this!!" another voice shouted as someone charged the monster.

[Sword Art: Swift Slash]

Clang!

Useless. The monster's skin was as solid as rock. There's no way they were going to win against that thing. But whatever—it's not my problem.

The monster swung its massive arm, swatting the swordsman away like a mosquito.

"AGHHH!!" he screamed as blood sprayed, his body smashing into the wall.

Two down. As for the third one—oh, they're nowhere to be seen. Looks like they already ran off. Well, can't blame them. Because…

…I'm doing the same.

Was about to, but—

Growl?

The monster froze. Confused. One of the humans he had thrown down… was getting back up. Standing again on shaky legs.

ROARLL!!

Seeing his attack had "failed" (though it really hadn't), the monster went into a frenzy, charging at the girl with even greater fury.

Well… she's doomed anyway. Nothing I can do. Nothing I should do. Don't need to worry about her. The MC will get here eventually, so no need to get involved.

Though I kept telling myself that, for some reason I couldn't just turn away. Not yet.

'Don't need to worry about them…'

Then the girl stood up properly. But instead of running away—she smiled.

'Don't need to worry about them…'

That smile… beautiful. But her eyes—

'Don't need to worry about them…'

They were crying. She was smiling, but her eyes were crying.

'Don't need to worry…'

…ah, fuck this.

Before I realized it, I was already running toward her.

I don't know why. I knew I shouldn't. I knew if I did this, I might die. And yet, here I am.

"System, allocate all attribute points to speed."

Damn… those were my hard-earned points. Sigh.

[Do you wish to allocate all AP to Speed?]

{Yes / No}

'Yes.'

A sudden lightness ran through my body. My speed exploded and for a sec I thought the world is on slow motion.

Woosh!

BAAM!!!

The monster crashed headfirst into the dungeon wall, shattering it completely. If she had still been standing there… god, I don't even want to think.

I looked down at the girl in my arms. She stared at me wide-eyed, utterly shocked and confused. Well… who could blame her?

I was the first to ditch them, and now here I am, saving her.

…Ha. Hypocrisy on top, huh?

Anyway… how the hell did I end up here?

Don't expect an answer. Even I don't know. The only thing I can say is—it all started just a month ago.

That's all. Now… shoo shoo. Gotta take care of this shit.
