"thank the gods it's home time" krispin stretched "I can't wait to grow up and not have to go to the academy anymore"
"I don't understand why everybody's so eager to grow up. It's like you don't understand how much work being an adult is" shane shook his head.
"You're wise beyond your year's Shane" I smirked teasingly. He shot me an annoyed look.
"Nii-san" I stopped at hanakos soft voice. Standing in front of her was an slightly older boy with shoulder length chestnut coloured hair. He shared the same eyes as hanakos though his eyes were sharper. I recognised him.
He was naoto hakuta. He later gose on to be a holy knight alongside Selene after losing his younger cousin.
"Uncle sent me to walk you home" his cold tone made her flinch.
"Father sent you? He hasn't given me special treatment since-" she stopped. I knew what she was referring to. Hanako was the oldest daughter of the hakuta clan, a traditional clan that put a lot of emphasis on strength. Hanako never met their high standards and so she was disowned, her hair cut short to let everyone know her shame.
"Don't ask me. I couldn't care less about your family drama" he turned his back to her "now move it"
She nodded before following him. I watched them sadly. They have a complicated relationship thanks to their social standing. They later have a fight that results in her running away.
That was the day she was killed. Naoto never recovered from this loss.
This got me thinking. The reason hanako died was because naoto pushed her away. If I could get the cousins to make up then she would survive.
"Nova what are you doing?" Shane looked alarmed as I approached them.
"Hi I'm nova" I held my hand out with a smile "I noticed you two are having trouble. Maybe I could-" without warning he grabbed my the wrist and threw me over his shoulder. I gasped painfully as I hit the floor.
"Mind your own business demon" he spat.
"Nii-san don't" she grabbed his arm "Nova's my friend. Please don't-" he shoved her roughly, his eyes were murderous.
"Do you ever get tired of shaming us. Befriending that boy of all people!"
"Hey back off buddy" krispin stood in front of me angrily "who the hell do you think you are. Insulting nova, hitting a girl. You really are scum of the earth"
"That's right" indigo stood beside him "hanako and nova are meant for each other. I won't let you get in the way of their love!"
"That's really not what's going on" I muttered awkwardly as Shane helped me back on my feet.
He stared at us before bursting out laughing "now I've seen it all. Clearly you brats are a bad influence on the lady" he helped her back on her feet "come lady hanako. Let us go home before you embarrass us further" with that he dragged her away.
"You just can't help yourself, can you nova?" shane lightly scolded me "just let them sort out their own family drama"
"Sorry I can't do that" I looked at the hakuta's back with a determined smile "I'm going to fix their relationship, no matter what it takes" I have to. Hanakos life is on the line.
"You're going so far to make her happy. Ah it's so romantic" she squealed.
"Again that's not what's happening" I blushed. Still it's not like I can tell her that hanakos life depends on them making up. Unfortunately I'll just have to let her think what she wants!
