The court went still as no one breathed but the next second, there were gasps. Real ones.

Absolutely nothing could make her panic the way she did. Could make her forget her facade, shatter it like ice broken by an axe, and blow it into the cold wind.

Just like that, the court shifted from laughter to shock, curiosity, and a few, dread, but Ravenna could no longer feel any emotion apart from emptiness.

And then came fear. It hit so hard that her shoulders used to support her weight slurred, and she didn't bother to stop herself from the shock electrifying her like lightning.

A-Alaric?

King Aldren climbed the last step of the dais, his robe pursuing after him as he whacked it dramatically, slumping in his chair like a man upholstered in velvet and wine.
