Night, at Muramasa's thatched hut.
"Done~!" Yoimiya, her yukata open and her upper body wrapped only in bandages, stretched with a satisfied look. Sticky sweat beaded on her skin, tracing every curve of her body. A few drops trickled down from her neck, following the line of her collarbone and pooling in the valley between the mountains.
"So why did you open it again…" Muramasa was clearly not used to this sight, but her unabashed demeanor made him feel a little petty.
"Because making this little thing is really hot! Not only am I sweating all over, but I don't have a change of clothes either," Yoimiya said, adding in a small voice, "Besides, there's no one else here."
Muramasa naturally heard her but didn't reply, instead saying, "And you're clearly wearing fewer bandages today, right? Is that okay?"
"Hm?" She looked down at her chest and realized the soaked bandages were faintly revealing the skin beneath. The temperature of her face suddenly soared. "I-it's fine... Do you have a bathroom here, Muramasa?" she stammered.
"Of course. Use it if you want." He replied, then added, "And, you should probably wear them properly next time. I'm a man too, you know."
These words were naturally heard by both girls.
"Does it bother you, Muramasa?" This time, it was Hailing who asked. Yoimiya had already vanished in a flash.
"Of course it does. And whether I look or not, my reputation will suffer." If I look, I'm a beast. If I don't, I'm less than a beast. A classic dilemma.
"Hehe…" Every time he made that pouting face, so different from his usual serious expression, Hailing couldn't help but laugh.
"By the way, are these glass beads considered finished?" Hailing picked up a fake Vision and examined it. From her angle, she couldn't see any flaws.
"For the most part. All that's left is the decoration. Every region is different, and the style is up to the user." Each nation had a different number of Vision holders, and they usually added standard decorations to their Visions. But there were always those who liked to be different, either preferring the style of another nation or having their own design.
"By the way, why did you think it would be difficult to fool them?" Hailing didn't understand Vision verification, but she was curious about Muramasa's line of thinking.
"I may not have a Vision, but if it were me..." He held a fake Vision in his hand and squeezed. A cracking sound was heard. "This would be one way, right? But I don't know how hard a Vision is, or if it's indestructible, so I don't know if this would work." If a Vision was as hard as a glass bead, or even more fragile, then this method was useless. This was the crudest method, but if an outsider like him could think of a way, then surely the Commission could too.
"But even so, you still helped Yoimiya make them," she said with a teasing smile, her motives not entirely pure.
"What are you thinking." Muramasa made a fist and gently knocked Hailing on the head with the soft part below his little finger. "As long as it's a commission, I will complete it, no matter what. Besides, the enforcer is different from the one who gives the order."
Hailing looked at him, clearly not understanding. Seeing this, Muramasa awkwardly averted his gaze. "The one who gives the order issues a decree, and that decree is a cold metric. But the enforcers are human. They will have their own judgment. I'm the same—I will complete every commission perfectly according to its literal meaning, but my specific actions will still depend on my own likes and dislikes."
"Oh…" Hailing looked as if she understood, but also didn't.
"In short," Muramasa pulled his hand back from her head. "Whether this bead is effective in the end will depend on the judgment of the person confiscating the Vision. But, it's much better than those idiots who resist with force. They might have been shown mercy, but if you openly defy the decree, then no matter how much the enforcer wants to spare you, they can't."
At that moment, a certain idiot was being dragged back to his base by his friends…
"I see. You really know a lot, Muramasa." Hailing stood up and looked at the sky outside. "It's getting late."
"Are you going back? I can walk you." Muramasa thought she was going home to rest and stood up as well. But then he remembered that Yoimiya was definitely staying the night at the village. Isn't she going back with her?
"No need. I'm just going to get a change of clothes. And a set for Yoimiya too," Hailing said as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"...So you're staying here again." Hearing her plan, Muramasa understood everything. There was no trace of surprise on his face.
"Well, your hut is so big, Muramasa. There's more than enough room for all of us." There were already four people staying in the house tonight, but it didn't seem to be at its limit.
"Don't be so unreasonable. Have you been getting more mischievous lately?"
"Have I? Maybe..."
The sounds of their lively chatter continued late into the night.
…
Inazuma City
Kujou Sara had been busy all day, leading her men to search for Vision holders throughout the city. Aside from a few under the Shogun's direct command, most of the well-known Vision holders in the city had already handed theirs over. The remaining few were either not in the city or were playing hide-and-seek with them.
"The resistance is stronger than expected…" Because it was the Shogun's order, Sara had subconsciously assumed that most people would comply. However, she hadn't expected that even within the Commission, several Vision holders would flee, or even defect. Many had been injured, but thankfully, nothing more serious had occurred.
"The city is full of gossip. They're starting to doubt the Shogun's orders…" A wavering of faith was not a good sign. Moreover, this was right under the Shogun's nose. There were many places far away where her control was weaker. Pushing the decree there would be even more difficult. And Watatsumi Island was out of the question. The Tenryou Commission had only sent one person to negotiate, with little hope of success. After the negotiations broke down, it would likely turn into a war.
Mobilization, troop deployment, grain transport, setting up depots… As the general, she had to be deeply involved in all of it, while also continuing to hunt down other Vision holders. She had already anticipated that she would not have a moment of peace for a long time to come.
Fortunately, she still had her Vision, and her faith in the Shogun had not wavered.
With that thought, Kujou Sara continued to read today's report and saw a familiar name.
"Not apprehended… Yoimiya. According to her father, she left Inazuma City on some business before the Vision Hunt Decree officially began. The reason given was to find a friend."
She had a pretty good idea where the girl was.
