In New York City, Uncle Nine stared at the pile of small yellow ingots before him—gold bars stacked so high they were the size of a human head. For a moment, he felt like he was living in a dream.
Those gold bars represented a lifetime's worth of earnings—money he could never have made on his own. Yet here they were, casually stacked before him as if it were nothing.
"T-this… how can I possibly accept this?" Lin Jiu coughed lightly, trying to say something polite in refusal—but the words just wouldn't come out.
Because Bai Ye had simply given too much.
"Mr. Lin, please accept it," Willy said with a mild smile. "This is a token of Mr. Bai's goodwill. The friendship between you two is worth far more than mere gold."
After three rounds of polite refusal and insistence, Lin Jiu finally accepted the gleaming bars before him.
Feeling the heavy weight in his hands—so heavy that even with his training he could barely hold it—Lin Jiu couldn't stop the grin tugging at his lips.
Carrying a box full of gold bars, he stepped outside with a dazed, floating gait, only to see Master Luo, Kanai Kunishima, and the others emerging as well, each looking equally thrilled with the gifts they'd received.
The group exchanged glances. In everyone's eyes shone the same barely suppressed joy.
But before anyone could speak, a thunderous explosion suddenly erupted from afar—so loud it shook the entire city.
Boom!
The group froze, looking up in confusion. They could tell the direction of the sound, but not what had caused it. From the noise alone, it was impossible to guess what had happened.
Tony Stark's expression changed immediately. "Jarvis, what was that explosion just now?"
"It was the sound of Mr. Bai Ye destroying the Empire State Building," Jarvis replied evenly—yet the words sent a jolt through Tony.
"You're telling me Bai Ye destroyed the Empire State Building? Is he insane?" Tony's eyes widened in disbelief.
He wasn't the only one—countless others across the world were equally stunned.
Nearby, Yue Buqun and the others turned their heads at the mention of Bai Ye, but Tony had no time to explain. "Where is Bai Ye now? What is he trying to do?"
"After destroying the Empire State Building, Mr. Bai is heading toward the White House," Jarvis reported calmly. "It appears he intends to start World War Three."
Each sentence from Jarvis struck Tony like a hammer blow. He simply couldn't comprehend Bai Ye's thought process.
"Mr. Stark," Kanai Kunishima asked softly, "did something happen to Mr. Bai Ye?"
Tony sighed helplessly and repeated everything Jarvis had just said. The room fell from shock into utter silence.
Even Yue Buqun, who'd spent months chatting online with modern people, understood how terrifying modern weapons were.
An entire sect like the Five Mountains Sword Alliance could be wiped out by a single modern battalion—never mind weapons designed solely for mass killing.
And yet, Bai Ye intended to take on the entire planet.
From the way he'd been joking and laughing with them earlier, it was clear this wasn't some long-planned scheme. He'd simply decided on a whim—and clearly didn't take humanity's weapons seriously at all.
As the others sat speechless in shock, Tony began frantically typing in the chat group.
[Playboy]: @DeepBlue, calm down, man. Don't do anything rash.
[Playboy]: @Let's talk this through, okay? Don't take it too far.
[DeepBlue]: It's not me who's being rash. It's humanity. I'm just helping them wake up a little.
[DeepBlue]: Don't worry. The death toll won't be too high. Compared to the last two world wars, this will be an acceptable price.
[DeepBlue]: Once they calm down and learn that when they speak to me, they should do it on their knees, I'll stop.
Tony stared blankly at the messages on screen. So you're beating up the entire world… to help it calm down? And somehow you're the victim here?
The others around him didn't even know what to say anymore. The man's logic was beyond comprehension.
Master Luo frowned. "This doesn't sound good. Should we… go back?"
Kanai Kunishima's eyes sparkled with excitement as she shook her head. "No way. I want to stay and see this for myself!"
To her, this was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness someone fighting the whole world. Her chūnibyō spirit was practically on fire.
"Let's stay," Lin Jiu sighed. "I want to try persuading Mr. Bai to stop—to spare more lives if he can."
"Mr. Bai has done me great kindness," Yue Buqun said solemnly. "I can't just stand by and do nothing."
Outside New York City, Bai Ye raced toward the White House. His speed was staggering—nearly a hundred meters per second—his figure a blur that vanished between blinks.
High above, emergency satellites tracked him relentlessly.
In Washington, Ellis's face had gone pale. "We must stop him before he reaches the White House," he ordered.
"Deploy every available military asset—right now! Do not let him reach Washington!"
Under the gaze of the entire world, the United States mobilized all its forces. Facing a single man whose power defied imagination, they chose to start at full force.
At S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, Nick Fury turned to the scientists. "What are the odds we can kill him?"
The researcher shook his head. "If he doesn't want to engage directly, none of our weapons can even touch him. Our weapons can't turn midair—but he can."
"Wait—he's stopped moving," Agent Hill suddenly said, eyes fixed on the satellite feed.
Everyone turned. On the screen, in the wilderness outside the city, Bai Ye had come to a halt. Dressed in pure white, he lifted his gaze toward the heavens—as if staring straight through the satellite lens at them.
"What's he doing?" Hill asked uncertainly.
"Doesn't matter," Fury growled. "He's stopped—send out the Sentry drones, now!"
"But Director," Coulson protested, "those prototypes aren't even finished. It's barely been a month—we haven't even finalized the theory behind them."
"We don't have time for that," Fury snapped. "Deploy everything we've got. If we lose this fight, the whole world is finished."
Only Fury truly understood the scale of Bai Ye's power.
He'd personally covered up the incident at Stryker's base; hardly anyone else knew what Bai Ye was capable of.
That ignorance had led the global governments to underestimate him—and now, this was the price.
Meanwhile, Bai Ye stood tall upon the earth, waiting quietly.
At his speed, reaching the White House would take less than five minutes. That left him fifty-five minutes to play.
Arms crossed, eyes half closed, his long black hair rippled in the wind like the mane of a slumbering demon god.
Twenty minutes later, his eyes opened slightly, and he looked into the distance.
More than ten kilometers away, a fighter jet was approaching fast—carrying several massive gray-black humanoid figures.
As the jet dropped its cargo, Bai Ye's eyes flashed with mild surprise.
"Didn't expect the first ones to reach the battlefield… to be the Sentries."
