"Let S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra fully join forces—to resist Bai Ye."As he spoke, Fury slid a paper document toward Pierce.

"Here, these are all yours now. Handle them however you want."
"Try not to get too many people killed. If things get out of hand, call me."Kingpin added casually, then stood and walked out.
"Wait—you're both just leaving?" Stark stared at them, dumbfounded.
"Why wouldn't we? You've been appointed. If things fall apart now, it's on you. We have other things to do."Rodriguez smiled faintly. Bai Ye had just taken the throne—problems were everywhere—and they had been worrying no one was available to take the blame.
"What could be more important than the security of the planet?" Stark asked.
"Plenty. We're researching how to best serve Mr. Bai. If he becomes unhappy, all your governance can be overturned with a single sentence from him."
Kingpin said matter-of-factly. Then he turned to Rodriguez: "So, you'll talk to General Ross. I'll speak with Director George."
"No problem." Rodriguez mirrored his smile.
Seeing Stark frozen in place, Kingpin said:
"If you have complaints about our behavior, feel free to tell Mr. Bai. I'll explain personally."
'Explain my ass,' Stark fumed internally.
Bai Ye, running a full "monarch offline system," couldn't care less about what his subordinates were doing.Report them for dereliction of duty?The most Stark would get is a scolding:
"Don't bother me with stupid problems like that. They can do whatever they want."
Staring at the towering stack of documents in front of him, Stark felt his scalp go numb.He was seriously regretting ever accepting this mess—wasn't being a playboy better?
"How long do you think he'll last?"Outside the room, Kingpin asked casually.
"No idea. Three days, maybe."
"I'm guessing one night at most."
