Chapter 226 - Low Maintenance

When Nifuji brought Narumi, no one said much, and the HR department just quickly did the process, as they knew that he could fire them. He was in the top position and owned a large share of the company, but those employees were replaceable.

All of them, the employees, had been turned into generalists, who could do anything, which was practically a jack of all trades, but at the same time, they were masters of none, so even if one disappeared, the others could quickly replace them, like how a broken cog was replaced by a new or used one.

Frankly, Nifuji felt sorry for them. If the company went bankrupt, they would have no other choice and no other skills. The company had ruined them, leaving them unable to fully live.

Be special, this is how it should become, having a single skill that could make them able to live, like how people in the past, like a blacksmith, or a warrior was able to live by using their skills, but in this country, there was a saying, "A nail that sticks out will be hammered," so he knew that their difficulty was extremely high.

It was easy for him, as he had the system, but it was different for others, as they had nothing, but if they had good parents, partners, or talents, then he believed that they could do the same. Since instead of rotting inside a company where they were expected to take the work of the 80% incompetent, holding everyone up, crushed by the expectations and unbelievable workload, then when they messed up, they were discarded, or even worse, forced to take the responsibility for others' mess, then kicked out of the company due to nepotism, he might as well just quit the company, as he had a better company to go to.

Still, Nifuji knew that he got the freedom that he wanted, but at the same time, as he got the freedom, it also meant that he got all the burdens that were usually hidden.

Whether it was bills, taxes, and all the other things that are usually hidden, it was all exposed, and he knew that he had to take care of all of them by himself, and frankly, as everything was his responsibility, he knew that he didn't have a break, as a break meant that he wouldn't get anything.

Still, this was also fair.

The harder he worked, the more he gained, but then again, if he didn't work, then he would get nothing.

Working for others might give him stability and peace of mind, but only if he followed the right people.

What if he followed the wrong person?

Even if he had a regret, nothing could be done, as he had lost his everything, whether it was his youth, ability to learn, stamina, or even energy, but now?

Nifuji still had a chance.

He had a chance to change everything, which was why he was working, and when the women saw his drive, they all knew they hadn't chosen the wrong person, following him closely, as they didn't want to be left behind by him.

"You are coming here, huh, Narumi?"

Koyanagi let out a helpless sigh as she looked at Narumi, who followed Nifuji.

"You are not fair, Hana-chan! Why didn't you tell me that he worked here?!" Narumi fumed, feeling annoyed and quite betrayed as Koyanagi made the first move.

"You are the one who lacked the initiative. Don't blame me if you are being left behind by him."

"....."

As Koyanagi rolled her eyes, Narumi could only show a wry laugh since she knew that she was a passive one, but what could she do?

Her previous experience of a romance wasn't good, and frankly, she felt an intense regret that she couldn't be with Nifuji for the first time.

'If I dated him first...?'

Would Nifuji even think to date others?

If they dated first, and with their childhood friend relationship, Narumi knew that Nifuji would be with her, but unfortunately, in the past, she had never thought of Nifuji as an option, someone, who she would date, since frankly... who would date a gloomy otaku?

Moreover, with how young she was, she cared about the vibe and excitement since, despite being a BL lover, she was a normal woman, and naturally, she cared about where she was standing within society.

Yes, she was shallow, and she was wrong for it, but wasn't that also the reason why Nifuji had never thought of her as his main lover?

Instead of Narumi, Nifuji chose someone who was stable enough, and frankly, among all of the women that he could choose from, he would probably choose Fuji if logically, he was asked who would be his wife legitimately.

Why did he do so?

Yes, Nifuji knew that he was cold, but for the "face," especially when he would be in a business, Fuji was a famous writer, and she also had no scandals, as she just stayed at home most of the time.

More importantly, she was smart, or rather, she was the smartest as she chose to buy an apartment directly where she lived instead of squander it when she got her royalty. Her education was top-notch: she graduated from one of the leading universities and often served as a guest lecturer.

Her age might be a little older, yet she was a virgin, and her virginity was taken by him.

Some of the others might have had their virginity taken by him, but he knew well that they weren't mature enough.

Lastly, Fuji had low maintenance.

His work was busy, and he didn't really want drama, so having someone who could be comfortable, sitting side by side, enjoying the peaceful moment after a rough and exhausting workday might be wonderful, he thought.

When Koyanagi and Narumi discussed his working life, and they planned to become his working wife, Nifuji knew that, despite how wrong it was, he had made his choice for his future, but then again, if he chose someone else?

If he just chose one among them, and decided to break up with the others, just one, one woman, how would it be?

Nifuji didn't know, and he wasn't sure, but for one thing, there was probably a chance that in the future, there would be chapters on how he would choose from a single woman, but before that, let's settle how he should handle this harem first.
