Chapter 1 - Chosen

Author's note: OC's will appear in this story. You have been warned.

----------------------

The last thing he remembers was being in his room deep in thought about the world and where it was going and it wasn't good. The world itself was filled with corruption, wickedness, bad people, and more flaws that make living in that world depressing and stressful. It felt dystopian in a way and he didn't like that. While he knew Earth wasn't a perfect place, he never imagined it would get worse, way worse. Well, it got even worse and it kept getting worse as the days went on. He hoped and dreamed of a better world, but it was something Zach would never get. He missed the days when he was a kid, wishing to be like the heroes in stories, viewing the world as this wonderful place without a care in the world. He misses those days. Unfortunately, those days are long gone and are never coming back. But he can worry about the world on a later date because right now he finds himself in a strange void. He was suddenly pulled into this void by a portal that opened up above him and pulled him through. He was just floating aimlessly in this void as he looked around, trying to figure out what happened. He then hears a voice.

"You have been chosen." An ethereal voice said.

"What?" Zach mumbled, wondering who said that.

From the void, a swirling energy wraps around his body before he feels a pain in his lower back. He then feels something pop out causing him to look behind him and he sees a brown fur tail which surprises him. He then watched as his vision went completely white before his vision returned and he was standing somewhere new. He looked around and saw twelve stones with celestial orbs hovering above them. Wherever he was, it was a colorful void. He then hears a voice behind him, and it sounds professional.

"Greetings, Champion." The voice said.

Zach looked over his shoulder and saw a short man with blue skin and white hair. He wore a blue outfit and had a blue halo-like ring behind his head.

"Um, hi?" Zach said, unsure what to do or say.

"I assume you have a great many questions regarding your current predicament." The man said.

"That's one way to put it." Zach replied. "Who are you?"

"I am the Grand Minister, advisor to the Omni King who is the ruler of the Multiverse." Grand Minister said.

"Multiverse? That's a thing?" Zach asked with wide eyes.

"Certainly." Grand Minister answered. "Though it isn't quite as infinite as mortal theories claim it to be."

Zach once again looked around.

"Where am I?" Zach asked.

"You are in the Omni King's domain just outside of his palace." Grand Minister answered.

"Why am I here?" Zach asked.

"The Omni King had received a vision of a great danger to the Multiverse he rules over." Grand Minister said. "Unfortunately, his vision wasn't clear so we can only speculate but he and I saw it wise to summon a champion to prevent this catastrophe he had foreseen. That champion, is you."

"Not to sound rude, but what makes you think I'm multiverse saving material?" Zach asked. "Also how did I even get here?"

"To answer your question, I used the Super Dragon Balls to summon you. The dragon must believe you are the most adequate candidate for this task, however as you are now you would be hopeless in your mission." Grand Minister said. "However, with some proper training, I imagine you could become one of the Multiverse's greatest."

"Okay." Zach mumbled, trying to absorb all of this.

"However, I wouldn't dare force this upon someone. You have a choice in this. If you decide not to help us, we can use the Super Dragon Balls once more to send you home. But if you agree to become Zeno's Champion, there will be much training ahead of you." Grand Minister said. "However, you won't be able to return to your home dimension."

Hearing this gave him multiple reactions. When he heard he had a choice he was glad but then when he heard about the fact that if he accepts the role, he won't be able to go home. There isn't much to go back to so he wouldn't be losing much. His parents are no longer around and any semblance of family he has left is gone. He thinks about it. The kid in him saw this as an opportunity to become the hero he always wanted to be.

"So, will you take up the mantle and become Zeno's champion?" Grand Minister asked.

Zach gave it some extra thought before letting out a sigh.

"Alright, I'll do it." Zach said.

"Excellent!" Grand Minister said, clearly pleased. "The first order of business is your level of skill in combat."

"Well, I have some Martial Arts training but it's not perfect." Zach answered. "Just the basics."

"Well, that won't do, but fret not. I know someone who can get you into fighting shape." Grand Minister said. "I already sent word to them before your summoning so they should be here soon."

"I'm here!" A voice called out.

Grand Minister turns to look behind him and saw a tall man in a burgundy robe, a black cuirass with white and orange diamond decorations and a blue sash. He also wears black high-heeled shoes with long toes resembling winklepickers with white spats. He had the same blue skin and white hair as Grand Minister and also had a blue ring around his head.

"Whis, right on time." Grand Minister greets.

Whis notices Zach's presence and grows intrigued.

"Sorry I couldn't come sooner; I was busy handling other affairs in Universe 7." Whis said.

"All is well, Whis." Grand Minister said. "But on the matter on why I called you here."

"Does it have something to do with the Saiyan standing beside you?" Whis asked.

"Saiyan?" Zach asked. "I'm not a Saiyan."

"You're not?" Whis asked. "You look very Saiyan to me."

"He's Human, or well was, I summoned him here with the Super Dragon Balls on the Omni King's behalf." Grand Minister said.

"What for?"

"Zeno has received a vision, and he foresees a great catastrophe that we both seek to prevent. So, I used the Super Dragon Balls to bring forth a candidate to be Zeno's Champion, and he accepted his new role." Grand Minister explains.

"A Mortal as the Omni King's Champion." Whis repeats to himself. "This will surely cause many Gods of Destruction and other beings to get jealous, father."

"I've thought about that, which is why this must stay between us and those we can trust to keep their mouths shut." Grand Minister said with a serious tone before it returned to his regular tone. "Now onto why I called you, I figured this candidate would need training and I was right."

"So, you seek for me to train the Omni King's Champion?" Whis asks for confirmation.

"Yes." Grand Minister confirms.

Whis spared a quick glance at Zach, his smile never faltering for even a second as he quickly sizes up our human turned Saiyan. He then returns his attention to Grand Minister.

"Very well." Whis said. "Though it will be a significant amount of work required to get him into proper shape."

"I imagined much." Grand Minister said. "Take as much time as you need, but remember, only those who can keep their mouths shut must know about the mortal being the Omni King's champion."

Whis nods as the Grand Minister realized something.

"Oh, I'm sorry I never got your name." Grand Minister said, looking at Zach.

"My name is Zach, Zach Taylor." Zach introduced.

"Well, it was nice to meet you, Zach." Grand Minister said before turning back to Whis. "Well, I have other things I must attend to, I entrust him in your care, Whis."

With that the Grand Minister walks away while Whis turns to our protagonist.

"Come, once we return to Universe 7, your training shall commence." Whis informs.

Whis turns, walking away and Zach follows him. The two of them are walking towards a new figure in the distance with a colorful outfit.

"So what will this training entail?" Zach asked.

"First, we need to get you adept at using your Ki." Whis answers.

"Ki?"

"It is your latent energy or fighting power, this force is a tangible energy inside every living being, with it's major focus being in the center of the body." Whis explains. "By drawing it out of the body, an individual is capable of manipulating it to preform various feats of strength and power. For your training to truly commence, you'll need to grasp the concept of Ki and be able to use it in battle."

"Okay, I think I get it." Zach mumbles.

"However, my kind of training might be too intense for someone without a basic understanding of Ki, but don't worry I have already thought it out." Whis informs.

They reach the new figure who seems polite and professional similar to Grand Minister and Whis.

"Whis, what did the Grand Minister require of you?" The figure asked.

"I'll inform you back on the Sacred world of the Kais." Whis said. "It has something to do with this mortal here."

The figure looked at Zach and was surprised when he saw a tail.

"A Saiyan?" The figure asked.

"Why does everyone keep calling me that?" Zach asked.

The figure got confused by this reaction, but Whis stepped in.

"We can discuss this later, for now, we must leave." Whis said.

"Right." The figure said.

Suddenly, the surrounding environment changes to a beautiful valley on a planet. A large tree also stood near them and a much older figure noticed them and began walking towards them while Zach was processing what happened.

"You're back." The Older Figure said. "What did the Grand Minister need you for?"

"This mortal here is the Omni King's Chosen." Whis reveals to them.

This confused them both before Whis broke it down to them, explaining that Zach was chosen to be The Omni King's Champion to defend the Multiverse from a catastrophe that he had foreseen. He then told them that the champion in question needed to be trained in order to fulfill his mission. Both figures begin to digest this information separately before speaking.

"This… could get bad if word got out." The Older figure said.

"Which is why we tell few people, only those who can keep their mouths shut and only those who we deem needs to know." Whis said.

"Very well." The Older Figure said.

"Who are these two?" Zach asked, looking at Whis.

"These two are the Kais of Universe 7. Kibito Kai and Elder Kai." Whis introduces as he gestured to each person.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, young man." Elder Kai said.

"Likewise." Zach said.

"Now that introductions are out of the way, onto the next order of business." Whis said. "Due to the intensity of my typical training, I have deemed it necessary for him to be trained here by you two given his limited experience with combat and zero experience with Ki."

Kibito Kai was surprised but Elder Kai didn't react.

"I take it once we're done, he'll go train with you?" Elder Kai asked.

"Correct." Whis said. "Also, I find it wise to not reveal his other dimensional origins to anyone besides those we can trust. You'll need to come up with a cover story."

"I'm sure we can come up with something." Elder Kai said.

"Very well, good luck in training him then." Whis said before he departed.

Once he was gone, Zach look at the two people who would be his trainers.

"So, what's first?" Zach asked.

"First, we need to get you accustomed to Ki." Elder Kai said. "It will be instrumental for your growth; without it you won't be able to complete your mission as Zeno's Champion."

"Alright, how do we do that?" Zach asked.
