Chapter 55 - Under the Halo, in the Ashes

Amidst the roar of the engine, Blonsky drove at high speed, the scenery on either side blurring past. Two reporters were in the car with him; the male reporter, Tom, held a camera with a focused expression, while the female reporter, Lisa, sat in the front seat, dressed in a fitted suit that accentuated her curves, paired with a slightly slit skirt. She occasionally glanced in the rearview mirror, lightly brushed a strand of hair that had fallen by her ear, a subtle hint in her eyes.

The car stopped beside Mr. Dominic, and Lisa immediately got out, while Tom raised his camera and aimed it at Mr. Dominic. Once they were standing, Lisa raised her microphone and asked in a sweet yet subtly probing tone, "Mr. Dominic, your actions just now were truly astonishing! As our Guardian, could you share what motivates you to perform such heroic deeds?"

Mr. Dominic slightly raised his chin, a confident smile appearing at the corner of his mouth, and slowly said, "I am your Guardian. Your safety is the responsibility on my shoulders." His voice was low and firm, filled with an air of invincible confidence, as if the World was already in his grasp. "Anyone who dares to challenge peace will feel the justice I bring."

Lisa's face showed admiration, and she quickly followed up, "So you fight for everyone, even for the country?" Her tone held a hint of excitement, and her eyes sparkled with admiration for this superhero.

Mr. Dominic raised a hand, signaling her to pause briefly, the arrogant smile still on his face. "Of course, I fight for the country, for everyone who supports me." He chuckled softly, as if everything was under his control. "Only I am qualified to be the Guardian of this country. You can rest assured, with me here, any threat is insignificant."

In front of the camera, Mr. Dominic's confident and inscrutable expression was captivating, as if every word he spoke was imbued with an innate sense of control and a cool, heroic demeanor.

Mr. Dominic lowered his head slightly, glancing coldly at Ivan lying on the ground, then raised his hand and pointed at him, his voice low but full of deterrence. "You see? This kind of person is what's called 'evil'. He wants to use meaningless destruction and chaos to make you afraid, to make you yield." Mr. Dominic paused, a slight smile on his face, though there was no warmth in his eyes. "But I will not allow such existence to pollute our World."

The moment Mr. Dominic's words fell, the surrounding reporters swarmed in like sharks smelling blood, camera flashes going off one after another, blinding beams of light focused on his face, making him appear like a towering statue. More and more media arrived at the scene, crowding together, vying to extend their microphones, repeatedly asking, "Mr. Dominic! Look here!" "What is your definition of justice?" "Mr. Dominic, would you like to say a few more words to the public?"

One of the newly arrived reporters was pushed by a colleague in front of him and nearly fell, his microphone slipping from his hand and flying into the air. A nearby reporter kindly helped, neatly kicking the microphone back to him, but muttered with a hint of sarcasm, "Justice, huh? This scene of scrambling for news is really exciting."

Another older reporter stood at the back of the crowd, sighing with a playful smile on his face, as if lamenting, "It seems that the so-called 'justice', as long as it has a gimmick, will not lack an audience." He shook his head and raised his camera, his eyes filled with a sense of absurd self-mockery.

As Mr. Dominic continued speaking, the reporters also adjusted their equipment. Many, while busy setting up, couldn't help but whisper to their colleagues with a hint of teasing, "What a show, the hero's speech and the emotional performance are non-stop." "Be quiet! He's our country's 'Guardian'!"

Lisa's eyes were full of excitement, fixed on Mr. Dominic with a slightly infatuated smile, and she cautiously asked, "Mr. Dominic, does a hero like you have a name that we can remember and praise?"

Mr. Dominic smiled slightly, raised his thumb, revealing his white teeth, a hint of arrogance and confidence in his eyes. His relaxed posture and calm expression made the surrounding reporters hold their breath, afraid of missing this "great" moment.

He cleared his throat, his gaze scanning the surroundings deeply, his voice low and powerful. "'Homelander'." His tone seemed to declare an unshakable authority, pride in his eyes, as if this title was not just a name, but a symbol of his supreme identity.

"I am Homelander, not just an ordinary title." He continued, his tone firm, with a subtle hint of deterrence. "This name represents strength, protection, and fearless determination. Because in this World, only I am qualified and capable of truly defending this land."

Mr. Dominic paused briefly, a cold light flashing in his eyes, and continued, "When you think of 'Homelander', you should understand that this is not just the name of a hero, but the embodiment of justice. A name that can make anyone who dares to threaten our peace tremble." He slightly curled the corner of his mouth, with an unquestionable confidence, as if every word carried an invisible weight.

The reporters immediately erupted. Lisa couldn't help but tremble slightly, bringing the microphone closer to Mr. Dominic, excitedly asking, "Then, as 'Homelander', will you continue to fight for us?"

Mr. Dominic nodded slightly, his voice low but certain, "I will not only fight, but I will also make you understand that justice will not be challenged, and 'Homelander' will always be behind you, protecting your future."

As soon as the reporters heard Mr. Dominic confidently refer to himself as "Homelander," they immediately rushed to ask questions, microphones surging towards him like a tide—

"Mr. Dominic, does the title 'Homelander' mean you will fight for every ordinary person?"

"How do you view the voices that question you, the criticism that you are too overbearing?"

"Will you continue to conduct similar actions in the future to protect public safety?"

A cold smile appeared at the corner of Mr. Dominic's mouth. He slightly raised his hand, signaling everyone to calm down, his gaze like a knife sweeping over the questions, answering with unquestionable confidence, "'Homelander' does not need to explain, only to act. My responsibility is to protect, not to cater to voices of doubt." He paused slightly, continuing coolly and proudly, "This country needs strength, true strength. And I am the one who brings that strength."

His voice was low and carried an irresistible deterrence, as if one sentence could silence the entire scene.

Just as every word of Mr. Dominic's could spark new questions and inquiries from the reporters.

"Below the stage"

Ivan, on the other hand, seemed to have been completely forgotten by everyone, kneeling on the ground in a sorry state, covered in the dust and oil residue from the battle. The arrogance that was originally on his face had long been replaced by fear. He tried to struggle to his feet, but found that countless eyes were fixed on Mr. Dominic, completely ignoring his existence.

Ivan struggled to lift his head, his eyes filled with humiliation and unwillingness, his lips slightly trembling, as if he wanted to say something. However, the flashes and spotlights completely cast him into the shadows, as if he was just an insignificant passerby, having lost the strength to fight back, without even a chance to defend himself.

Finally, a listless, bitter smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. He completely understood: he was not the one who would be remembered. The one who would always be the focus of the entire scene, high above everyone else, would forever be the "Homelander."
