Early morning.
Sunlight streamed through the curtains into the room, falling on Dominic's face. He slowly opened his eyes and glanced at Daisy Lewis beside him on the pillow. She was curled up in the quilt, her breathing steady, her sleeping face peaceful. Dominic's ears twitched slightly, hearing a faint sound of laughter and dog barking from outside.
He quietly got up, skillfully dressed, pushed open the door, and walked towards the sound. In the warehouse's common area, Eric was sitting at a makeshift table, eating a piece of toast smothered in peanut butter. At his feet was a lively puppy with ears pricked up straight, the Shiba Inu puppy "Chirp" that Daisy had brought back a few days ago. Eric was teasing the puppy, using the edge of his toast to entice it, but not letting it easily bite.
"You want this? Huh? Come on, come on, little guy! Jump a little higher!"
Eric raised the toast with a mischievous grin. Chirp jumped hard several times, finally reaching a corner of the toast, happily snatching it and running off.
Eric burst out laughing, then turned and saw Dominic standing nearby. He waved and said, "Yo, morning! Looking like that, are you leaving?"
Dominic nodded, his tone indifferent: "S.H.I.E.L.D. is here, they're outside now."
Eric was startled, his face flushed slightly, then he cursed: "These guys! We haven't settled the score with them for the last time! Always interfering, and they don't understand anything, annoying!"
Chirp nearby heard Eric's voice and tilted its head, staring at him as if completely confused why its owner was so angry, but its tail was still wagging happily.
Dominic ignored Eric's cursing and walked straight to the warehouse door, pushed open the iron gate, and was met by Coulson's face, which always wore a friendly smile.
"Good morning, Dominic," Coulson said, raising his hand in greeting while subtly adjusting his tie. "It was quite lively last night. Our satellites and all signal devices were completely out, which was strange. Could I ask - what exactly happened here?"
Dominic had his hands in his pockets, his expression calm, and spoke in an understated tone: "Thor's business."
Coulson raised an eyebrow, the professional curve of his smile still in place, but clearly showing some curiosity: "It seems you don't plan to reveal more details."
Dominic glanced at him indifferently: "If you want to know something, ask Thor. He talks more than I do."
Coulson shrugged, seemingly having anticipated such a response. He changed the subject, his tone light: "Have you heard what Captain America has been busy with lately? He's gotten particularly close to Sam Wilson. As his most loyal fan, it makes me a little... well, I wouldn't say jealous, just curious."
Dominic smiled slightly, asking with a hint of teasing: "Jealous? Coulson, I've never seen such a loyal 'fan'."
Coulson's smile froze for a moment, then he spread his hands with a wry smile: "Jealous? No, no, that's friendly competition between fans. I just feel that Captain America has been acting mysterious lately, which isn't like him."
Dominic shook his head and said in a relaxed tone: "Don't worry, Captain America is an upright person. Whatever he and Sam are busy with, I can guarantee he won't do anything that would disappoint you."
Coulson sighed with a bitter smile: "Yeah, I know I should trust him, but sometimes... forget it, maybe that's just a fan's obsession."
Malibu cliff.
Tony Stark held a can of cola in one hand, casually shaking it, his eyes fixed straight ahead, as if lost in thought. He slowly took a sip of cola, the corner of his mouth slightly raised, but the smile didn't seem very sincere.
"Jarvis," Tony asked casually, his voice carrying a hint of weariness, "Still can't reach Dominic?"
Jarvis's voice came from above the room, with his usual calm and composed tone: "I'm sorry, Mr., Mr. Dominic's equipment still has no signal. I have tried all known frequencies, and the result is the same - but I must say, he is indeed not an ordinary person."
Tony's eyebrow raised slightly, just about to say something, when Jarvis's tone suddenly became tinged with a rare excitement: "However, I must add, he has arrived now."
Tony suddenly sat up straight, his eyes lighting up: "He's here?"
As soon as he finished speaking, sunlight streamed in from the living room door, accompanied by a gentle breeze. Dominic walked in from the doorway, his white shirt slightly reflective, as if it had its own filter. He casually waved, a faintly sarcastic smile on his face: "Stark, the welcome ceremony at your place is really... simple. Didn't anyone tell me if you had the champagne ready?"
Tony stood up, his mouth twitched, and he pointed to the cola in his hand: "Champagne? Sorry, we're drinking soft drinks today. Cut the crap - Pepper said you were coming, I really didn't expect you to come all the way here."
Dominic walked to the sofa, sat down casually, one leg resting on the other, his eyes full of playfulness: "I came to see what Pepper meant by you having a bit of... post-war syndrome lately?"
Tony was stunned for a moment, the cola can in his hand shook slightly. He pursed his lips, as if brewing something, but couldn't say it. He simply used another way to cover up the awkwardness, gently pouting: "New York War, you know, there are always some after-effects. I mean, alien army, post-war wreckage, maybe it was too 'visually shocking'. Oh, right, thanks for taking care of Killian, that guy, you did me a big favor."
Dominic heard the name "Killian" and his expression instantly became disdainful: "That guy? Honestly, Stark, he wasn't even a worthy opponent. At most, he was a lunatic controlled by his own ambition and the Extremis Virus."
Tony blinked, looking at Dominic's nonchalant expression, and suddenly felt a little envious. He leaned on the armrest of the sofa, his gaze somewhat complex: "I really envy your personality, you don't have to worry about anything at all, and you don't feel the burden of responsibility on yourself, do you?"
Dominic smiled slightly, waved his hand, and said with a hint of teasing: "What you think is easy is actually you thinking too much. Responsibility, in essence, is never something we actively take on, but something that cowardly, incompetent people willingly dump on us. If you feel like you have to solve every problem every time, then just wait to be dragged down by them."
Tony was stunned for a moment, and couldn't help but whistle: "Wow, famous quotes, that's really you." He paused, then tilted his head to the ceiling, "Jarvis, record that. I'll learn to say it later."
Jarvis's voice immediately cut in, with his unique mechanical humor: "Recorded, Mr.. That statement indeed has a certain philosophical depth. I can even give an example: Captain America might find this statement jarring, but he might not be able to refute it."
Hearing this, Tony suddenly burst out laughing, his shoulders shaking slightly: "Oh, come on, Jarvis, Captain America would probably throw his shield and hit my face if he heard that. But, Dominic, you really have a way with words. Let me guess, do you have more of these 'life philosophies' ready to share?"
Dominic just shrugged, a meaningful smile on his face, without directly answering.
Tony leaned on the armrest of the sofa, his fingers gently tapping the cola can, his eyes thoughtful. He looked up at Dominic, his tone somewhat probing: "Speaking of Captain America, I've heard some strange news lately. Do you know what he's been busy with? Or is he being as mysterious as you?"
The corners of Dominic's mouth curved slightly, his hands crossed behind his back on the sofa: "What do you think?"
Tony raised an eyebrow and continued talking to himself: "Recently, I met a guy named Sam Wilson, quite interesting. He's getting along well with Captain America. Just two or three days ago, they quietly came to me and asked me to help improve a flight wing device. To be honest, at first I thought they were trying something new, but then I had Jarvis check it out, and it turned out that thing was a Military secret project."
Jarvis's voice immediately sounded in the room: "Indeed, Mr.. According to existing data, the device belongs to a Military research and development project codenamed 'Falcon Project', designed for aerial combat."
Tony shrugged, putting on a helpless expression: "You're telling me Captain America is on some mysterious mission and doesn't even tell me. Come on, I'm the one who built the armor, why not just let me join? Since that's the case, I guess you don't know either, right?"
Dominic leaned on the sofa, silent, a subtle flicker in his eyes. He did know more, even more than what Tony and Jarvis had dug up. His mind quickly sifted through clues about the "Falcon Project" and Sam Wilson, clearly related to Captain America's recent activities.
Seeing Dominic silent, Tony waved his hand, his tone mockingly relaxed: "Forget it, I knew you wouldn't have the answer either. After all, Captain America doesn't even tell me, who else could know more than him?"
Dominic glanced at Tony, but a hidden depth was in his eyes. He chuckled inwardly, thinking perhaps it was time to go see Captain America.
