Chapter 126 - The Storm Arrives

Minique and Natasha landed steadily on the deck of the space carrier, where Steve and Sam were already waiting. The deck was empty, but the roar of engines and the occasional flashing red warning lights indicated that they had entered Hydra's control range.

Steve gripped his shield tightly, his eyes scanning the surroundings warily: "It's too quiet here. Hydra never lets us have it this easy."

"They might be waiting to greet us," Natasha said softly, checking her pistol magazine, a hint of familiar sarcasm in her voice. "You know, they like to put on a show."

Dominic pointed to a hatch on the other side of his nail plate: "The core control room should be over there. How do you plan to get in? By force, or should I clear the area for you?"

Sam stepped forward and patted the flight wing device on his back: "I can scout the situation above and see if there's a way around it."

Steve nodded. "Okay, Sam, you go upstairs and find the way. We'll go in this way." His voice carried an undeniable decisiveness, but his gaze swept over Dominic. "However, we might need you to be at the front. There are more enemies here than we thought."

"Of course." Dominic's lips curled into a smile, his tone nonchalant. "I'm here to clean up the trash, aren't I?"

Sam deployed his wings, took off, and quickly disappeared into the metal structure above. Steve was the first to walk towards the hatch, shield in hand, leaning slightly forward, ready to face any sudden attack.

As soon as they approached the hatch, the surrounding lights suddenly turned a blinding red, accompanied by a cold, mechanical voice: "Intruder warning, activate defense system."

The concealment devices on the deck activated instantly, and automatic turrets rose from every corner, their dark muzzles pointing at them, then unleashing a barrage of fire. Bullets rained down upon them.

Steve raised his shield, blocking the incoming fire. Natasha rolled to the side, using the metal box as cover, and precisely fired at a critical point of a turret, causing it to short-circuit and explode. Dominic stood still, raising a hand and casually deflecting an incoming bullet. The bullet was deflected by an invisible force the instant it reached him, falling to the ground with a crisp clink.

"These little gadgets are supposed to be a defense system?" Dominic scoffed, a crimson glint in his eyes. With a wave of his hand, a scorching energy wave swept across the deck, instantly melting all the automatic turrets into pools of molten metal, emitting smoky fumes.

Witnessing this, Steve murmured, "Sometimes, I really envy your efficiency."

"That's because you're too bound by the rules," Dominic replied with a sneer, walking toward the hatch. "Rules are for ordinary people, not for us."

The hatch opened automatically, revealing a narrow metal corridor. Red warning lights flashed overhead, and the sound of orderly footsteps could be heard in the distance.

Natasha stepped out from behind the cover and said softly, "Hydra soldiers are here. It seems we've finally gotten their attention."

"Then let them pay close attention." Dominic said, walking in front without turning his head. "You guys stay close, I don't want to waste time."

At the end of the corridor, a squad of fully armed Hydra soldiers rapidly approached, wielding advanced plasma weapons, their eyes radiating a cold, disciplined indifference. Upon seeing Dominic, they opened fire without hesitation, blue-white beams instantly filling the entire corridor.

Dominic raised his hand to block the incoming beam of light. The energy was deflected the moment it touched him, striking the ray emitter and causing a violent explosion. Hydra soldiers were thrown back by the shockwave, some even crashing into the walls with a thud.

"Boring," Dominic muttered, his figure vanishing from his spot in an instant, reappearing in the center of the enemy ranks. With lightning speed, he flipped one soldier over, then smashed another soldier's helmet with a punch, slamming him into the wall.

Steve and Natasha followed behind, quickly eliminating the remaining enemies. Steve parried an attack with his shield, then with a graceful throw, knocked down the last soldier who tried to resist. Natasha, meanwhile, swiftly subdued two enemies with her stun gun, before elegantly straightening up and wiping her hands.

"We need to speed things up." Steve glanced at the enemies on the ground, his tone tinged with urgency. "Hydra's core control room won't let us get close so easily."

Dominic walked ahead, his steps steady: "They can try to stop us."

Dominic continued forward, his steps steady as if he were taking a stroll, showing no sign of tension. Steve followed closely behind, shield in hand, remaining alert, while Natasha kept a safe distance, her pistol pointed in all directions, ready to respond to any unexpected situation.

At the end of the corridor stood a heavy metal door, its surface covered with intricate electrical circuitry, seemingly connected to some kind of high-tech locking system. Multiple surveillance cameras were mounted on the walls on either side of the door, their lenses constantly rotating, clearly having already captured their presence.

"Dominic, this door doesn't look like a normal isolation door," Steve said in a low voice, his eyes scanning the patterns on the door. "We're probably close to the core control room."

"Then there's even less need to waste time," Dominic replied coldly, raising a hand with a faint glow of energy emanating from his fingertips. With a slight movement of his fingers, the originally complex metal door emitted a grating scraping sound, then slowly cracked open as if being torn apart by an invisible hand.

Natasha raised an eyebrow, a hint of sarcasm in her voice: "Such a simple and crude way to open the door. Did you even consider that there might be a trap behind it?"

"Then let the trap come to me." Dominic glanced at her sideways, a slight smile playing on his lips. "You can observe from behind."

Once the door opened fully, a huge circular room was revealed. In the center of the room floated a massive, transparent sphere that emitted a faint blue light. Inside the sphere, countless data streams flowed continuously, resembling a living neural network. Numerous displays were mounted on the surrounding walls, constantly switching between satellite images and data streams from around the world.

The Hydra soldiers inside the room were clearly already waiting for their arrival. Dozens of fully armed soldiers stood around the room, their weapons pointed at the entrance, their gazes cold and focused.

"Welcome to the core control room of Project Insight." A deep, mechanical voice came from above the room. Everyone looked up and saw a middle-aged man in a black combat uniform standing on a high platform, his face serious and his eyes revealing a cold confidence.

"I am Herman Strauss, the executive officer of Hydra," the man said slowly, his voice echoing in the room. "Your resistance is futile. Project Insight has been activated, and the threats to the world will be completely eliminated within minutes. And you will become the first victims of this new era."

"I was almost falling asleep listening to this," Dominic yawned, interrupting the other man's long-winded explanation. "Can we save time and just get to the point?"

Strauss's expression stiffened slightly, then he sneered and raised his hand to signal: "Kill them."

As soon as he finished speaking, the Hydra soldiers around them opened fire simultaneously, and dense beams of energy instantly filled the entire room. Steve immediately raised his shield to shield himself, while Natasha rolled behind a pillar and returned fire with her pistol.

Dominic stood still, letting the beam of light strike him. A hint of disdain flashed in his eyes as he raised his hand, unleashing an invisible shockwave that radiated outwards from him. The beams of light were all deflected upon contact with the shockwave, striking the surrounding walls and ground directly. Hydra soldiers were thrown to the ground by the shockwave, some even being blasted away and crashing heavily into the walls.

"This is your trump card?" Dominic sneered, his eyes filled with contempt. "You really disappoint me."

Taking advantage of the moment, Steve leaped out of cover and threw his shield at a soldier who had just gotten up. The shield bounced back into his hand upon impact. He turned and engaged another enemy in close combat, his movements clean and precise, each attack accurate and deadly.

Natasha peeked out from behind cover and fired several shots, accurately hitting several soldiers who were trying to surround Steve. Her movements were agile and swift, like a leopard hunting its prey.

Dominic continued forward, each step carrying an air of menace. His gaze locked onto Strauss on the platform, a chilling glint in his eyes. Strauss seemed to sense the danger and immediately pressed a button on his wrist.

The sphere suspended in the center of the room began to vibrate violently, and the blue light became even more dazzling. At the same time, more defensive devices rose from the surrounding floor, with automated turrets and energy barriers dividing the room into multiple zones.

"You've come too late," Strauss shouted, his voice filled with fanaticism. "Operation Insight is unstoppable! You rebels are nothing but dust in the annals of history!"

"Dust?" Dominic repeated softly, then said with a cold laugh, "I'll show you that dust can also stir up a storm."
