Chapter 16 - Mythia

Closing the books silently and placing them back on the shelves, I crept away from the section I was in and contemplated my next moves; should I go ahead and find another section to study some more or do I leave the library behind me and go do something else?

There was still a lot of time left in the day for me to do whatever I wanted to do, and while I loved reading I don't think I could stand another hour of it without actually doing something with the energy in my veins now.

It was like I had just taken a shot of espresso after I unlocked that 'Core' inside my chest, so maybe now I needed to go do something more... physically demanding; there were a few things that came to mind immediately, and upon grouping them together I knew that heading out into the city was the next item on the agenda.

Mythia was a bustling place every single hour of the day, and as such there was no use trying to wait for nightfall to do anything since all the guards would simply have night vision potions or be from races that were nocturnal; hiding in the shadows wasn't something I could do, and even in the game all night time did was change the color of the screen really.

If anything the most difference between night and day was the sort of 'scenes' you could get since both sets of guards operated differently... and the people who tended to be out at night weren't as expressive as those that were out during the day.

Walking through the halls towards the front of the Academy I went through the mental checklist I had created for myself and determined which items were the most pressing for me to grab as soon as possible.

With the introduction of 'Sets' I was left in the dark on what items would be tied to one another, but I had some good guesses; this 'Beginners Series' was likely comprised of from the things that gave you that nice boost for the first week or so of the game, all of which were somewhat readily available.

The two most important items that I had in mind were things that were rather... uniquely positioned; the first was a ring that improved your magical control and potency during meditations, and that was found on some peddling merchant's cart in the middle of the city.

The benefits of that would be to jumpstart my magical capabilities by a lot in these upcoming days, and since I had just awakened to magic this would help secure my spots in any and all classes that dealt with magic.

The second item was located deep within the Cathedral, specifically in the section dedicated to the most 'devout' of the Cathedral; the Sepulcher Of Sin was a small branch off of the side of the Cathedral, and inside I could find a necklace that just boosted all my stats by 5 points each.

That would be absolutely incredible to have right now but in the future it would be rather useless since 5 points wasn't that much; still I was praying that this would be one of the four items that were a part of the Beginner Series, since maybe that would give me some ludicrous boost?

The only issue with getting that necklace was the entire Cathedral, honestly, and it was what made me hesitant to even consider it... but at the same time it held my favorite character by far, and I think I knew how to get it without any troubles.

Exiting the Academy and taking my first step into Mythia... it was surreal, and just a day ago if someone told me I would actually be walking inside of this city I would have called them crazy... before heading home and dreaming the same thing that I was doing right now.

I was so excited to be here, to experience these things in the flesh rather than behind a screen; the first thing that hit me was the cool, crisp mountain air that rushed into my lungs with each deep breath I took, followed by the bustling noises of a city that was eerily similar to the city I had once lived in.

The roaring of cars and other motor vehicles was replaced by carriages pulled by horses and other towering labor beasts, while the cacophony of the various forges scattered around the city added to that noise that was pervading everything.

And yet at the same time there wasn't anything terrible about it since it became background noise almost immediately, ignored and dealt with as soon as I stepped onto the streets in my Academy robes.

Some people gave me kind and knowing smiles, most just ignored me and then there were a few - a handful of people that I could see for barely a split second - that were clearly checking me out, looking me up and down before smirking as they disappeared into the crowds.

Having so many people looking at me was odd, though I suppose seeing a student from the giant Academy out so early usually warranted a little bit of curiosity from everyone, even if I felt like this should be relatively normal around here...

No one approached me or anything, so I was able to just keep going as I made my way towards the many trading squares that dominated the city, searching for the one single merchant that was going to be selling something so very important to my growth.

Sounded difficult - and honestly without the random emotes above the characters heads as well as static positions on a flat screen - but it really wasn't that bad as I emerged into an open market, finding myself in a sea of deals and negotiations that flowed together seamlessly.

All the people were gathered around the various merchants in the square were more focused on the wares then they were on anything else, so I was able to go around without too much issue as I looked for one specific merchant.
