Chapter 38 - The Clash Begins

Tiger was just about to step forward when he caught Roger's warning glare.

His body froze—suddenly, he understood.

This wasn't his fight. This was a showdown between the Roger Pirates and the Navy.

If he got involved, Fishman Island would surely suffer the Navy's wrath later.

Watching blades and fists clash across the battlefield, Tiger felt a wave of helplessness.

What Roger didn't know, though, was that even if Tiger stayed out of it, a prison cell still waited for him down the road.

The moment the powder kegs went off, the battlefield erupted into chaos.

The battle stretched on and on—from day into night, and night into day again.

Roger naturally found himself locked in combat with his old rival, Sengoku.

Elsewhere, Shiro faced Akainu, Rayleigh squared off against Kizaru, Gaban took on Aokiji, Bullet crossed blades with Momousagi, and Oden clashed with Chaton.

Every matchup crackled with tension.

The rest of the Roger Pirates fought desperately against their Navy counterparts.

Shanks was still green—he could only handle ordinary soldiers.

Buggy was worse—hiding in the shadows, tossing knives whenever he saw an opening.

Roger and Sengoku knew each other inside and out, their decades of rivalry carved into their bones. Sengoku's shining Buddha palms, infused with the Navy's Rokushiki techniques, carried crushing power—each strike cracked the air itself.

Roger's blade work was unpredictable and overwhelming, his swordplay clashing evenly with Sengoku's might. Neither man could gain the upper hand.

Kizaru conjured a dazzling "Ama-no-Murakumo Sword" from his Pika Pika no Mi (Light-Light) and clashed swords with Rayleigh.

In pure swordsmanship, Rayleigh was superior. Every swing of his blade carried calm mastery.

But Kizaru's light powers gave him unmatched speed. Whenever Rayleigh pressed him, he'd vanish in a flash, countering with "Yasakani no Magatama" or a blinding "Light-Speed Kick."

The relentless light-speed strikes were almost impossible to predict, forcing Rayleigh onto the defensive. Gritting his teeth, he searched for a chance to turn the tide.

Gaban had already faced Aokiji once before. In the years since, Aokiji had risen from an unknown soldier to Vice Admiral under Garp's brutal training.

Now, with icy blades forged from the Hie Hie no Mi (Ice-Ice), wrapped in Armament Haki, Aokiji clashed head-on with Gaban's twin axes.

Gaban was adapting to the freezing powers, but victory over such a powerful opponent wouldn't come easy.

Bullet and Oden together overwhelmed Momousagi and Chaton.

Their ferocious attacks rained down like a storm, leaving the Navy officers barely able to hold the line.

And then there was Shiro, trading blows with the man who would one day be Fleet Admiral—Akainu.

The magma man clenched a cigar in his teeth, arrogance and confidence blazing in his eyes.

He was only a Vice Admiral now, but his strength was already nearing Admiral-level. Along with Kizaru and Aokiji, he was marked as the Navy's next generation of Admirals—only lacking the battle merits to cement it. This operation, personally led by Sengoku, was meant to win them just that.

"So, you're the Roger Pirates' fourth seat, Jabal Shiro?"

Akainu kept his hands in his pockets, looking down at Shiro with contempt.

"That's right, Akainu. I've got another nickname too…"

Shiro's grin turned sly, his eyes flashing with mischief.

"They call me the Professional Dog-Slayer."

"Bastard!" Akainu's eyes widened in fury. The cigar snapped between his teeth as he hurled a molten fist forward.

His punch blazed with searing magma, the air warping from the heat.

Shiro instantly raised his hands—the Paw-Paw Fruit's ability forming a transparent barrier that reflected the magma strike cleanly away.

"So your little fruit can bounce anything back, huh? Then try this—Great Eruption!"

Akainu roared, gathering a massive surge of magma into his right fist.

The heat spiked—the air itself shimmered, hard to breathe as the colossal magma fist came crashing down.

Shiro smirked.

"Yeah, I can't bounce this one back… but why would I take it head-on, idiot?"

He slapped his own chest—FWIP!—vanishing in an instant.

The giant magma fist slammed into the ocean instead.

BOOOOM!

The sea exploded into steam, boiling fish alive where they swam. A bitter stench of charred flesh filled the air.

"Damn brat! All you do is run!"

Akainu snarled, using Observation Haki to lock onto Shiro's position. His body blurred with "Soru" as he charged in.

"You're fast," Shiro muttered, drawing his blade—the Tetanus Fang.

Akainu sneered, coating his foot in Armament Haki, trying to stomp the blade and intimidate him.

"Oh, you wanna show off? Fine then! Little Fang, show this red mutt some bite!"

T/N: Name change, has also been changed everywhere prior

Shiro grinned, suddenly letting go of the sword.

"Yes, master!"

The blade spirit answered. The Tetanus Fang pulsed with golden light, unleashing a slash on its own.

Akainu hadn't expected that—the sword attacked by itself.

BANG! The golden slash smashed into him, sending him sprawling across the ground. His right foot throbbed with sharp, burning pain, and he couldn't stop a grunt of agony from escaping.

"What the hell is that thing?!"

Akainu clutched his injured leg, glaring at the floating sword in shock and fury.

"This sword's got a name," Shiro jeered. "I call it the Dog-Slayer Blade. Perfect for cutting down a mangy red mutt like you!"

"You bastard…" Akainu's eyes blazed with fury. "How dare you insult me again?! DIE—Inugami Guren!" (Hound Blaze)
