"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 262: Mayuri, Welcome Home

Shuo's hand lingered in Mayuri's hair, and her pale cheeks flushed a delicate pink. She didn't pull away.

Those eyes—pure, luminous pink, unclouded by doubt or fear. Shuo's heart skipped. Angel, he thought. She really is an angel. I want to marry her.

The thought startled him, vivid and sudden. But Kerubiel's threat flared again, snapping him back to reality. He set his feelings aside, dealt with the Angel first.

It happened in a blink. Mayuri watched, stunned, as Shuo—unscathed by the Sword of Lahat—casually slapped Kerubiel away. The rampaging Angel vanished, sent flying with a single, effortless blow.

Mayuri's jaw dropped. "Is… is he even human?"

On the Fraxinus, the command crew stared in disbelief. The Angel that shrugged off their main cannon and the combined power of every Spirit girl—obliterated by a slap.

Kotori clicked her tongue, feigning annoyance. "Show-off." But the smile tugging at her lips betrayed her relief.

Shuo turned back to Mayuri, his smile gentle. "Relax. I won't let anything hurt my Mayuri."

His words made her blush deeper, and she looked away. "Shuo, I… I…"

Before she could finish, Tohka and the others arrived, drawn to the scene. Their gazes landed on Mayuri, curiosity and a strange warmth stirring among them.

"Shuo, who's this girl?" Tohka asked, voicing what everyone wondered.

As fellow girls, they couldn't help but admire Mayuri's beauty—and feel a budding affection.

Shuo explained, keeping it simple. "She's… the embodiment of your spirit power. Mayuri."

The revelation hit like a stone thrown into still water. Shock rippled through the group.

"You mean… she's made from our power?!"

"That's insane!"

"Astonishment. Yuzuru can hardly believe it."

"So our jealousy did this?"

"Ara, so that's why Shuo went on all those dates… Now it makes sense."

"Looks like we just gained another little sister."

For a moment, the air buzzed with excited chatter and disbelief. But when they understood Mayuri's origins, the girls welcomed her warmly.

Mayuri's gaze drifted over their smiling faces, her expression complicated. She opened her mouth to reply—then froze.

Golden light began to shimmer around her, growing brighter by the second.

"What's happening?!"

The girls tensed, watching in alarm.

Mayuri's voice was soft, almost peaceful. "I'm just a crystallization of spirit power. I don't have a real body. Now that the crisis is over… I'll disappear."

"I was born from all of you. So now, it's time for me to go, right?"

Her words landed like a stone in the chest. The girls' hearts clenched, a wave of sorrow passing through them.

"No… it can't be!"

Mayuri stepped closer to Shuo, her eyes gentle and shining.

"Shuo, I think I really do love you. Maybe I loved you from the moment I was born."

"Thinking back, I was always jealous of everyone—jealous they could go on dates with you, jealous they could always be by your side."

"But there's one thing I can brag about: only you and I both drew the worst fortune at the shrine."

"And… I'm not just a life born to disappear anymore. Because I met you. That's enough."

She rose on tiptoe, pressed a soft kiss to Shuo's lips. Her hands cupped his cheeks, and tears spilled down her face—tears she could no longer hold back.

"Thank you, Shuo. Now, Mayuri has no regrets…"

Light erupted around her, golden and fierce. The girls lowered their heads, sorrow etched across their faces. They'd thought they'd gained a new sister—never expected to lose her so soon.

Eyes reddened, some like Yoshino already sobbing aloud.

The light grew blinding. Everyone closed their eyes, waiting for it to fade. When they opened them, confusion reigned.

Mayuri stood before them, perfectly whole.

"Huh? Why… why didn't I disappear?"

She looked down at herself, pink eyes wide with wonder.

Shuo grinned, shaking his head. "You're just like Kaguya and Yuzuru—trying to vanish after stirring my heart. Not happening."

He stepped forward, drawing on the Star Grail's power. Sacred sigils wove around Mayuri, her body of pure spirit solidifying into flesh and blood.

Mayuri wasn't a true living being—she was a miracle born from the Spirits' feelings and power. But now, she was becoming something more: her own independent existence.

For Shuo, making it happen was effortless.

"Now, how should I punish you…? Hmm. I sentence you to stay by my side for life. No leaving allowed."

He wrapped his arm around Mayuri's slender waist, smiling.

"Welcome home, Mayuri."

She stared for a long moment, then threw her arms around his neck, silencing him with a kiss.

Shuo responded without hesitation, matching her passion.

After a while, he tasted salt—opened his eyes to see Mayuri's face streaked with tears.

They parted, breathless.

Mayuri wiped her cheeks, her face radiant with happiness, her gaze warm and devoted.

"Then… Shuo, please take care of me for the rest of my life!"

Shuo stroked her back, smiling softly. "Please take care of me too, Mayuri."

Seeing Mayuri still with them, the girls' faces lit up with joy. But as the couple kissed, their smiles turned to playful pouts and jealous protests.

"No fair! I want a kiss too!"

"Darling, me too!"

"Step aside, everyone! As the main wife, it's my turn first!"

Chaos erupted once again—laughter, teasing, and affection swirling through the room.
