"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 261: Am I Jealous of Them?

Aboard the Fraxinus, chaos reigned as alarms blared and the situation spiraled out of control.

"Status update! The sphere has become visible!"

"These spirit energy readings… That's an Angel! And that girl—could she be a Spirit?!"

"What in the world is happening?!"

Kotori's face hardened. She didn't hesitate. "Kannazuki!"

"On it!" Kannazuki Kyohei barked, rallying the crew. The battleship's stealth dropped, its excess magical power rerouted to the Yggdrasil Leaves.

"All Yggdrasil Leaves—fire!"

From the rear of the ship, a barrage of blue light arrows shot forth, streaking toward the rampaging Kerubiel below. The arrows spun around the Angel, weaving a shimmering golden barrier beneath it.

"Rise, Seven-Fifty!" Kannazuki shouted.

The barrier blazed, launching Kerubiel skyward in a flash of brilliance. But the attack did nothing—if anything, it only enraged the Angel further.

Kerubiel's form twisted, dozens of crimson eyes opening across its surface. Blue lightning rained down in torrents, forcing everyone below to scramble for cover.

"Ugh, all this dodging is so not my style. Yuzuru, let's go!" Kaguya called out.

"Agreed. I was thinking the same, Kaguya," Yuzuru replied, her tone cool.

The twin Spirits shot upward, wings blazing, joining the fray.

The others followed suit, transforming into their Spirit dresses and readying for battle.

"Sandalphon!"

"Zafkiel!"

"Camael!"

"Yoshino, let's do this!"

"Mm!"

In a heartbeat, the girls surged skyward, launching themselves at Kerubiel in a coordinated assault.

All except one—Nia, who had neither the nerves nor the combat instincts for a fight.

"Waaaahhhhh!" Nia wailed, tackling Shuo and clinging to his waist, her face buried against his side.

"Young man, you stole my purity! You have to protect me!" She nuzzled closer, tears soaking his shirt.

Shuo sighed, palming his forehead. Nia's shamelessness never failed to leave him speechless. You're a Spirit, for crying out loud—could you at least pretend to be brave?

Clearly, just putting protective spells on the girls wasn't enough. He'd have to help them grow stronger too.

"I've already cast protection on you. You won't get hurt, so quit clinging to me—my clothes are drenched in your tears."

He pushed her off, feigning annoyance, but his tone was gentle. How scared could she get?

"Hehe—oh, right! I totally forgot. Sorry, sorry!" Nia giggled, wiping her face.

"But, young man—why aren't you taking care of that crazy sphere?"

Shuo glanced at the rampaging Kerubiel, now attacking indiscriminately. "Relax. I've set up a barrier—none of their attacks can harm ordinary people. As for why I'm not stepping in, I want Tohka and the others to get some real combat experience."

They both turned their eyes skyward, watching the battle unfold.

But even with their full strength, Tohka, Origami, and the rest couldn't so much as scratch Kerubiel. Lightning forced them into constant evasive maneuvers.

Seeing the fight escalate, Kotori made her call. "Prepare the convergence magic cannon—Mistilteinn, maximum output. Fire!"

A golden beam lanced out, striking Kerubiel dead center. The blast lit up the entire district.

But as the dust settled, Kerubiel floated there, untouched.

"What the—? It didn't do anything?!" Shock rippled through the crew.

Suddenly, Kerubiel released a bizarre sphere, ignoring the golden barrier entirely. It descended toward Mayuri, unfurling a platinum web. The attack came so fast, Mayuri had no chance to react—she was seconds from capture.

Shuo moved in a blur, his blade flashing. With a single strike, he shattered the half-formed cage.

"No way I'm letting you take Mayuri from me again!"

The sphere dissolved in a burst of psychic energy, vanishing as if it had never existed.

Mayuri stared at him, eyes wide. "Shuo, you…"

He turned, offering his hand with a gentle smile. "It's alright, Mayuri. This time, I'll protect you."

She hesitated, searching his face. Then, slowly, she took his hand and rose to her feet.

On the battlefield, Kerubiel's rage boiled over, its form warping yet again. Its wings twisted back into a sphere, sprouting a pair of bull-like horns and a massive spike.

"What's happening? Kerubiel, stop! Why are you doing this?" Mayuri's voice trembled, her confusion mounting.

Everything had seemed to settle—so why was chaos returning?

She thought back to Shuo's dates with the other girls, a strange ache stirring inside her.

Suddenly, an impossible thought struck her.

"Could it be… is this my fault?!"

Aboard the Fraxinus, Reine's voice cut through the confusion.

"Jealousy!"

"These unfamiliar spirit waves… My guess is that the unknown girl's feelings for Shuo are triggering the Angel's rampage."

Realization swept the room. But there was no time to act—alarms screamed as Kerubiel gathered a monstrous surge of energy. Not a single Spirit present could hope to withstand the coming attack.

"This… this is the Sword of Lahat?!" Mayuri gasped, terror etched across her face.

Shuo smiled at her, calm as ever. "Looks like it's up to me."

He stepped forward, ready to face Kerubiel head-on.

"Wait—Shuo! Kerubiel is incredibly strong, don't be reckless!" Mayuri cried, grabbing his hand to hold him back.

Shuo grinned. "See? Mayuri, you do care about me. Otherwise, why would you worry so much? You're adorable."

He reached out, gently stroking her silky golden hair. Mayuri's cheeks flushed, but she didn't pull away.
