Chapter 81 - Chapter 81 The Plan Begins

Click.

Tony Stark felt the space in front of him shatter like glass. The illusion that had plagued him finally vanished, and he let out a long sigh of relief.

"Phew… what an unpleasant trip. Hey, Cap, when do our missions ever get easier? Maybe then I'll actually consider not resigning."

His voice crackled over the comms. Even FRIDAY had been affected by the illusion, and it wasn't until now that Tony managed to restore the system.

"Enough talking, Tony. The illusion may be gone, but the enemies are still here."

Steve Rogers' voice was solemn, more serious than ever.

"F***k. Ultron-boy, what the hell have you been eating?"

Tony's HUD lit up, and when he scanned his surroundings, his eyes widened. In front of him stood Ultron—towering nearly three meters tall, like an adult looking down at a child, radiating intimidation.

Boom!

Ultron's response was a palm cannon blast. The scorching beam seared Stark's armor, targeting its weaker titanium-alloy sections. Though some Vibranium plating held, sparks crackled across the suit as Tony crashed to the ground.

"Alright, you little bastard—you've pissed me off. Time for daddy to give you an education."

Tony shot back into the air, right fist glowing as it gathered compressed energy.

Boom!

This time, it was Ultron who went flying, crashing into an office building. Stark's strike signaled the Avengers' counterattack.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

Clint Barton loosed a flurry of arrows, each one finding its mark. Ultron drones dropped one after another, arrows through their heads.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Natasha Romanoff's movements were sharp and fluid. Each time she closed in, another robot was sent flying.

Da-da-da!

In the sky, Sam Wilson spread his wings, riddling more than a dozen drones with gunfire.

On the ground, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes fought side by side, smashing their way through waves of Ultron bots until the area was littered with scrap metal.

Only Thor hovered in midair, dazed, while Bruce Banner still stood on the ground in a trance.

"Hey, Thor! Now's not the time to be daydreaming!"

Tony's voice snapped him out of it. Thor's eyes burned with fury as thunder roared across the skies, lightning cascading into Mjolnir. With a deafening crack, the amplified storm ripped through hundreds of drones, frying them where they stood.

"Bruce… I need you now."

Natasha appeared beside Banner, grabbed him by the collar, and hurled him off the edge.

Roar!

A massive green figure slammed into the ground. Hulk had arrived. His eyes locked onto Natasha with momentary fury before he seized a truck, swung it like a bat, and cleared out an entire cluster of drones.

With a single leap, Hulk launched himself at Ultron.

Boom!

His fist slammed into Ultron's Vibranium shield. The shockwave rattled the battlefield, forcing Stark to retreat to avoid the blast radius.

"Cap, looks like your future shield got left behind here," Tony quipped, already charging his ion cannon.

But before he could fire, Wanda Maximoff appeared above him, her hands glowing scarlet. Her chaos magic gripped Stark's armor and hurled him into a building.

Cough. "Ah, new enemy on the field? Hey, sweetheart, you're gorgeous, but that's no reason to throw me into walls. If you wanted my attention, my room's always open at night…"

Despite his banter, Stark didn't hesitate. He loosed a charged shot at Wanda.

"—Melt."

Her hands twisted, red energy spiraling with raw origin magic. The beam disintegrated into nothing.

Meanwhile, Ultron spread four metal wings from his back, forming an X-shape, and unleashed his own ion cannon. The blast hammered Hulk, driving him into the ground.

"Well… that's uncomfortably familiar," Stark muttered as he saw Ultron using his own tech.

"I've surpassed you, Tony Stark."

Ultron rocketed forward, slamming his Vibranium arm into Tony.

The two clashed midair—metal against metal, punch for punch, neither holding back.

"Ultron," a cold voice echoed in his core, "do not let anger blind you."

Allens' mental command reverberated in Ultron's consciousness. Like a bucket of ice water, it calmed him instantly.

"…The plan begins now."

Breaking off, Ultron soared toward the church in the center of Sokovia.

Bang!

He landed hard, and from the ground beneath the church, a massive reactor rose, its energy pulsing. At the same time, the entire city of Sokovia began to crumble and rise into the sky.
