Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.
Above Sokovia, Ultron's armies launched one after another, flying into outer space. A pair of scarlet mechanical eyes flashed. At the head of the swarm was a towering, silver-white Ultron—three to five meters tall, forged from Vibranium.
Ultron's eyes burned with endless fury. His internal sensors streamed data in front of him like a waterfall, while his core consciousness constructed a precise model of his target: the Skrull warship.
Boom, boom.
Ultron's calculations locked in. His legion immediately opened fire, unleashing a storm of missiles, laser cannons, and particle beams.
Chi chi chi!
A massive energy shield flared around the Skrull ship, absorbing the barrage. Inside, Commander Lambert stared grimly at the projections.
"Ultron's army… what kind of monsters have these Earthlings created?"
Sweat rolled down Lambert's forehead. Not even Skrull technology could create an AI that could upgrade and evolve itself. Yet these "backward" humans had done it, shattering everything he thought he knew.
"Commander, what do we do? The weapon system is down!"
A Skrull in a green combat suit gripped his rifle and looked to Lambert in panic.
"There's no choice. The ship's power systems are blocked. We're trapped here. We fight."
Lambert left the control room, heading to storage. He opened a glass case and pulled out his own combat armor. Notably, he was still in the form of Captain Steve Rogers.
Click, click, click.
The hatch opened. One by one, Skrulls in combat suits stepped into the void of space. Their gear adapted to the environment, ion blades gleaming in their left hands, energy rifles raised in their right.
Biu! Biu-biu!
Green energy bolts tore into the Ultron army, punching holes through several drones.
Peng! Peng! Peng!
But they were far too few. The Ultron swarm returned fire with a coordinated volley of palm cannons. Skrulls were cut down instantly.
"Damn it! Contact Chief Talos—now!"
Lambert's voice cracked with fear as he fired wildly, retreating back into the ship. He had made a mistake leading his soldiers out. Against Ultron's cold, relentless army, the Skrulls hadn't even lasted a single round.
"Sir—we can't reach Talos!"
A Skrull scientist frantically worked a portable communicator, but shook his head helplessly.
"Then get me the Avengers!"
Lambert snatched the device and patched into Stark's AI assistant, Friday.
"Avengers, this is Commander Lambert of the Skrulls—working under Nick Fury of S.W.O.R.D. We're under attack and need immediate support! Repeat, we need your support now!"
Lambert's image—still in Rogers' form—flashed across the Avengers' visors, shocking them.
Neither Rogers, Stark, nor Thor had known Skrulls were stationed in Earth's orbit.
"Skrulls?!" Thor's face darkened. "Do you Earthlings have any idea what fire you're playing with? The Skrulls are a dangerous race."
"Great King of Asgard, you misunderstand," Lambert said quickly, saluting. "Our leadership was destroyed by the Kree. Only we remain. Nick Fury gave us refuge—hiding us here, in Earth's orbit."
"Damn it, Fury," Tony muttered, scowling. "What other secrets are you hiding?"
The fact that a Skrull could take Rogers' exact form made his gut twist.
"Captain, I swear, everyone wants to be you these days," Tony quipped bitterly, before blasting toward the Ultron army.
"I won't let you interfere with Mr. Allens' plans."
Scarlet Witch raised her hands. Red chaos energy erupted, slamming Tony backwards. He crashed into the ruins of a shattered space station.
"Someone deal with that girl…" Tony groaned, frustration in his voice. Wanda's powers were impossible to counter directly.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.
But no one could help him—the remaining Avengers were swarmed by upgraded Ultron drones, each towering nearly three meters tall.
"Well, well," Tony muttered, shrugging, "green guy, looks like you're outta luck."
He had never trusted aliens, not after the Chitauri invasion. If the Skrulls were wiped out, he wouldn't lose sleep.
"Damn Avengers!"
Lambert cursed as anger flickered across his face. Before he could retreat further, the ship's hatch was ripped open. A colossal Ultron, nearly four meters tall, stepped inside. Behind him followed Allens, with Wanda at his side.
Whoosh.
Scarlet Witch's eyes narrowed. With a flick of her hands, every Skrull soldier levitated helplessly, rifles clattering from their grasp. Disgust flashed across her face.
"Nice work, my dear Wanda," Allens said with a smile.
He strode to Lambert, still disguised as Captain Rogers. His eyes turned cold.
Slash!
With a thought, Allens conjured a blade of psychic energy and drove it into Lambert's skull. The Skrull's scream echoed through the chamber as his brain was laid bare—its alien circuits vastly different from a human's.
A cruel smile spread across Allens' lips.
"Found it. The Skrulls' gift—shapeshifting."
