Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Settling Accounts with Him

But it was all for nothing, the security guard wasn't swayed by her sweet words and insisted that she register her boyfriend's name and department floor.

Laura Quincy was inwardly complaining, big corporations' security guards were all so by-the-book.

Suddenly, she saw someone walking inside, and immediately hatched a plan, shouting inward to him, "Ian Linden, I'm here!"

With that, she attempted to rush inside.

The security guard swiftly tried to stop her, but she came at him with such force that he ended up pushing her out.

Laura stumbled back several steps and bumped into a solid chest. She quickly steadied herself by holding onto the man's arm and took the chance to cling onto him, whispering, "Please, do me a favor."

She noticed the man was holding a document, the cover of which prominently displayed the "Aegis Group" logo, presumably indicating he worked in this building too.

"Darling, you're just in time. I just mistook someone else for you! I already told the security guard that we planned to have lunch together, but he just wouldn't let me in," Laura Quincy explained with a sweet smile, making it all up as she went.

Unbeknownst to her, the security guard's eyes were wide with shock...

Heavens! This woman was actually the girlfriend of the CEO?

Laura also noticed the security guard's expression had changed, but she didn't think too much about it, assuming he was just surprised that her boyfriend had really shown up.

Jason Hawthorne, knowing that his elder brother was at the company, sent Mason Cross elsewhere to handle some affairs for him, while he took the documents back to the office. Little did he expect that just as he reached the entrance, a woman would stumble into his arms.

Upon seeing her face clearly, he wished he could immediately shrug her off, but she was clinging tightly to his arm, asking for help. And then, hearing her claim he was her boyfriend, his loathing for her deepened—she must have remembered something, otherwise, why approach Twinkle and him so suddenly?

"Let go!"

Jason Hawthorne's deep voice was cold, devoid of warmth, his dark eyes intimidating and icy.

Only then did Laura Quincy look at him; his face was more impeccably handsome than any luxury magazine male model. His sharp features matched with a cold expression, noble and aloof.

Laura couldn't understand why, but she felt a fleeting sense of familiarity, only to immediately dismiss it as absurd.

Strangely, Laura looked at Jason Hawthorne, wasn't she just asking him for help? He hadn't rejected after all!

At this moment, the security guard respectfully called out, "CEO!"

Boom—

Laura Quincy widened her eyes in disbelief; no wonder he exuded such a strong and commanding presence, she thought he was some senior executive...

Turns out, he was the very culprit who got her detained for 24 hours at the police station and relentlessly cursed by netizens!

Immediately, she withdrew her hand, coldly glaring at the man in front of her, gritting her teeth as she spat out two words, "Bastard!"

Jason Hawthorne slightly raised an eyebrow, his eyes filled with malevolent intent, and stepped inside.

Naturally, Laura Quincy wouldn't just let him leave like that, she stepped forward and grabbed his hand, "You stop right there! Ruining my life and think you can just walk away like that?"

Jason Hawthorne's eyes showed a flash of impatience as he coldly instructed the security, "Throw her out!"

The security guard went to pull Laura away, only for her to shrug him off, "You can kick me out! But first, clear my name! I kindly took your son in for a night, and you ungratefully accuse me of 'child kidnapping,' did I ever provoke you? Just because you are the high-and-mighty Fourth Young Master Hawthorne, does that give you the right to slander people without reason?"
