Chapter 7 - Chapter 6: Night Demon

This creature is completely black and covered with a layer of soft fur. Its round, small head has a pair of large ears, resembling an ordinary bat, but its body is over half a meter long. Particularly, its face has no eyes or mouth, only a bizarre nose, and a proboscis resembling a needle.

Night Tracking Bat.

This is not a species from this world, just like the Sulfuric Acid Insect seen earlier; they came from a Dimensional Rift, and apart from Night Tracking Bat, it has another name.

Night Demon.

Although it looks like a bat, its hunting method is similar to a mosquito's. They like to pierce their prey's body with sharp proboscises and suck blood for energy.

A Night Demon can drink the blood of five adults a day. Greed and ugliness are its synonyms, and it's a social creature that acts in groups, sometimes a few, but potentially dozens at once.

The way they hunt is quite peculiar. Without eyes, they cannot rely on vision to hunt. While flying in mid-air, they like to scatter urine over large areas. The urine contains scents since Night Demons have no vision and severely degraded olfaction. In the dark underground, they use the unique smell in the liquid to track prey.

Strange hunting.

Planting by day, feeding by night.

Hence, they are also called Night Demons.

"What's going on?"

Chen Feng gazed at the figure flickering at the door, his tone somewhat low. This creature has neither eyes nor ears, impossible to follow him all the way here.

When Chen Feng left the Beast Fighting Arena, he could confirm he didn't encounter any Night Demon, yet now these Night Demons are attacking the convenience store!

"Wait..."

Chen Feng paused, slowly turning his head toward the young girl beside him. By this time, the girl was already panic-stricken, terror reflected in her eyes.

Chen Feng could confirm he hadn't encountered a Night Demon, but... there were two people in this convenience store.

Initially, Chen Feng thought the mark on her neck was just a scratch, but upon closer inspection, he found the color on the girl was more like a dye. He lowered his head and sniffed lightly, his pupils instantly contracting to a thin line.

"Urine smell!"

All mysteries were solved; the girl had said they encountered a flying monster earlier. It's evident the monster she mentioned was the Night Demon right in front of them, and she was contaminated with urine. The Night Demons found them here through the girl.

"No..."

The girl let out a heartrending scream, for Chen Feng's actions could easily be misunderstood. Not only did he tear off the girl's clothes, but he also sniffed her skin like a pervert. Having her body violated, the girl ignored the outside threat and called out loudly.

"Let go of me... I'll call someone... you'll be caught..."

"Crack!"

Chen Feng made a neck-twisting motion.

The girl's voice abruptly stopped. Her nerves were damaged, and she immediately fell unconscious.

Her body slumped to the floor, her small face seemingly still frozen in that moment of panic. Everything happened too suddenly; she never expected Chen Feng would knock her out.

Chen Feng took a few steps, picked up a pair of scissors from the shelf, and without any hesitation, he fiercely sliced along the girl's shoulder. Blood instantly flowed down the side of her neck.

The degraded sense of smell made it so the Night Demons couldn't even distinguish the taste of food.

Blood!

This would mask the original scent on the girl!

Fighting Night Demons, this is basic knowledge.

In the situation just now, Chen Feng had only two choices: one, for the girl's sake, release the Inferior Demon to fight them off. This would save the girl yet usher in a crisis, and his whereabouts would be exposed. At that point, he wouldn't just face Night Demons but also the hunters on the street.

Two, for himself, cut open her body to let the blood mask her scent!

The thought appeared, and Chen Feng acted without hesitation, subconsciously knocking the girl out and using her blood to obscure her scent.

Ruthless?

This place isn't sturdy; even without Chen Feng, the girl would have been drained of blood by the Night Demons, dying tragically on the spot. Being marked, it was all destined.

But now...

She was only injured on her shoulder, spared from life-threatening harm. This was already a blessing in disguise!

As for pity, that's even more absurd talk.

Try acting pitiful and shedding tears to the monsters outside the door to see if they'd spare you?

This world is cruel, constantly full of danger, dying of hunger, being devoured by zombies, or perishing in conflicts and disease.

Natural selection, survival of the fittest;

This is a simple truth.

"Bang..."

The convenience store door was struck again. The Night Demons hesitated; earlier, they clearly sensed the prey's scent inside.

The overpowering smell of blood played its part.

Chen Feng formed a seal with his hand. Caution doesn't mean cowardice. If these Night Demons at the door indeed barged in, he'd have no choice but to fight.

Yet, after a few strikes, the Night Demons halted their actions. This creature has extremely low intelligence; once the scent was masked, it quickly shifted focus.

After confirming the Night Demons left,

Chen Feng sat back on the ground. He had little time to rest, needing to replenish energy before nightfall.

The girl lay on one side, her face quite pale from blood loss.

Chen Feng couldn't take her along. In this perilous apocalypse, though she escaped one crisis, ever-growing threats lurked around every corner outside.

She might die.

But this is the apocalypse.

Such matters are commonplace.
