Chapter 5 - chapter 5

Chapter 5

An Indescribable Sorrow

Since the war began… not a single drop of rain had fallen, as though the heavens themselves had grown furious at mankind's actions.

Drought consumed the entire world; no winter brought rain, no summer, no season of the year.

Years passed… and not a single drop was seen upon the surface of this wretched planet.

Was the sky truly angry at them?

Or sorrowful at the savagery it witnessed?

No one knew… yet the only truth everyone understood was this: the rain… had stopped.

But on this day—after so many long years—the rain began to fall again, and with a breathtaking intensity.

"It's really raining!"

"At last… it seems luck has smiled on us!"

People rushed out of their homes, faces glowing with joy, playing beneath the rain as though a living miracle had descended from the sky.

The inhabitants of that shattered village all emerged, each carrying whatever vessels or barrels they had, desperate to collect the pure rainwater like children at play.

Yet… among all humans that day, there was one soul who felt no joy.

One whose heart had been devoured completely by pain.

He did not revel in the rain… did not feel it against his skin… indeed, he did not care for it at all.

A shadow moved, carrying a body within its arms.

From afar, one might have thought it was an old man, bent beneath the weight of years…

But it was Einver.

He walked with steady, heavy steps, bearing the corpse of his mother in his embrace.

He walked… and walked… until he stood before a small grave upon a beautiful green hill.

"Father… I've come."

His voice escaped his lips like that of an aged elder, one who had lived thousands of years and endured all the horrors life could offer.

He took a spade that lay to the side and began to dig a grave beside his father's.

With each strike of the spade into the earth, his heart tore further apart.

With every hollow carved into the ground, the truth of reality sank deeper into his soul.

After half an hour of digging, he lifted his mother's body—washed pure by the rain—and lowered it into the grave with the silence befitting an angel.

....

Einver sat quietly before the gravestone, the sky unceasing in its downpour…

As if it were sharing his grief, weeping alongside him in silence.

Yet the same rain that had cleansed his mother's body… could not cleanse his heart.

That pure heart, which had endured such great tragedies… was now steeped in a darkness beyond words.

"I will come to you soon…"

He spoke those trembling words, placed his hand gently upon the gravestone…

Then rose, and made his way toward his home.

A boy who had lost everything…

Who had lost the very anchor that held his mind intact, that had steadied his pure heart.

Einver walked beneath the rain, his steps strange, as though his thoughts wandered in a maze…

Ideas colliding violently, refusing to settle on a single one.

He arrived at his house.

"Mother…"

He called softly as he knocked on the door… but no answer came.

"Is… is she asleep?"

He wondered in a broken voice, opening the door… only to find no one there.

The house was empty… except for five men, bound and cast aside in the corner of the room, still unconscious.

"Ah… that's right… she's dead."

The instant those words left his lips, he collapsed to the ground, his tears bursting forth in an agony beyond belief.

He clutched his own body with his arms as he wept with indescribable fury.

He wished to kill himself from the sheer pain…

He wished to destroy the entire world…

…But the only truth he truly wished for was this: his mother.

...

Two months passed after that incident, and no one heard a word of Einver.

Void sat every day in silence before Einver's door.

From dawn until nightfall, before finding some place to sleep.

The pain tore his heart mercilessly… for he had considered Einver's mother his own, as she alone had shown him true kindness.

And during those two months, Void would hear strange screams from within Einver's house from time to time…

But no matter what he did, the door was never opened for him.

He knew full well that the sound… was not Einver's.

And yet, the anguish gnawed at his heart, guilt tormented his soul…

He had long believed what happened was his fault.

...

After three full months, one of the villagers went out searching for food…

And suddenly… a colossal scream erupted from within Einver's house, shaking the earth itself.

The villagers gathered from every direction, curiosity swelling within them:

'Einver is well known… perhaps he has some money.'

'He might possess weapons, or cloth, or food.'

'Maybe… maybe…'

Their hearts were filled with nothing but greed, and their desire to enter grew.

But as they approached, a frail young man stood before them, trembling with hunger…

It was Void.

"No one will enter!!"

Void screamed with a sharp voice, raising his head in defiance.

He had spent all those months without food, without water, without restful sleep…

Yet he clung to life only… for the sake of his brother and mentor, Einver.

"Ah… what a cursed life…"

And as soon as the people heard that anguished voice… the door to Einver's house opened.

With its opening came a sudden gust of wind, carrying a foul, rotten stench that drove everyone back.

That stench seeped from the depths of the house… accompanied by a dark hand clutching the doorframe.

Then a human silhouette emerged from within…

A body cloaked in shadow and blood.

Void froze in place, yet he recognized that figure instantly.

"…Einver…"

The figure stepped forward, its body revealed clearly before all:

A body drenched in blood from head to toe, as though it had just emerged from the hell of spiritual dimensions.

Einver raised his head toward the sky, a twisted smile stretching across his face…

Then he began to laugh—a booming laugh, mingled with madness, tears, and pain.

For in that moment…

Einver lost the last trace of compassion he had ever possessed.
