Chapter 64 - chapter 64

Chapter 64 : Roaring Wrath

The earth trembled violently, as if groaning beneath the weight of an overwhelming power that surged across its surface, while the heavens themselves screamed—a deep, sharp sound as though the very sky had cracked open from within.

Sai Mo's heart quivered, still bent to the side, weeping over his devastating loss. Yet his tears dried abruptly when a current of dark energy burst forth from the depths of the Forest of Dreams—a heavy, suffocating force that awakened the warrior's instinct buried in his soul, forcing him to rise swiftly to his feet. From the depths of his heart, he knew—the battle was about to begin.

With a sharp motion, he raised his hands, and behind his back, dozens of gleaming iron needles materialized, shimmering with a cold, deadly light—like the fangs of a beast ready to strike. The will to fight surged within him, consuming his grief, and his heart transformed from sorrow into defiance.

Then, a soldier's terrified voice rang out:

"The Forest of Dreams has vanished!"

Sai Mo froze where he stood, lifting his gaze toward the sky, where that cursed black dome had always loomed above the forest. But now—it was gone. Only the colossal walls encircling the land remained.

---

The distance between the Forest of Dreams and the City of the Phoenix Flame was no longer what it once was.

Over the years, the city had expanded—growing larger and broader with every passing season.

Eight years ago, the journey from the City of the Phoenix Flame to the Redlight Village took five hours on foot and two or less on horseback. But now, with the city's continued growth, the distance had shrunk—barely more than an hour on foot, or fifteen minutes on a swift steed.

Thus, when the earth quaked in that horrifying tremor, every citizen of the City of the Phoenix Flame felt as though the epicenter lay beneath their very feet. Even Lord Lu Sa, ruler of the city, felt the shaking in his chest, his heart thundering with dread.

He muttered under his breath, voice trembling with suppressed fury:

"What in the name of the heavens is happening?! … Damn it! Am I to stand idle once more, just as I did years ago when I failed my brother and comrade out of cowardice? Or as I did two months ago when I trembled before my own fate?"

Blood surged hotly through his veins. He slammed his fist into the windowpane, shattering it into glittering shards. Then he roared, voice echoing through the palace halls:

"Lu Mai! Come at once!"

Moments later, a young man appeared, breathing heavily from intense training, sweat glistening on his face—but in his bright eyes burned resolve and courage. Lu Sa looked at him with deep fatherly affection, placed his heavy hand gently atop the boy's head, and said in a hoarse, trembling tone:

"My son… I can bear this no longer. I will go myself to the Forest of Dreams—whether it ends in salvation or in ruin, I must go. You are all that remains to me in this life. From this moment on, should anything happen to me, you will take command of the City of the Phoenix Flame. Do you understand?"

Lu Mai's face changed instantly—grief, worry, and anger all colliding in his expression. He bowed deeply, voice shaking:

"My lord… Father… please! Let me go in your stead! You must stay here—you are the city's last hope! I beg you."

But Lu Sa turned his face away, exhaling heavily:

"My son… I cannot lose another child. Listen to your father. Stay here… Do not become a foolish lord like me. Be better than I was. I have lived a life full of regrets—but what use is regret now?"

Then he stormed out of the palace, his voice thunderous as he summoned his soldiers. Within minutes, four hundred troops stood ready before him. Raising his golden spear high into the air, he shouted:

"To the Forest of Dreams!"

And they moved like a raging storm.

Within fifteen minutes, they arrived. And the moment their feet touched the forest's borders, the same terrifying cry resounded once more:

"The Forest of Dreams has vanished!"

The lord's body trembled as he lifted his gaze—he saw it with his own eyes. The forest had truly disappeared, leaving only the immense and unyielding walls behind.

He advanced swiftly, standing before the hundred soldiers who had taken the front line. They cried out as one, their voices trembling with both fear and determination:

"My lord! Please fall back! Let us take the front!"

But the city lord roared, furious:

"No more retreat! Ready yourselves, brave warriors!"

A fierce heat ignited within the soldiers' chests, their blood boiling like molten lava. They gripped their weapons tightly and roared together:

"Yes, my lord!"

A heavy silence hung in the air… and then came the explosion.

A devastating strike crashed against the colossal iron gate, shaking the land with a thunderous boom like crashing thunder. The soldiers flinched in shock, one stammering in disbelief:

"This gate… it's strong enough to withstand the attacks of a high-tier Sky Realm cultivator! It can't possibly break so easily… M-My lord, should we open it?"

Lu Sa replied sharply:

"Wait…"

But before seconds could pass, a crimson aura poured out from the gate—twisting, writhing like a gigantic serpent from the depths of hell. It surged toward the soldiers, engulfing them, stealing the breath from their lungs. It was an evil, malevolent aura, as if drawn from the very bowels of the abyss.

Sai Mo shuddered as it enveloped him. Even in the Realm of Yin and Yang, his body froze—paralyzed by that cursed presence. The aura forced old memories of Hayden to surface, but the realization hit him like a hammer: Hayden's darkness was child's play compared to this monstrous power.

He clenched his teeth, gathering his strength, then dashed toward Lord Lu Sa, standing firmly by his side. The lord didn't question who he was—he could feel the immense power within him, and his presence brought a strange comfort amid the nightmare.

Then came the second strike.

The colossal iron gate shattered in a single blow, swinging open with a deafening crash. Dust filled the air, and from within the haze emerged a shadow, advancing slowly.

Lu Sa's grip tightened on his golden spear, yet fear invaded his heart: Don't attack… if you do, you will die.

Sai Mo stood firm beside him, his body like an unyielding wall, though his instincts screamed within: Run, for the love of the gods, run!

Most of the soldiers stood paralyzed, crushed beneath the weight of that terrifying aura, unable even to raise their weapons.

Then, in the darkness—a red spark flickered to life. A single, burning eye that seared the soul. Lu Sa looked into it, and what he saw was not fire—but a cold hell, one that froze the spirit rather than burning it. Ice crept through his veins.

The figure stepped forward—a tall young man, long hair cascading over his shoulders, with only one arm and one eye. He carried two lifeless bodies slung over his shoulder, dragging his feet with heavy, deliberate steps.

He stopped before Sai Mo, dropped the corpses to the ground, then unsheathed a pitch-black sword and lunged at him with blinding speed.

The needles behind Sai Mo's back trembled and shot forward in defense—but the young man's lips curled into a grim smile. He swung his blade with astonishing swiftness, cutting through the needles as if slicing thin threads. His single eye darted rapidly, tracking each needle's path, dodging some with fluid grace and cleaving others in half in one effortless motion.

Sai Mo's heart trembled—never before had he felt such helplessness. He had trained his entire life alongside Hayden, but now he realized Hayden had never once unleashed his full strength upon him—never once revealed his true darkness. Now, he faced a savage opponent beyond mercy.

Every last needle shattered, and the young man charged directly at Sai Mo, delivering a powerful kick. Sai Mo's body was flung like a rag doll; his instincts failed him, paralyzed by sheer terror.

He crashed toward the soldiers, who caught him with alarm—they didn't know who he was, but they knew he fought for their side.

At that moment, the young man opened his mouth wide and released a scream that tore through the heavens like a blade—or so everyone who heard it felt. It wasn't a human cry, but a blend of pain, fury, and despair—a long, drawn-out roar ripped from the depths of a shattered soul:

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

The very sky trembled at the sound, and the ground quaked beneath their feet. It was the howl of a broken demon, stripped of mercy, his inner wounds erupting into a hellish melody that shattered all who heard it. It was a cry of grief… yet deadly. The scream of a man who had lost everything that tethered him to life.

His single eye convulsed violently, on the verge of bursting from the storm of rage and madness within. Red sparks flared inside it—like living embers—and suddenly, his gaze snapped toward the city lord.

In the blink of an eye, he charged with insane speed—his steps vanishing from sight. His sword flashed like a streak of darkness, and in one swift motion, he severed the horse's neck. Hot blood gushed forth as Lu Sa and the dying steed collapsed to the ground.

Lu Sa raised his spear shakily, hands trembling as he tried to defend himself—but before he could even draw breath, a chilling coldness kissed his neck. The sword's edge rested against his skin—cold as death itself.

The young man lifted his gaze toward the soldiers and the lord, his single burning eye blazing with unquenchable fury—fury and contempt so intense it cut deeper than any blade. Each man felt his heart being torn apart from within.

Then, his voice exploded—deep, thunderous, shattering bodies before it even reached their ears:

"Who the hell are you people?! Where are my mother and siblings?!"

The soldiers' swords quivered in their hands, terror crawling through their veins.

Then came his second roar—deeper, colder, like the decree of death itself:

"Tell me now… or I'll tear you all to pieces!"
