Chapter 9 - Chapter 9:Cruel Past,Part (1/2)

On a cold afternoon, a hooded boy was struggling to make his way home. The freezing air, the snow, and the ice made every step harder. All he could think was that he might not make it—at least, that's what he believed.

Collapsed on the ground, he saw a maid reach out her hand to him. It was none other than his little sister, Alice, who carried Mat back to their home.

Once inside the mansion, Mat sat with a warm towel and a cup of coffee while his sister sang him a gentle melody. Curious, Mat asked her how she knew he was in trouble.

His sister answered with a playful smile, "Oh, I'm a robot. I saw you getting covered in snow through the city's cameras, haha." Mat warned her not to do that, fearing she could get hacked. But Alice replied that it was impossible—because she was, according to her, invincible.

At that moment, Mat's father, Mateo, entered the room. He ordered Alice to return to work. She hid her displeasure behind a faint smile and obeyed immediately.

Later that afternoon, Alice and Mat were in the basement having a pretend picnic. Looking out the window, Alice asked Mat what the flying balls of fire in the sky were.

Mat explained they were fireworks. Alice was amazed at their beauty. Smiling, he told her it was already New Year's Eve. Soon after, they went outside together, lighting rockets to celebrate what would be their last days together.

The next day, Mat witnessed Alice arguing with Mateo downstairs. Watching closely, he realized his father was drunk. Rushing down, he confronted him. Alice told Mat that Mateo had touched her inappropriately. Furious, Mat demanded his father go to bed, but Mateo refused. In the end, the bodyguard had to force him away.

After things settled, Mat got dressed for the university. Despite being only fifteen, he had already finished all previous levels—he was a prodigy. Still, to make sure Alice would be safe, he left Cristiana in charge of watching over her.

Cristiana, once a mercenary, was both strong and brilliant. Now she worked as Mat's bodyguard. Meeting Alice, she hugged her happily, charmed by her sweetness, though Alice only felt uncomfortable.

Later, Cristiana prepared to begin her duties when she was suddenly called to retrieve a suitcase. At first, she refused, saying she was busy, but her boss insisted—it was urgent.

Worried about leaving her post, Cristiana hesitated. Alice then suggested they go together. Although Cristiana was doubtful, Alice reassured her that she could take care of herself. That was enough to convince her.

For the very first time, Alice stepped outside. Amazed by the world beyond, she felt something stir within her—her freedom was finally beginning.
