Jake's eyes snapped open.
They weren't human anymore. Not fully beast either.
They shimmered — deep, voided scarlet — cold and unreadable, like they could see through flesh and straight into the soul.
The air changed. Ozone burned in the nostrils.
The wooden floor beneath him cracked, splinters flinging out like sharp teeth.
Silence followed.
Breaths held. Muscles locked.
The entire room seemed to freeze around him.
"Who—" Scar started, but the word died as Jake turned his head.
Slowly, he rose — not prey, not victim.
Not boy.
Above, through the shattered ceiling, the moon hung heavy — a swollen blood moon, staring down like an ancient judge.
Jake tilted his head up.
And howled.
The sound tore from his chest like something primal and long-caged — wild, broken, and impossibly loud. It shook the air.
It changed it.
Far away in the forest, werewolves snapped their heads up mid-hunt.
A lone wolf on a mountain peak froze, eyes wide.
In Blood Island—
"「あれは一体なんだ?」 (Are wa ittai nan da?)"
"What in the world is that"
Mikasa rose from her seat, panic flashing in her eyes.
Around her, pack members trembled. Something ancient stirred in their bones.
In the Land of the Shadows—
Verek stood atop a jagged cliff, wind tearing at his cloak.
"He has returned," he said, voice low and certain.
All of them heard it.
All of them felt it.
And then — it began.
Every wolf that wasn't an Alpha was forced to shift.
Bones cracked. Claws ripped through skin. The call was too powerful, too commanding to resist. And they all howled at the moon.
The Apex had awakened.
His fur was darker than the night itself — not massive like others, but somehow more terrifying.
Power radiated off him in waves.
His stance was low, coiled, predatory.
Claws long and black like obsidian, glinting under the flickering light.
He didn't need size.
He was Apex.
The room fell into a silence so heavy it pressed on every chest.
Hunter stepped back instinctively, eyes locked on Jake's new form — not massive, not hulking like the other Alphas or werewolves… but radiating something far more dangerous. Power. Control. Rage.
Scar froze, claws still dripping.
The air felt thicker. The lights above flickered. Even the house seemed to feel the presence.
Jake didn't growl.
He just stared.
Then he stepped forward. One slow, deliberate motion.
Scar took half a step back — just one — but it was enough.
Hunter whispered, almost to himself, "This… this isn't possible."
Jake's voice came, deeper, laced with something ancient and cracked like thunder:
"Step. Away."
The sound wasn't loud. But it echoed. Inside them.
Scar's jaw clenched. His pride flared — but his instincts screamed louder.
He couldn't move.
No one could.
Not yet.
Scar's fingers twitched. His body screamed run, but his pride — that damn pride — pushed him one step forward.
Just one.
Then the world blurred.
In a blink — less than a blink — Jake was in front of him... looking down on him.
No sound. No movement. Just there.
Scar flinched violently, stumbling back.
His eyes widened, chest rising fast.
"How?"
He'd been watching. He never looked away.
Jake didn't speak. He just growled — low, deep, and primal. It wasn't loud, but it rattled in Scar's ribs like thunder underwater.
Scar's bravado crumbled into something rawer: fear… and confusion.
"I… I didn't see him move," he whispered.
Jake stepped forward again — slower this time, letting Scar feel every ounce of that pressure.
Hunter watched in stunned silence, every hair on his arms standing on end.
Jake didn't roar. Didn't leap.
He advanced — slow, deliberate… inevitable.
Scar tried to shake it off, forcing his claws out. "I'm not scared of you."
But his voice cracked — trembling under the weight of something he couldn't explain.
Jake's eyes narrowed, cold and unreadable.
He raised a claw—ready to end it.
Then he stopped.
Something shifted.
His ears twitched. His eyes flicked toward the front door. A presence—strong, unfamiliar, and threatening—crept into the edges of his senses.
Jake turned slightly, hackles raised, posture tight. He didn't attack.
He waited
