Chapter 22
Elora's POV
The moment I stepped into the party hall, I knew I had made a mistake.
The music was loud enough to make the floor vibrate beneath my heels, and the flashing lights painted everyone in colors that did not feel real. Laughter echoed from every corner, sharp and careless, like nothing in the world could ever touch them. I stood near the entrance for a few seconds, trying to calm the sudden tightness in my chest.
I felt exposed. I could see some guys who were staring immediately I had walked in, but I tried so hard to pretend like I couldn't see them.
Avoiding eye contact with everyone today.
My dress suddenly felt shorter than it did when I tried it on. My heels felt higher. My breathing felt heavier.
I forced myself to move forward.
You are not weak, I told myself silently.
