[The General Hospital]
The slow rhythmic beeping sound of different machine filled the hospital room.
Nurses clad in immaculate white moved with a sense of urgency as the doctor scribbled down some new intravenous medication for the patient.
On the hospital bed, Donna lay unconscious, her once lively face drained of all the colour.
Several wires and an IV drip line were taped on either side of her arm and an oxygen mask sat comfortably on her nose and mouth, keeping her breathing steady.
A few inches beside her bed, Derek stood, transfixed on a spot as he watched the doctor scribble down another medication which he instructed the nurse to administer to the patient in regulated doses.
"This is all my fault." Derek muttered under his breath, a suffocating weight crushing his heart. "If only I had kept my mouth shut." His reddened eyes lingered on his mother's face as he whispered.
"I'm sorry, mom."
