Chapter 126: The Beginning of the Decisive Battle
"The black mist here carries a power similar to erosion," Serie said after carefully sensing the surrounding darkness. "If one remains exposed to it for too long, it seems they will endlessly sink into the mist, eventually becoming one with it."
"No wonder countless people have entered this black mist over the years, yet none have emerged; they were probably all devoured by it."
The only thing Kurtz didn't understand was which deity's magic power this place belonged to.
Godfall Land, as the name suggested, was where a deity had once fallen.
But which deity's magic power would have such an effect?
"Is there a possibility?" Norn proposed a guess. "The deity who fell here was the Fertility Goddess?"
Kurtz stopped, carefully considering the validity of Norn's words.
It was indeed possible.
The Fertility Goddess's divine power possessed an erosive force.
Even though the Life Goddess had killed her, this power had still corrupted her opponent, and through long-term dormancy and accumulation, it had eventually succeeded in eroding the Life Goddess's mind, achieving a different kind of reincarnation within her body.
Kurtz felt he was vaguely touching upon the truth.
And the way to prove Norn's guess was simple: find the Goddess's will-body imprisoned here. Then, all truths would be revealed.
In the darkness, time seemed to lose its meaning, and the black mist, which sent chills straight to one's core, permeated their barrier through every crevice.
Only the glow of the Holy Sword and their heavy breathing reminded them that they were still moving forward.
After walking for an unknown period, the swirling black mist ahead suddenly thinned and gradually disappeared entirely. An indescribable light appeared before them.
It was a vast and bizarre space. Even though nothing was illuminating around them, and dense black mist hung above, the area was brightly lit, as if something inherently was light, illuminating the entire space.
This could be said to be the heart of Godfall Land: a void forcibly torn open and constantly fracturing due to some powerful force.
As they stepped forward, the ground beneath their feet was no longer solid earth, but something akin to crystallised void.
Kurtz saw at a glance that the Fertility Goddess was transforming this place, allowing the space to bear her divine power temporarily, and even permitting her true divine body to descend for a moment.
And this was exactly the scene Kurtz wanted to see.
Even if the Fertility Goddess hadn't planned for this, he would have helped her.
One could only say fate had brought the two to the same consensus.
The Fertility Goddess hoped this space could temporarily house her true form, thereby harnessing a deity's terrifying power to crush these annoying little insects completely.
Kurtz, on the other hand, hoped to pull the Goddess's actual body down from beyond that world, weaken her, and then let her face death once more.
Moreover, this space was not empty. Scattered around were fragments of ancient architecture that looked remarkably similar to the Fertility Goddess's temple they had visited before.
These temple fragments, discarded as if casually thrown, resembled the bones of giants, forming a desolate yet unique graveyard belonging to a deity.
In the centre of the space floated a massive cage, woven by the Life Goddess using her last bit of power after awakening.
This enormous cage imprisoned the Fertility Goddess's will-body, along with the will of her main body, preventing her from ever returning beyond the world.
Even the Fertility Goddess hadn't expected the Life Goddess to have such a final gambit.
The countless light beams forming the cage originated from the purest source of power of a deity. Even the Fertility Goddess couldn't break through it immediately and could only slowly wear it down.
At the core of the cage, a familiar figure was imprisoned.
It was indeed the Fertility Goddess's will-body.
She occupied the Life Goddess's physical form, appearing externally as a sacred and nurturing maternal embodiment.
But this was not the Fertility Goddess's true appearance.
Therefore, this maternal form would occasionally twist into a solemn figure with a cold expression radiating overwhelming pressure.
Thatwas the true appearance of the Fertility Goddess.
However, her body was entwined with the unique dark aura of demons. Clearly, while forging a patronage relationship with demons, their dark influence had had an inverse effect on the deity herself.
The moment Kurtz, gripping his blade, stepped into this space, the imprisoned figure suddenly lifted her head.
Two spiritual voices, containing different wills, resounded directly in the depths of everyone's souls.
"You have come, fated one."
"Indeed, you have still come here, God-Slayer!"
The former voice carried a hint of pleading, as if she had known Kurtz for a long time and had been expecting his arrival.
"The Life Goddess?" Kurtz murmured.
This voice carried an indescribable gentleness, while the latter was a curse filled with endless malice.
Clearly, both Goddesses had been awaiting his arrival.
But eventually, the will of the former was completely devoured by the latter, and the cold will precisely locked its sharp focus onto Kurtz.
"God-Slayer."
These words carried immense weight, shattering all silence in the space.
Everyone silently gripped their weapons, preparing to face the impending storm.
Kurtz tightened his grip on his blade, and the light emanating from it surged, barely dispelling the mental malice that assailed them.
The Fertility Goddess stared intently at Kurtz; extreme emotions churned within her.
"If you don't mind, could you explain the truth to me?" Kurtz suddenly spoke, catching everyone off guard.
But Serie noticed that his right hand, hidden behind his back, was subtly weaving a small magic circle.
The others also noticed this but made no move, allowing Kurtz to stall for time.
The Fertility Goddess, of course, knew the God-Slayer before her was buying time, but her true body's descent also required preparation.
Both sides, harbouring the same intentions, were playing the same game.
"What do you want to know?"
At this moment, the two sides, originally at each other's throats, unexpectedly began to converse calmly.
But everyone knew this was merely the brief calm before the coming storm.
"What is your relationship with the Life Goddess?"
"We shared the same origin, wielded life's authority together, until that bitch betrayed me! She wanted all that power for herself!"
Ignoring the Fertility Goddess's resentful words, Kurtz continued: "Then, is this where your final battle took place?"
"Yes! That woman thought she'd completely killed me, but as long as my will remains, I'll never truly die!"
Kurtz couldn't help but feel a headache upon hearing her last sentence.
It seemed he would still have to guard against her erosion even before her death.
"Do you have any other questions? Ask them now, as this will be your last chance to speak."
Facing the Fertility Goddess's confident demeanour, as if she had already seen the future, Kurtz merely smiled, then activated the magic array, sending a pre-arranged signal to the distant Elf Kingdom.
