Chapter 345: Based Solely on Intuition
On the tower of the Magic Association, not far away, Olivia and Serie were looking in the direction from which the explosion came.
With their strength, even without deliberately releasing their senses, they could detect such a violent energy eruption in the core area of the capital immediately.
Especially that elf lady who claimed not to care, but was actually secretly releasing a wide-range detection spell.
As Frieren's elemental attack forcefully broke through the magic barrier, not only did Evan's temporary teammates on the scene turn green, but also Serie in the distance.
A look of astonishment flashed across her delicate face, followed by an obvious surge of anger in her beautiful golden eyes, and her expression darkened.
Because Olivia had sent herself to guard the area, Serie naturally wouldn't go into battle herself. Instead, she used detection magic to remotely sense what was happening in the area where Evan and the others were, serving as both a supervisor and a precaution.
But she never expected them to choose such a direct approach!
The violent fluctuations of lightning elemental magic and the energy turbulence generated when the barrier shattered not only instantly alarmed the entire Earl's mansion but also woke several surrounding blocks from their slumber in the darkness.
In an instant, chaos erupted. Lights were turned on in many houses, and to make matters worse, squads of fully armed guards were rushing toward the source of the riot, leaving the streets in complete disarray.
"These idiots!" Serie gritted her teeth and squeezed out a few words.
She didn't care how much trouble these foolish disciples' actions would cause the capital; what truly angered her was their behavior.
In Serie's opinion, they should use magic to infiltrate, avoid those powerful beings, and quietly kidnap the target nobleman.
She had also taught them some magic to conceal their presence beforehand, so that they could complete the mission better.
But they chose a fighting style that was least suited to them.
Could it be that they know Olivia is protecting them, which is why they are so fearless?
Olivia, however, seemed quite calm about this. She looked at the chaotic scene in the distance, even a helpless smile appearing on her lips, and shook her head, saying, "Now, Leggett is going to have a splitting headache. He might come to the association with dark circles under his eyes tomorrow morning to complain to us."
According to the tacit agreement they reached with Leggett, Olivia and Serie would take charge of identifying the nobles involved in the pursuit of immortality magic and who even dared to plot attacks against them.
Leggett was responsible for the subsequent trial and proceedings.
They could either strip him of his title and all his property and exile him to the harsh northern frontier, or imprison him in the depths of a dark dungeon and find an opportunity to execute him directly.
This would both eliminate internal corruption and maintain the empire's outward stability to the greatest extent possible, preventing these desperate nobles from instigating a rebellion in the capital's core and harming innocent civilians.
But now that Frieren had made such a big fuss, it had undoubtedly added a lot of trouble to Leggett's subsequent actions.
Now, even those nobles who weren't involved in this matter were probably getting restless.
Serie didn't care whether Leggett had a headache. "Don't let me find out which idiot came up with this way of breaking the barrier! Otherwise, she'll be in big trouble!"
Upon hearing this, Olivia's smile deepened. She turned to look at the sulking elf beside her and teased, "Is there any need to guess? Among those little ones, besides Frieren, who else could unleash such powerful lightning elemental magic?"
Serie pursed her lips and didn't reply.
In fact, when she sensed that familiar yet powerful magical fluctuation, she had already vaguely guessed that it was Frieren's doing.
But she really didn't want to believe it, or rather, she couldn't accept it.
She always viewed her junior, Frieren, with the utmost malice.
In her opinion, Frieren was dull-witted, even to the point of being somewhat slow-witted, but she did have some combat experience. However, she never expected her opponent to be so idiotic!
Then it suddenly occurred to her, "Something's not right! With Frieren's level of magic, she shouldn't be able to unleash such a powerful magical attack! This is a bit like... a bit like it's been enhanced by a magical artifact."
Serie cast a suspicious glance at Olivia.
She remembered that this woman had said she had given Frieren many magical items to prevent Frieren and Evan from having problems during the mission.
Olivia nodded frankly. "Yes, she did use the magical item I gave her."
Serie was speechless, but she couldn't blame Olivia, so she turned her anger on someone else.
"That girl Flamme—how does she even teach her apprentice?!" Serie muttered under her breath.
Meanwhile, in the association's basement, Flamme, who was using magic to investigate the composition of Solis's body, sneezed.
"Is Frieren talking about me? I wonder how her mission is going? But with Senior Olivia with her, there shouldn't be any problems!"
After finishing her thought, Flamme continued with her research.
Meanwhile, after complaining about her disciple, a thought involuntarily popped into Serie's mind.
Perhaps I shouldn't have listened to Olivia back then and taught Frieren myself?
Given her ability to teach apprentices, how could she possibly produce such a reckless and impulsive person who only knew how to act blindly?
Miss Elf was very confident in her ability to teach apprentices; little did she know that she had only successfully taught two apprentices so far, one of whom she taught together with Olivia.
But Serie subconsciously ignored these things.
She felt that if she were to teach Frieren herself, she could teach her to be even better and definitely make her a qualified mage.
Unfortunately, Olivia was adamant about it and directly appointed Flamme to be in charge of teaching Frieren, what was that woman planning back then?
Thinking of this, Serie couldn't help but ask, "Why did you insist on entrusting Frieren to Flamme's teaching in the first place? If I had taught her, things would never be like this now."
Olivia seemed to have anticipated her question. She withdrew her gaze from the distance and pondered for a moment. "There's no particular reason. It's just a feeling—the two of them are destined to be master and disciple."
"Huh?!" Serie was speechless at this almost mystical answer.
What kind of ridiculous excuse is that?!
"You might as well just use your future-seeing magic to tell me that you foresaw their destined master-disciple relationship! That might convince me more!" The elf girl pouted, looking rather unhappy.
Just as Serie was getting frustrated by Olivia's strange answer, a powerful energy fluctuation came from the direction of the Earl's mansion in the distance!
A holy spear, like divine punishment, descended from the sky, effortlessly shattering the barrier that had imprisoned Evan and the others.
