Chapter 27 - Gwen's Story

Gwen gathered her thoughts upon hearing Meng Ran's question, then began to speak.

This happened during the summer vacation.

That day, Gwen and her family went out to play together. They visited many places, tasted a lot of delicious food, and also took her younger siblings to some museums and science and technology centers.

Because it was a long-awaited family outing, Gwen had a great time. George, as the police chief, was usually quite busy and didn't have many opportunities to spend time with his family.

That night, after returning home, Gwen went to take a shower and suddenly discovered a wound on her neck. It was small, but slightly red and swollen.

Gwen didn't pay much attention at the time, thinking she'd been bitten by a mosquito.

However, after going to bed that night, Gwen felt her whole body burning up, like a cooked shrimp, hot and burning.

Her head was also dizzy and heavy, completely turned into a mess, the dizziness made her want to throw up, but she couldn't no matter what.

Gwen couldn't call out to her family either, tossing and turning unconsciously in bed, miserable all night.

It wasn't until the next morning that she slowly regained consciousness.

The first thing Gwen noticed upon waking was that her room was a complete mess. The bed and her clothes were soaked with sweat, emitting a sour stench.

The tables and chairs in the room were inexplicably torn to pieces, and there was webbing hanging on the walls, seemingly from nowhere.

Gwen didn't know how to explain the state of her room to her family, so she quickly cleaned up to avoid being discovered.

She changed the bedsheets and duvet cover, not daring to dwell on the oddities of the room, and threw away the broken chairs and webbing.

The table was too big to deal with easily, so she explained to her family that it was of poor quality and that she was going to replace it.

After getting everything in order, Gwen locked herself in her room to think about these strange occurrences.

Gwen stripped off her clothes and went into the bathroom for a thorough check-up, discovering that the wound on her neck had vanished without a trace.

She also noticed that her figure had improved, and she'd grown a bit taller.

"Your figure was already pretty good," Meng Ran suddenly interjected.

"Don't interrupt. Besides, you don't even know what I used to look like," Gwen retorted, rolling her eyes at Meng Ran.

Meng Ran had no choice but to shut up.

After her shower, Gwen also realized that her strength was increasing.

When she got up this morning, she had felt weak and sore.

But as time passed, she found that not only had her body's strength returned to normal, but it was also getting stronger and stronger, even to an exaggerated degree.

She tried to lift the bed, but she didn't control her strength well and almost flipped it onto the ceiling.

This scared her so much that she stood still, not daring to move. She didn't dare touch things, nor did she dare to interact with her family, fearing she would hurt them accidentally.

She could only say she had homework and asked her family to leave food at her door. Then, she stayed in her room, trying to control her strength.

It took her two days to finally control her strength, allowing her to function normally in daily life, but she couldn't get excited.

It was fortunate that it only took two days; otherwise, her family would have started to worry if she was sick or had some psychological problem.

After slowly overcoming the strength problem, Gwen stepped out of her room and discovered another issue.

Her senses had become incredibly sharp. Every tiny sound escaped her ears, and she could see the movement trajectories of fast-moving objects.

Earlier, while in her room, her attention was focused on her strength, and there wasn't much noise, so she hadn't realized it.

Afterward, Gwen spent several more days controlling her senses, trying to ignore the irrelevant, chaotic information to lighten her load.

In the following days, Gwen made new discoveries daily, spending each day getting used to and controlling her abilities.

Once, George came to find Gwen, but when he opened the door, he didn't see her. However, Gwen was actually sitting on the edge of the bed. This led Gwen to discover her Ghost Stealth ability.

Another time, she was thinking about a problem as she entered a room. When she came back to her senses, she realized she was standing on the roof.

There were many other similar instances. Finally, after some unexpected events, she discovered her other abilities.

For example, shooting Webbing from her wrists, Ghost Warning, and her Toxin.

After gaining these abilities, Gwen continued to live her life as usual.

It wasn't until she saw the appearance of an Evil Ghost that Gwen was somewhat moved, wondering if she could use her abilities to fight crime.

But at the time, it was just a fleeting thought. Later, when the Evil Ghost was judging Ur, and the internet was in an uproar, Gwen suddenly felt some sympathy for this lonely seeker of justice.

It was then that Gwen decided to join the path of upholding justice, also hoping to tell the Evil Ghost that it didn't have to be so extreme.

Having made up her mind, Gwen found Mary Jane, because of her high computer skills, which could provide Gwen with a lot of help.

So, at Gwen's invitation, Mary Jane joined her team.

The Ghost Spider's Battle Suit also referenced the Evil Ghost's battle suit, such as the hood; Gwen also thought a bald head was a bit ugly.

Meng Ran listened to Gwen's explanation, first acknowledging it by saying, "A bald head without a hood is indeed very ugly."

Then, remembering something, he asked with some surprise, "You also have Toxin?"

Because the Venom's possession wouldn't necessarily copy all abilities, especially for a target like Gwen, who had a lot of abilities, Meng Ran didn't know all of Gwen's abilities.

Gwen knew he had the ability to use Webbing, but he truly didn't know about Toxin. He hadn't felt it during their previous fight.

Gwen replied, "Yes, a toxin that paralyzes nerves. Although it's not lethal, it can quickly incapacitate someone."

"I haven't used it many times."

"Currently, I mainly release it using my fingernails and palms."

"As for whether the power of the Toxin will increase in the future, I'm not sure right now."

After hearing Gwen's explanation, Meng Ran was still a little puzzled: "Then, didn't you use it during our last fight? I didn't feel anything."

Gwen also wore a helpless expression, "I'd like to know why it didn't work. I definitely used the Toxin, but you didn't seem to be affected."

Meng Ran suddenly understood. That should be due to Venom's doing. Thinking of this, Meng Ran asked Venom, "Why didn't you tell me last time?"

Venom listened to Meng Ran's words and blinked, looking confused. "Huh, I... I didn't feel anything!"

"Huh?" Meng Ran and Gwen tilted their heads, looking at Venom.

Venom blinked again, one hand rubbing its chin in a very human way.

After thinking for a moment, Venom suddenly said, "Oh! I remember now, you mean that thing? I didn't feel any threat at the time, so I didn't say anything. And then I forgot about it."

"To be honest, its taste is better than gunpowder, but only a little bit. I didn't taste much, mmm..."

Before Venom could finish speaking, Meng Ran covered its mouth.

Meng Ran laughed awkwardly. "Haha, haha, it's nothing. I feel that Toxin definitely has room for improvement."

Gwen looked at Meng Ran and Venom, unable to help but laugh. "Why are you so nervous? I don't mind. Although Toxin is useless against you, it's still very effective against others."

Meng Ran nodded and said, "That's true, but you still can't be careless. Although we both have abilities that are different from ordinary people, we still need to be cautious. After all, you only have one life."

"And I don't want you to get hurt. It would break my heart."

Gwen nodded in agreement as she listened to Meng Ran.

Although that black man hadn't hurt her today, failing to disarm him was indeed a lapse in judgment. This time, the oversight wouldn't cost her life, but what about next time? It was better to be cautious.

But when she heard Meng Ran say he would be heartbroken, Gwen couldn't help but blush again, turning her head to glare at Meng Ran in a coquettish way.

"You smooth talker. And you say Venom didn't learn it from you."

Meng Ran just chuckled at that.

"Oh, right, I have a gift for you." Meng Ran said suddenly, then took out a small black sphere.

The sphere looked solid, but you could see ripples like water moving across its surface.

Gwen asked curiously, "What is this?"

Meng Ran explained to Gwen, "This is a high-tech product. After you bind with it, it can transform into whatever you want, like a Battle Suit."

"Normally, it's hidden inside your body. When you need it, it will cover your entire body. It's very convenient and has strong defensive capabilities."

"Basically, ordinary bullets and cold weapons won't cause you any harm."

"If it's something like a machine gun, you might get some minor injuries, but it still won't penetrate."

"If it's a rocket launcher, I suggest you dodge it."

Gwen listened to Meng Ran's explanation and her eyes widened, she exclaimed in surprise, "This is amazing!"

Meng Ran nodded and continued, "You need to drip a drop of blood on it for identification. It's like a Gene Lock; no one else can use it."

Gwen also chimed in, "I know this. I've read Chinese webnovels online. That's how magical artifacts work."

Meng Ran was immediately speechless: "Well, you could say that."

"Now that's explained, let's try it." Meng Ran handed the sphere to Gwen, then prepared to start the operation.

This sphere was redeemed from the shop by Meng Ran. It was of the same type as the one he had, but because his was a system reward, its quality was a bit higher.

But unexpectedly, Gwen shook her head and handed the sphere back.

Gwen said softly, "I'm sorry, I can't accept it, Meng. This is too precious."

Meng Ran looked at Gwen's serious expression and smiled gently, "You're scared by what I said. Actually, it's not precious at all. I have a lot of these things."

"And I've always wanted to make up for my mistake. If you don't accept it, I'll feel guilty."

Gwen wanted to refuse, but seeing Meng Ran's persistence, she had to say, "Alright then."

She immediately revealed a happy smile: "Thank you! Meng, even though you say that, I know it certainly isn't as cheap as you say. It's really useful."

Meng Ran looked at Gwen and chuckled slyly, "Don't mention thanks, it's too formal. Just kiss me."

After saying that, Meng Ran turned his face to Gwen.

Gwen's face turned into a red apple again.

Then, after hesitating for a moment, she gently kissed Meng Ran on the cheek.

Feeling the soft touch on his face, Meng Ran smiled so happily that he couldn't close his mouth.

Gwen snorted and turned away, pretending to admire the night view. She didn't want Meng Ran to see her blush.

Meng Ran let out a chuckle and walked over to stand beside Gwen.

Under the dark night sky, the two of them looked at the distant horizon together, their bodies unconsciously drawing closer.
