Chapter 93 - The New Element

In the lab, Tony shoved the last bite of his donut into his mouth, washed it down with the remaining coffee, wiped his lips, and said energetically, "Alright, time to get to work!"

He pulled the cloth off the model in front of him, blew away the thin layer of dust, and carefully examined the miniature of the futuristic city beneath it.

"All secrets will be revealed," Tony muttered as he paced around the model.

Suddenly, he stopped, crouching down to take a closer look at a small wooden plaque on the model's edge.

On it was engraved a single sentence: "The key to the future lies here."

Tony narrowed his eyes. In that instant, all the scattered clues in his mind connected as one.

"Jarvis, project a full holographic rendering of the model. Show me every possible angle," Tony said, rubbing his chin. "I need a manipulatable display."

"Importing the 1974 Stark Expo model," Jarvis replied."The holographic projections from multiple perspectives are ready, sir."

Before Tony, several projections of the futuristic city shimmered into existence.

He examined each one carefully, then fixed his gaze on the top-down view, a thoughtful expression spreading across his face.

"Jarvis, what does this look like to you?" he asked.

But before the AI could respond, Tony answered himself."It looks like… an atom."

"The atomic nucleus should be right here." He pointed at the globe in the model's center.

"Highlight the large sphere," Tony instructed. The holographic globe zoomed in.

He took a few steps back for a better view, then said after a pause, "Remove the pathways. All of them."

"What are you trying to achieve, sir?" Jarvis asked curiously.

Tony smiled faintly. "I'm trying to… well, rediscover a new element."

As he spoke, he continued issuing commands. "Get rid of the landscaping—bushes, trees, parking lots, entrances, exits. All of it.Then use the pavilions as the framework—build the protons and neutrons from there."

Under his rapid manipulation, the entire projection became simpler, cleaner, more precise.

Moments later, a blue, glowing atomic structure appeared before him.

Tony's eyes widened slightly. Then, spreading his hands, he expanded the image outward.

Tiny specks of light appeared in the air, neatly aligning into a stable configuration—a completely new element never before seen by humanity.

Tony stood within the constellation of glowing blue lights, quietly studying their formation, saying nothing.

Surrounded by this serene, starlit brilliance, a faint, warm smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.

Then, closing his hands, he condensed the glowing structure into a small particle, holding the newborn element in his palm.

"You've been gone for twenty years," he said softly, smiling, "but you're still teaching me lessons. Thank you, Dad."

Jarvis's voice chimed in, "Sir, the new element you've discovered should be capable of replacing the palladium in your arc reactor. However, it appears we currently have no way to synthesize it."

Tony nodded thoughtfully, then stood up, his voice ringing with determination. "Then it's time for a major renovation. Let's work up a sweat!"

Over the next several hours, the villa—already battered by two Iron Man suits during past battles—endured another round of heavy punishment.

Tony drilled hole after hole into the walls and floors, installing new pipes and machinery he had just brought in.

Just as he was adjusting the balance of the reactor conduits, Coulson pushed open the lab door and stepped inside.

"Looks like you've got it figured out," Coulson said, watching Tony work.

"Oh, absolutely. Thanks for the coffee and donuts, by the way—they really helped recharge my sugar levels," Tony replied without looking up.

Coulson glanced around and suddenly noticed something half-buried in a wooden crate.

"Wait a minute… how did this end up here?" he asked, picking up a battered model of Captain America's shield—half the star flaked off.

"This is—" he started to say, but Tony cut him off, staring at the shield like he'd just spotted a goddess.

"Yes," Tony said immediately, "that's it."

"You… know what this is?" Coulson asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I do. It's useful," Tony replied without hesitation.

Coulson blinked, speechless.

Tony took the model from him. "Here, help me lift this pipe."

Following Tony's directions, Coulson heaved the pipe upward. Tony quickly slid the shield model underneath as a support.

Once it was perfectly wedged in place, Tony placed a level on top, saw that everything aligned, and nodded with satisfaction. "Perfect."

He looked up at Coulson. "So, what brings you here? I doubt it's just to have a heart-to-heart."

Coulson smiled. "Not exactly. I just came to say goodbye."

"I've been reassigned—to New Mexico. Someone new will take over for me."

Tony raised an eyebrow. "Ah, New Mexico. The Land of Enchantment."

"That's what they say," Coulson chuckled. "Good luck, Mr. Stark."

"You too. Hope the new guy's as easy to get along with as you," Tony replied with a grin.

"Don't count on them fetching you coffee," Coulson joked as they shook hands.

After Coulson left, Tony returned to his work, fully absorbed in the synthesis process.

Hours later, as the sun dipped below the horizon and night began to fall, Tony finally put down his wrench and removed his tinted glasses.

He turned toward the workbench where a small, triangular object rested—radiating a beautiful, deep blue glow.

Staring at it, Tony couldn't help but whisper, "Perfect. So this is the key to the future you talked about, huh, Dad?"

"Congratulations, sir," Jarvis said warmly. "You've just created a new element."

Tony gently picked up the glowing triangle and placed it into the newly built arc reactor.

The machine beeped several times, then stabilized.

"Sir, the reactor has accepted the updated core. Beginning diagnostics," Jarvis reported.

Tony smiled as he watched the soft light pulse—his new heart, his new life.

Finally, he'd solved the puzzle. No more palladium poisoning. No more slow death.

He slumped onto the sofa, utterly relieved. For weeks, he'd been living under the shadow of his own mortality. Now, he could finally breathe again.

Just then, the sound of a ringing phone filled the lab.

"Incoming call. Number blocked," Jarvis announced.

"Oh, great, I can answer my own calls again," Tony said, rolling his chair toward the console.

For days, all his communications had been monitored by S.H.I.E.L.D., and it had been ages since he'd actually picked up a call himself.

He pressed the button. "Hey, Coulson. How's the Land of Enchantment?"

Tony assumed it was Coulson checking in from New Mexico.

But the voice that came through was both familiar and foreign—male, deep, and carrying a thick Russian accent.

"Hey, Tony… how've you been?"
