Thunder roared, celebrating the birth of the one who now commanded lightning.
Meng Ran immediately closed his eyes again. When he opened them a moment later, the surging lightning in his eyes had vanished, and at the same time, the thunder in the sky had ceased.
Standing up, Meng Ran felt the new power coursing through him and a pleased expression spread across his face. In his mind, he thought, "I may not have lifted Thor's hammer, but I now possess the power of Thor."
"Indeed, this wild, violent power is absolutely intoxicating."
A faint smile curled at the corner of his lips. Right now, he felt capable of shattering an entire mountain in an instant.
With the possession complete and the most important matter concluded, Meng Ran prepared to head home, back to New York.
As for the destroyer likely to arrive later, controlled by Loki, Meng Ran had already made the necessary preparations.
He intended to contact Nick Fury shortly, so that they could evacuate the town and surrounding areas as soon as possible.
By the time the destroyer arrived, it would coincide with Thor regaining his full strength.
Once Thor regained his strength, dealing with that destroyer would require only a single strike of his hammer. Therefore, there was no reason for Meng Ran to linger here.
Thinking this, Meng Ran brought out his spaceship and boarded it, preparing to depart.
"Xiao Bai, contact Nick Fury for me. If you can't reach him, contact Coulson. I have something to discuss," Meng Ran said as he settled into his seat.
Xiao Bai replied, "Understood."
With that, Xiao Bai began working while Meng Ran sat back, gazing at the twinkling stars outside the glass canopy.
Soon, Xiao Bai's voice echoed again inside the cabin: "Boss, I've successfully contacted Phil Coulson for you."
At the same time, near the white tent area, Coulson was busy arranging various tasks.
Suddenly, the phone in his pocket rang, interrupting his work.
He waved the people around him back and pulled out the ringing phone.
Seeing an unfamiliar number on the screen, Coulson narrowed his eyes.
Without hesitation, he pressed the call button and put the phone to his ear.
"Who is this?" Coulson asked directly.
"Going straight to questions without any small talk?" Meng Ran replied, his voice hoarse.
"How did you get my number?" Coulson continued.
Meng Ran didn't want to waste time with small talk and said bluntly, "I'm under no obligation to answer your questions, Agent."
"I'm telling you one thing: evacuate everyone in and around this area as soon as possible. Tomorrow or the day after, this place will become a battlefield."
"Except for that blonde, muscular guy you just let go—he's the one the enemy is after."
"And that hammer? Forget about it. It isn't yours to claim."
"Also, you can call Nick Fury later about me; he will explain who I am."
"I think at that time, he'll tell you whether you should trust me, and then you can act accordingly."
"That's all I have to say. Goodbye."
Meng Ran didn't give Coulson a chance to speak further; after saying what he needed, he hung up.
Coulson held the phone in stunned silence, listening to the dial tone.
Recalling Meng Ran's words, he thought for a moment and then dialed a number.
"Coulson, what's going on so late? Something in New Mexico?" came a deep voice through the line.
Coulson said, "Director, I just received a call."
He then recounted the conversation he had just had with Meng Ran.
After listening, Nick Fury pondered for a moment and said, "Do as he said. Evacuate all civilians in the area, except for that blonde, muscular man."
"Forget about the hammer. Have our people withdraw as well. Just leave a few behind to monitor the situation."
"Director, won't this cause public panic? And why are we listening to that man? What if he has other motives?" Coulson asked, puzzled.
Fury replied, "You know him. His name is Ghost. Don't worry."
Because Fury knew Ghost wouldn't do anything trivial, especially since he had specifically contacted S.H.I.E.L.D. to coordinate this.
"Ghost! So he's Ghost!" Coulson said in surprise. He had never met or dealt with Ghost before.
Previously, when Fury went to see Ghost, Coulson was on another mission. Later, he had heard Natasha and Hawkeye talk about Ghost.
According to Natasha, Ghost was terrifying. While he had a strong sense of justice and dedicated himself to punishing evil, anyone who threatened him or meant him harm would face his jaws filled with sharp teeth—leaving no bones to chew.
Natasha's description wasn't an exaggeration; her instincts were sharp and accurate.
If anyone dared to act against Meng Ran on the rooftop, they wouldn't leave safely.
Meng Ran's principle toward his enemies had always been to eliminate them completely.
After finishing the call with Fury, Coulson immediately began organizing the evacuation.
"Load all facilities and equipment onto vehicles, then evacuate quickly."
"You, contact the local government. Make them act fast to evacuate the town and surrounding residents to safe locations."
"And make sure those who were on the surveillance mission keep their eyes on the target. Don't let them notice anything unusual."
Coulson methodically organized the evacuation, and as he observed everyone moving into action, a thoughtful look crossed his eyes.
Although he had no doubt about the orders now, he still wondered what kind of battle would erupt tomorrow.
How fierce would the fight need to be to require evacuating the entire town and nearby areas? Heavy artillery? Terrorists? And who exactly was that deliberately avoided blonde, muscular man?
Questions swirled in Coulson's mind as he tried to find answers.
After a while, he stopped pondering and instead looked toward Thor's location, silently thinking, "Let's see what happens tomorrow."
