Chapter 107 - What is the Answer?

Meng Ran looked at the somewhat stunned Banner in front of him and spoke first: "Hello, Dr. Banner. I am Ghost."

Banner, hearing Ghost's self-introduction, nodded somewhat blankly, then replied, "Hello, I'm Banner. I've also seen you online."

After that, Banner hesitated and asked, "Have we met before?"

Meng Ran smiled and said, "You could say we have, though back then you looked a little different."

Banner understood immediately. So he must have interacted with Meng Ran while transforming into the Hulk.

After that, an awkward silence fell over the room. Thor, Banner, and Meng Ran all didn't know what to say, just standing or sitting there quietly.

"Uh… if you don't mind, could you help me find some clothes?"

Finally, Banner broke the silence, addressing the two of them.

"Oh, of course." Thor immediately agreed and began searching for clothes nearby.

Meng Ran glanced around, then said to Banner, "I'll contact Nick Fury. Please wait a moment; I don't think there are any clothes here."

With that, Meng Ran immediately contacted Nick Fury, asking him to provide Banner with suitable clothing.

A while later, dressed appropriately, Banner, Meng Ran, and Thor left and headed toward the conference room Nick Fury had mentioned.

Upon entering the room, Meng Ran saw Tony and Steve already seated, waiting for them. Nick Fury stood by the table, watching them.

Meng Ran greeted Tony first.

Tony looked at Meng Ran and smiled: "Long time no see, Mr. Ghost. Didn't expect Nick would call you too."

Hearing this, Meng Ran replied: "It's all for dealing with the threats we're about to face. I have no reason to stay out of it, right?"

Tony nodded. As Ghost had said earlier, although everyone had different ideas and philosophies, at the root, it was all for the pursuit of justice.

If it's about pursuing justice, then those you meet on this path are comrades with a common goal.

Steve, seeing Meng Ran chatting amiably with Tony, looked somewhat surprised. He had never thought that the arrogant Tony Stark could actually speak to someone politely.

After a brief chat with Tony, Meng Ran turned to Steve Rogers, the Captain America.

"Hello, I am Ghost," Meng Ran said.

Steve nodded in return: "Hello, I am—"

Before Steve could finish, Meng Ran smiled: "Captain America.

The top hero who crushed the Nazis and Hydra, America's fighting champion."

Hearing this, Steve immediately felt embarrassed.

Nick Fury, watching Meng Ran converse with Steve, thought to himself.

He had never told Ghost that Captain America was still alive.

Yet Ghost's calm reaction showed that he already knew about Captain America's survival.

Although Meng Ran had repeatedly demonstrated his unique methods of gathering intelligence to Nick Fury, he was still continually amazed.

The deeper Fury interacted with him, the more he realized Ghost's secrecy and unpredictability.

Just as Nick Fury was thinking, Natasha and Hawkeye pushed open the door and entered.

Seeing the last two members arrive, Fury refocused his attention.

He looked at the restored Barton and said solemnly: "Welcome back, Agent Barton."

Barton replied: "I guess if I could've shot an arrow into Loki's eye, I might have slept better."

Fury patted Barton's shoulder, signaling him to sit.

Then Fury scanned everyone around the table and spoke gravely: "Today, we suffered a serious failure.

Our enemy escaped right under our noses.

Many colleagues lost their lives or were injured because of this failure.

Even my most important agent, Coulson, nearly lost his life when Loki pierced his chest with the scepter.

If not for Ghost's sudden intervention, we might have lost him forever."

Fury took a blood-stained card from his pocket and threw it onto the table.

"These cards were found in his pocket.

They were his treasured collector's edition, and his dream was to have you sign them."

He looked at Steve and continued: "Almost… almost lost the chance forever."

Steve picked up one card in front of him, showing a photo from his very first performance.

At that time, he held the old shield used for performance, not the round Vibranium shield.

The small card was stained with Coulson's blood, burning like the sun and pricking Steve's eyes.

Fury continued: "Yes, we originally intended to use the Tesseract to build a weapon.

But that weapon was not meant for Earth wars—it was for defending against extraterrestrial threats.

And I didn't place my bet on that weapon in the end.

I placed my bet on a riskier project.

That project's name is… the Avengers. That's you."

Fury paced in front of the table while speaking, looking at Tony: "This project was my vision, Tony. You should know.

The idea was to gather the smartest and strongest people in the world, to see if they could make a bigger impact.

When we need them most, they can unite and face enemies we cannot handle alone.

'Hero' may be a clichéd term, but without doubt, we need heroes now.

I've thought long and hard. As a team, we need honesty. Previous secrecy was my fault. Now, I've shared my thoughts fully."

Fury looked around at everyone and continued: "Now, it's up to you to tell me—what is your answer?"
