As Dr. Selvig admired the Tesseract before him, Tony Stark was flying toward the rooftop of Stark Tower in his armor.
"Sir, I've shut down the Arc Reactor supplying power to Stark Tower," J.A.R.V.I.S. reported from inside the suit.
"But since the Tesseract is already generating energy, shutting down the Arc Reactor will have no effect," J.A.R.V.I.S. continued.
In an instant, Tony landed on the rooftop.
He looked at Dr. Selvig by the instruments and said loudly, "Shut it down, Doctor."
Selvig glanced at the flying Tony and replied, somewhat agitated, "It's impossible… it won't stop! It's going to show us a whole new universe!"
"Alright, looks like I'll have to do it myself," Tony said, raising his hands.
With a charging hum, his repulsors fired two brilliant beams at the Tesseract and its surrounding equipment.
The beams hit, but the results were not what Tony expected.
As the repulsors neared the instruments and Tesseract, a circular blue energy shield suddenly materialized around them.
The beams were reflected back by the shield.
The blue energy shimmered, absorbing the energy and then releasing a shockwave outward.
The shockwave knocked Professor Selvig to the ground and even pushed Tony back several feet in mid-air.
"This is pure energy… it can't be penetrated," J.A.R.V.I.S. warned Tony.
"Yeah, I noticed that," Tony replied.
At that moment, a figure below caught Tony's attention.
Loki, who had recently escaped the Helicarrier, stood on the terrace outside Tony and Pepper's office, holding his scepter.
"Execute Plan B," Tony said to J.A.R.V.I.S. and flew down toward him.
"Sir, Mark VII is not yet ready for combat," J.A.R.V.I.S. reminded him.
"Never mind that, we're out of time," Tony replied.
He landed on a circular mechanical platform and proceeded along the path leading into the office.
As he walked, his armor was systematically dismantled by robotic arms along the way.
By the time he entered the office, he was wearing only his regular clothes beneath the armor.
Loki watched him and casually entered the office as well.
"You're going to beg me to show mercy, aren't you?" Loki said, scepter in hand, advancing toward Tony.
Tony, standing on the nearby steps, responded, "Actually… I'm here to threaten you."
Loki chuckled, "Then at least you should be in armor."
Tony raised an eyebrow while descending the stairs. "True, but armor isn't that useful right now."
"And you're holding that flashy scepter," Loki added.
"Want a drink?" Tony picked up a bottle from the bar and asked casually.
"Delaying won't save your life," Loki said, stepping closer.
"No, no, no, not delaying… it's a threat," Tony replied.
"You really don't want a drink? Then I'll have it myself," he added.
Loki observed Tony's strange behavior, a little confused but intrigued.
The more nonsensical it seemed, the more it disrupted his thought process.
A clever mind like Loki's would continuously analyze the situation. Hesitation could disrupt or delay his plan.
Loki turned his attention to the sky outside. "No matter what you think, my army is about to descend on Earth."
"You've already lost. What's there to fear?" Tony replied, pouring himself a drink.
"The Avengers… and the Hexagon Alliance," he said, addressing Loki with a casual tone.
"That's what we call ourselves—two teams. The world's mightiest heroes," Tony continued.
Loki smirked sarcastically. "I've seen the so-called Avengers. Impressive."
"And the Hexagon Alliance? Probably the same type of joke."
Tony smiled, acknowledging the taunt. Taking a sip, he continued counting his forces:
"Your brother, the blond powerhouse.A superhero, a living legend.A green giant with a temper. And a pair of elite assassins."
Loki's expression darkened.
Tony didn't stop:
"This is the Avengers… and the Hexagon Alliance.A ghostly, mysterious fighter who can take down the green giant.A so-called friendly neighborhood Spider, with strength rivaling the Hulk. And several others with mysterious powers."
"Now tell me… with such a powerful and secretive team, what chance do you have?"
Tony only had partial intel on the Hexagon Alliance—mostly Ghost and Spider-Man—since other members were low-profile and their info tightly guarded.
After detailing Earth's defenses, Tony's tone turned teasing: "And you… the poor guy planning to invade Earth and tick off all of them."
Loki smiled faintly. "That's the plan."
"A terrible plan, honestly," Tony said bluntly."You'll never sit on the throne.Your plan has no chance of success.Sure, your army may come, and we might be temporarily overwhelmed. But we will never surrender. We'll hunt you down… and drag you to hell."
Tony drained his glass, eyes icy as he stared at Loki.
