Chapter 110 - The Chitauri Attack

Loki's expression darkened as he heard Tony's words.

He slowly stepped toward Tony Stark and said in a low, menacing voice:"If you turn against your friends…"

"At that point, they probably won't have time to bother me," Tony replied.

Tony's nerves spiked as Loki approached. Unarmored, he had virtually no means to fight.

Loki raised his scepter, aiming its tip at Stark's chest, and lightly tapped.

A surge of blue energy emerged from the scepter, accompanied by a crisp "ding!" as the tip touched the arc reactor embedded in Tony's chest.

The blue energy radiated from the gem at the scepter's tip and seemed to flow into Tony's chest.

Yet, when the gem's energy entered the arc reactor, the expected effect didn't happen.

Tony remained completely unaffected.

Relieved, Tony exhaled quietly—he had feared Loki's mysterious mind-control powers.

If not for needing to stall and buy time for the others to arrive, he wouldn't have risked facing Loki head-on.

Seeing Tony unaffected, Loki's confident smile froze.

Frowning, he refused to believe it and tried again with the scepter.

The result was the same: Tony did not react, and the scepter's energy had no effect.

The scepter's energy seemed to vanish into thin air the moment it struck Tony's chest.

"This is unusual… I've never failed with this trick before," Loki murmured, frowning in self-doubt.

He had never encountered this situation. Previously, when he had first arrived on Earth, his mind-control powers had been extremely effective against S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

It was how he had successfully manipulated Barton; without Barton's assistance aboard the Helicarrier, he could never have so easily broken through S.H.I.E.L.D.'s defenses and executed his plan.

"Even the best have off days. No need to blame yourself," Tony said, watching Loki's self-doubt, offering what he considered a kind-hearted "comfort."

"Who hasn't had one—" Before Tony could finish, an enraged Loki grabbed his neck and threw him aside.

"How dare a mere human mock a god?" Loki spat.

"Since you are of no use to me, you might as well die," he continued, raising the scepter toward Tony, his eyes cold and intent on teaching this insolent human a lesson.

Just like he had with that agent, he planned to show no mercy.

"JARVIS, now!" Tony shouted, rolling to dodge Loki's sudden strike.

The scepter smashed the office floor, leaving spider-web-like cracks across the surface.

Seeing that the attack missed, Loki withdrew the scepter and prepared to strike again.

Suddenly, a whooshing sound came from behind him. Instinctively, Loki ducked to avoid an incoming object.

When he looked up again, Tony Stark, who had been rolling on the floor moments ago, was now fully armored and standing before him.

Immediately after donning his suit, Tony raised his hand, preparing to fire an energy blast at Loki.

But before the blast could charge, Loki shot a blue energy beam from his scepter, knocking Tony back.

The attack shattered the office windows and sent Tony flying.

Although flung, Tony's armor stabilized him midair, and he quickly accelerated back toward Loki.

He fired another repulsor blast at Loki, pinning him against the office wall.

At that moment, the Stark Tower shook violently. A blue beam of energy shot from the rooftop straight into the sky.

Sensing the anomaly, Tony turned from Loki, flying out the window to look upward.

Above, the blue beam transmitted energy, forming a small black hole at its tip.

As energy intensified, the black hole grew larger and larger.

In moments, what had been a tiny black hole expanded to the size of half a football field.

From the darkness, pairs of blue eyes glowed like stars in the night sky.

The Chitauri army, swarming like locusts, had been waiting behind the spatial gate.

As soon as the portal opened, they poured out, indiscriminately firing on the city below.

Seeing the Chitauri descending, Tony immediately launched missiles from his suit at the portal's mouth.

In a flash of fire, many Chitauri soldiers were obliterated.

Though effective, with countless Chitauri pouring out, the attack barely made a dent.

The suit's missiles had limits, but the Chitauri seemed endless, continuously emerging in ever-increasing numbers.

Once all missiles were expended, Tony began firing repulsor blasts at the Chitauri one by one.

Though a single blast could destroy a soldier, this method was barely scratching the surface.

Meanwhile, the Chitauri diving from above pushed Tony back toward the ground.

Large numbers of Chitauri swarmed the streets, indiscriminately shooting civilians and targeting buildings.

Amidst the fire, explosions, and screams, chaos erupted.

Nearby, police cars arrived, sirens blaring. Officers disembarked, shouting instructions and evacuating civilians.

Panicked people began moving toward the subway and underground shelters under police guidance.

Some officers focused on evacuation, while others opened fire on the Chitauri with their weapons.
