She turned to the source of the voice and saw a young man standing at the entrance. His sharp gaze swept over her as he slowly stepped closer.
Adrian stopped in front of her. "Are you okay now? I saved you from the assassins. If you've recovered, you should leave."
The girl's eyes filled with fear. She suddenly dropped to her knees. "Please… let me stay! Out there, I'm not safe. I can do anything—just don't send me away."
Adrian narrowed his eyes, deep in thought. Finally, he spoke coldly. "Fine. You can stay—but on one condition. You must not touch anything in this place."
She quickly nodded. "I understand."
"What's your name?" Adrian asked.
"I'm Selena, from the Rael family," she replied softly.
Adrian's brow furrowed. "Rael family? I think I've heard of them… Why were the assassins chasing you?"
Selena lowered her head. "They were after me," she whispered, refusing to explain further.
The next morning, while tidying the small hut, Selena's hands froze. Her eyes widened in shock—she had spotted a strange ancient scroll lying on the table.
Adrian instantly noticed. His expression darkened as he snatched it from her trembling hands. "I told you not to touch anything here," he said, voice cold as steel.
Selena's heart pounded. "Where did you get that scroll?"
"That's none of your business," Adrian replied flatly.
Her eyes flickered with determination. "Do you remember when you asked why the assassins were after me?"
Adrian's gaze sharpened.
