Chapter 15 - Cooperation and Symbiote

"When you see Norman Osborn, don't worry about his attitude."

Jameson nodded in agreement and instructed, "You need to understand, it's Osborn who needs the Daily Bugle, not the Daily Bugle who needs Osborn."

"What do you mean?"

Anton looked puzzled.

He had a vague understanding that Norman Osborn's invitation might not be for him, but for the old man.

However, the old man had entrusted him with this meeting.

"Go in."

They arrived at the top floor, outside Norman Osborn's office.

Jameson stopped and smiled, "Go in. The rest is up to you. Remember, you represent the Jameson Family now."

"Understood."

Anton's expression was complex. He then straightened his collar and knocked on the door.

"Come in."

Norman Osborn's voice came from inside the office.

Anton pushed the door open and entered.

Seeing him, Norman showed a hint of surprise.

"If I remember correctly, your name is Anton, right?"

He chuckled, "It's a surprise, that old curmudgeon Jameson actually handed the paper over to you. I thought he'd cling to power until the day he died… I imagine he's quite pleased with you."

"Thank you," Anton replied with a slight nod, sizing up Norman Osborn. Cutting the pleasantries, he got straight to the point, "The old man didn't tell me what to say. But I believe the purpose of our meeting today concerns the Life Foundation. Am I right, Mr. Osborn?"

"Indeed."

Norman gestured for him to sit. "The Life Foundation is a common enemy. From what I understand, you were the one who orchestrated the recent scandal surrounding them… I must admit, you did a fine job, reminiscent of Jameson in his prime."

"The old man?"

Anton's eyes flickered. "It seems he took down more big companies back then than I have."

"Certainly. I admired him. I was quite sorry to see him retire."

Norman Osborn spoke sincerely.

Anton didn't know if it was true or false, but as a young man, he preferred to get straight to the point instead of wasting time on pleasantries.

He took the initiative and asked, "I wonder what Mr. Osborn wants to do by looking for me today?"

"Cooperation."

Norman was blunt. "I found The Daily Bugle, of course, for cooperation."

"It seems Osborn Industries is very interested in the Life Foundation."

Anton showed an expression of understanding.

Norman said meaningfully, "After all, our cooperation is based on the Life Foundation's inevitable downfall."

"Although Osborn Industries is a weapons manufacturer, we are also at the forefront of the world in biological genetics. In other words, we are also a renowned pharmaceutical company," Norman said. "The Life Foundation is one of our rivals in this field. The pharmaceutical patents they hold are exactly the kind of supplement Osborn Industries desires most."

"Bringing down the Life Foundation and having Osborn Industries take over is indeed a significant advantage," Anton inquired. "But what benefit will this bring to The Daily Bugle?"

"Shares."

Norman Osborn built Osborn Industries into the powerhouse it is today. He understood that "wanting the horse to run without letting it eat grass" was the most common flaw in corporate development, so he was always generous.

"As long as The Daily Bugle cooperates with Osborn's successful acquisition of the Life Foundation, I can transfer five percent of the Life Foundation's shares to the Jameson Family afterward."

Speaking of business, Norman revealed an air of confidence, and said calmly, "I believe this is enough to express my sincerity."

"Then, a pleasant partnership."

Anton was quite decisive.

Five percent of the Life Foundation's shares. It sounds like a paltry sum, but considering the Life Foundation's size, it represents an astonishing amount of wealth.

Norman Osborn was indeed generous.

As for why Osborn Industries would cooperate with The Daily Bugle, it was likely because they were eyeing The Daily Bugle's ability to guide public opinion in this game.

Without The Daily Bugle, Osborn Industries wouldn't even know how to begin acquiring the Life Foundation.

This was definitely not a goal that could be achieved simply by having money.

The existence of The Daily Bugle was equivalent to compensating for Osborn Industries' shortcomings in public opinion.

As an indispensable part of the plan, this was the reason why Norman Osborn was willing to bleed so much.

Leaving Norman Osborn's office, Anton thought about what Norman had just said to him, that his actions had the style of Jonah Jameson back in the day. His expression suddenly became strange.

He suddenly began to wonder how the Jameson Family's wealth had actually come about?

Could it be that the old man back then built his billions by exploiting, extorting, and freeloading off of The Daily Bugle?

San Francisco.

Inside the Research Base, the Symbiote Research Center.

"You're really letting me go?"

Eddie stared at the woman named Dora Skirth in disbelief. He couldn't believe his good fortune.

"It's not that I'm letting you go. You broke free yourself and knocked me out to escape."

Dora corrected Eddie's statement.

"Understood, understood!"

Eddie nodded eagerly, "Don't worry, I definitely won't expose you."

"There are some things you need to know before you leave."

Dora's expression turned serious.

This made Eddie realize something, and his face changed as well. He said in a low voice, "Go on."

Dora suddenly asked, "Do you know why the Life Foundation, which is clearly a pharmaceutical company, suddenly built rockets and launched a space program?"

"Because of overpopulation and climate change, Drake wanted to get ahead in the future." Eddie thought for a moment, recalling Drake's statements in those interviews. "Could it be fake?"

"No, it's all true."

Dora said, "Drake sent a spaceship to search for habitable planets, but on its return, it accidentally discovered a comet."

"Comet?"

Eddie was puzzled. "What does this have to do with a comet?"

"The ship's onboard computer showed life signs of thousands of organisms on the comet!" Dora said in a low voice. "They brought back some samples."

Eddie widened his eyes. "Wait, are you saying aliens?"

"You could say that."

Dora nodded. "However, we call them Symbiotes. They can't survive independently in our environment; they must find a host, just like parasites in the ordinary sense."

"So these experiments I've seen these past few days…"

Eddie gasped.

"Yes, Drake believes that the fusion of humans and Symbiotes will be the key to our survival in space in the future."

Dora said, her expression indescribable, and slowly continued, "And, these experiments were not recorded in the trial reports. He's simply forcing the match. Once it fails, the host will die, which is what you call harming life."

"He's a madman!"

Eddie was stunned.

He originally thought Drake was conducting illegal human experiments in secret for the purpose of researching new drugs.

This could still be said to be for profit.

He never expected that Drake was actually trying to combine humans and aliens! This seemed to have nothing to do with profit!

It was unacceptable.
