"Bullseye wasn't released? Have Bullseye take care of him!"
Kingpin coldly instructed, "Also, send a legal letter to The Daily Bugle. I don't want any more reports about me circulating online. Tell other media companies not to stir things up, and have them speak for us. Do you understand?"
Wesley nodded. "I've already given the order. Those media companies are smart; they won't make things difficult for us."
He paused. "As for The Daily Bugle, I'll let them know Kingpin's power."
"Don't disappoint me again, Wesley."
Kingpin gave Wesley a deep look. The latter felt a chill run down his spine, his back drenched in cold sweat. He lowered his head, not daring to meet his boss's gaze.
Ring, ring, ring!
Suddenly, the ringtone of Kingpin's private phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, Kingpin frowned slightly. He pressed the answer button. A few seconds later, his expression changed again, and his eyes practically burned with real flames.
Wesley knew things were bad when he saw the look on Kingpin's face.
This was a level of fury beyond anything he'd witnessed before.
New York was about to be turned upside down!
At The Daily Bugle, Anton and Eddie were excitedly refreshing the online comments about Kingpin.
The public's opinion was overwhelmingly positive.
This was partly due to The Daily Bugle's established credibility over the years.
People trusted The Daily Bugle.
In the current climate of public opinion, Kingpin's true nature had been exposed. He could no longer hide behind the facade of a false businessman and philanthropist.
For Anton and the others, this was just the first step in taking down Kingpin.
The next step was to find concrete evidence of Kingpin's crimes, and then send him to prison, hopefully for good.
It was a similar situation to dealing with the Life Foundation, but not entirely the same.
The Life Foundation had brought their demise upon themselves. Kingpin, on the other hand, was incredibly clever and cunning; he wouldn't make such a careless mistake.
Therefore, dealing with Kingpin was a much greater challenge.
"Ben has already gone to verify his suspicions," Eddie suddenly said. "Once we have the results, we can immediately announce Kingpin's crimes and brand him a criminal. Then, the walls will close in, and no matter how powerful he is, he won't be able to maintain his freedom."
The Ben he was referring to was the colleague he'd mentioned last night, Ben Urich, a journalist with a passion for exposing criminals.
Ben Urich knew how deep Kingpin's reach was, and he was happy to cooperate with The Daily Bugle. Especially since there was someone like Eddie at The Daily Bugle, someone he knew well.
"Don't worry, you won't be disappointed."
Things were progressing incredibly smoothly.
Anton was quite satisfied, and he affirmed, "There's no doubt that Kingpin is the murderer of his father."
"Why are you so sure?" Eddie asked, surprised.
"Because a naturally evil guy like Kingpin, anything is possible, even when he was just a teenager," Anton replied with a meaningful tone.
Of course, that was a lie. The truth was, he had watched this part in his previous life.
In his previous life, Daredevil had both movies and a television series.
Kingpin was a major villain in them.
Furthermore, Kingpin often appeared in other movies and TV series – after all, in the original comic settings, he was the kingpin of the underworld in New York and even the entire United States, and had provoked superheroes like the Punisher, Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the Fantastic Four.
From this perspective, it was not surprising that Kingpin appeared in any version of a superhero story.
The problem was that each time Kingpin appeared, the setting was different due to the different versions.
Of course, after Ben Urich appeared and, through Eddie's mouth, told him that Kingpin's father might not have died in a street fight but at the hands of Kingpin, Anton was certain which version this was.
There was no mistake.
In this world, Kingpin was most likely a patricide.
The reason was that his father was abusing his mother. Unable to bear it any longer, Kingpin killed his father.
Naturally, his mother favored her son. She colluded with him to cover everything up, announcing to the outside world that Kingpin's father had died in a street fight.
For Hell's Kitchen, people died in street fights every day.
The living in Hell's Kitchen never cared about the dead.
The police wouldn't care about the dead of Hell's Kitchen either.
It was a perfect excuse.
To verify the truth, Ben Urich tracked down Kingpin's mother to a private Nursing Home in the suburbs of New York.
Ben Urich was certain he could get answers from Kingpin's mother.
...
Outside New York, in a private Nursing Home.
Ben Urich walked out of the Nursing Home, clearly excited, having gotten the answer he'd hoped for.
However, the only regret was that Kingpin's mother was suffering from some form of dementia and rarely had lucid moments.
If not for that, Ben Urich wouldn't have been able to find out anything at all.
After all, as Kingpin's mother, Ben Urich didn't expect her to appear as a witness in court.
The words of an old woman like her wouldn't be accepted in court.
Even so, cracks had already appeared in Kingpin's seemingly invincible armor.
"This news is very important!"
Ben Urich pulled out his phone, intending to immediately tell Eddie that his guess had been confirmed, but then he saw a black car pull up in front of the Nursing Home.
An unexpected person appeared there.
Kingpin!
Ben Urich's eyes widened.
Kingpin seemed to have locked onto his position, slowly walking towards him, the overwhelming killing intent seemingly solidified, making it difficult for him to breathe.
This was the aura of the underworld's emperor.
"Ben Urich..."
Kingpin's face was contorted with anger, devoid of any smile, only rage, constantly swelling within him.
Obviously, Ben Urich's actions had touched a nerve with Kingpin.
Ben Urich's body stiffened, feeling immobilized by Kingpin's imposing aura, as if he were about to be beaten.
Swoosh!
A red blur flew in.
Kingpin swiftly dodged, clenching his fist the size of a sand pot, and clashed with the red figure.
"Daredevil!"
Kingpin looked at the familiar figure in front of him, slightly surprised. He sneered, "I didn't expect to see you in broad daylight. It seems you're really going all out to deal with me."
"Kingpin, your identity has been exposed. Do you still have the audacity to attack innocent people?"
Matt, transformed into Daredevil, used his enhanced hearing to pinpoint Kingpin's location. Then, he instructed Ben Urich behind him, "Get out of here, quickly."
"Hmm."
Seeing this, Ben Urich, who had heard much about Daredevil, of course knew that this guy was here to deal with Kingpin. According to the mysterious words Eddie had said to him last night, he was definitely an ally, so he turned and ran.
At this moment, Kingpin beckoned, and the thugs behind him immediately chased after him.
To Kingpin's surprise, Daredevil didn't move, but still stared at him, seemingly not caring about Ben Urich's life.
Kingpin didn't care about this, gripped his cane tightly, his face icy, and his huge body, like a giant mountain, crashed towards Matt, who had transformed into Daredevil.
"Daredevil, you can't escape this time."
Matt pulled out his nunchucks, and the two gifted individuals, with outstanding combat abilities, reaching the limits of human potential, began to fight.
Not far from them, Ben Urich, who had just run out a few steps, was quickly caught up by Kingpin's thugs, blocked in the alley, and there was no way to escape.
Just when Ben Urich thought he was cornered, a group of men in black suits, with cold expressions, appeared in the stairwells on both sides and opened fire on the thugs chasing him without hesitation.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Ben Urich was stunned, seeing the corpses in the pool of blood in front of him, and inexplicably thought of what Eddie had said to him last night.
"Cooperate with us, and you won't be disappointed."
Eddie said, "We have a personnel configuration you can't even imagine. It can be said to be God's plan. Kingpin is finished!"
"Is this God's plan?"
Ben Urich murmured to himself.
On the other side, at The Daily Bugle, Anton received the news.
"As expected, Kingpin has discovered Ben's actions, and he's already arrived at the Nursing Home."
Anton finished reading the report. Seeing Eddie's worry, he laughed, "Don't worry. Daredevil and the High Table are guarding Ben; he won't be in trouble. You should be thinking about how we'll deal with the killer Kingpin sent to The Daily Bugle to take us out."
"Leave it to me."
Eddie nodded, a sneer on his face. "It's been a few days since I transformed. It's time to let New York know the name Venom."
"Oh?"
Venom's voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
Venom grumbled, "Can I finally eat some bad guys? What you told me about New York wasn't the same. You said there were bad guys everywhere."
Three chapters today, partly because of New Year's Day, and partly because of some bad news.
My editor, Y, told me my recent performance hasn't been good. Although I'm on the recommendation list this week, the follow-up reads haven't changed much. If the points don't increase next week, it'll probably be the last chance. That's just how it is!
I'm actually quite grateful to Y. They've been very responsible, encouraging me since I was first put on the trial recommendation list. It's my own fault for not seizing the opportunity; even with the recommendation, I haven't gained traction.
Following reads, it's not just about the readers. It also depends on the work itself. I know my own abilities are limited, and this book is a bit slow-paced. But I still feel a little unwilling to give up!
